Rising Sun – a Sharp FX messaging device appears on AT&T
Starting July 25th, AT&T will be offering the Sharp FX quick messaging phone for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate. The specs might pale in comparison with what is available in Japan from the company, but the Sharp FX has sleek looks, and sports a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 2MP camera with video capabilities, and a music player. For the asking price above you have to bind yourself with AT&T for the next two years, and add a $20 messaging and/or data plan on top.

Sharp made some inroads in the US by manufacturing the Sidekick handsets (which the Sharp FX totally looks like), as well as the infamous Microsoft Kin phones. Here Sharp has slapped its brand directly on the FX, but what would a Japanese-made phone be without TV support? Fret not, as the Sharp FX gives you access to AT&T's Mobile TV service for the humble $9.99 a month.

The only Sidekick this resembles is the Sidekick Slide...this is much closer to the Pantech Quickfire that they offered. It looks much better though.

Why is the screen so small? There is soooo much room to make it soooo much larger.

I know right? I guess a phone has to be expensive and a smartphone in order to have a large screen. I guess its okay because at least they didnt try the social networking fail and make you pay the data plan. IMO, touch screens should be at least 3.5 these days. And not just smartphones.

Sharp creates yet another ugly design...should hire diff. engineers b/c between this phone and KIN One/Two, this is strike two for Sharp's idea of a phone.

It makes the kin two look like a winner and that's saying something haha. I saw an unboxing of this phone on youtube from mobileburn. Very slow and lagged like crazy, even tho it has basic features, it couldn't even handle that. The internet browser makes phones from 2006 laugh. Its a very weak basic browser that can't handle html and its web speeds are pathetic. He did like the keyboard tho, so if you don't care at all about using the internet and just want to text, i suppose its decent but come on......join 2010, other basic feature phones have html web browsers.
