Report shows why Nokia made the right choice by going with Windows Phone
0. phoneArena 14 Apr 2013, 10:45 posted on
A recent report shows that for various reasons, Nokia has apparently made the right choice to go with Windows Phone than Android; some of the reasons include the idea that Nokia has helped set up a third platform that helps keep both iOS and Android in check, and by selecting Windows Phone the manufacturer receives advertising support from Microsoft...

but still nokia is not getting the spotlight it deserve for their phones with windows os. if they need to be more in the game they need to stay with windows but also do andriod phones one or two phones.

When was only primitive phones Nokia market share 55%
Nokia Featured phone market share 62%
Nokia symbian market share (when Symbain was dominant and all other big manufacturers were part in it) 70%
Now, Nokia Windows Phone market share 80%
I adore Nokia. But, please let's stop fooling ourselves. Nokia would have been a dominant in Android, if it had adopted it.
people are buying WP because they love Nokia.
The same had to happened with Android.
How many Nokia Purveiw Nexus would Nokia buy??
Poor sales or + 100 million ?
Please stop it Elop !!

You sir, are the ONLY Nokia lover who has a clear vision on this company everyone else is doing nothing less thentrying to reflect attention from a problem.
This article has nothing to do witht Samsung/htc/sony..etc it's about Nokia (Android vs WP); with Nokia rich history in hardware, they would had battle Samsuung for the #1 spot (30% of 750 million is a lot), but instead they are left in last place ( 80% of 1.5 million isn't much) looking up at everyone else (sales number).

Please, for everyone who says that Nokia would fail in Android and justify this with the failure of HTC, Sony, Motorola and LG.
Nokia is not like those at all. Nokia was the only dominant in Phone's world for along 14 years, and in every platform they took apart in.
The success of Samsung mostly came from the absence of Nokia in Android OS.
Just watch this ,,, Samsung could not even take a breath in WP market share and now leaving WP because it sees that there is no chance to compete in issue where Nokia exist in.
Please be reasonable.. I'm really sad when I see Nokia had to win Millions of dollars that could extremely develop this legendary company.

Samsung has its name backing up its phones. If they decided to make a WP Galaxy with same specs as the s4 it would outsell Nokia by a huge amount.
They won't though, Samsung is anti windows 8.
59. sbw44 (Posts: 198; Member since: 04 Dec 2012)
And where exactly will samsung beat Nokia in a WP Galaxy?
Nokia makes better:
Even their PureMotion HD Clear Black Displays are better!
Also if you want specs Nokia could easily bring out a device with a quad core cpu, 2gb ram and 1080p screens!
87. jcpwn2004 (Posts: 314; Member since: 18 Jan 2012)
Little bit of bias there.....
Nokia makes better:
Camera's --- Sorry people agree s4 camera is better
Hardware Designs ----- Opinion, i think the 920 is too bulky but better build quality/design
Durability ----- I'll give you that one
Maps ----- Sorry google maps is better
Reception ------ I'll give you that one although I don't really know
Even their PureMotion HD Clear Black Displays are better! ----- Maybe at making darker blacks, but overall s4 & s3 screen are better.
s4 has a lot better software features and android is way ahead of windows phone right now.
Nokia had nothing to lose and everything to gain by adopting android.

yeah right sbw44, waiting for Catwalk maybe catwalk will bring 1080p, quad core cpu, and 2gb ram.......!!!
61. sbw44 (Posts: 198; Member since: 04 Dec 2012)
Also if samsung is anti WP why did they make stuff like the Ativ,Omnia's and numerous tablets????
63. MobileJunkieJr (Posts: 46; Member since: 15 Mar 2013)
There's ignorance and arrogance in what you wrote. It would be wrong to say Samsung would outsell everything because of it's name...that's just blind following.
Knowing the limitations is also necessary. Samsung didn't have success written all over it when everything started, it was earned. Same thing goes for every OEM. Samsung is good and it is at a good level right now. But everything has it's own time...that which no one knows.
68. KParks23 (Posts: 385; Member since: 13 Oct 2010)
@Hdshatter they did make one they made the Ativ or whatever pretty much a s3 clone running windows except windows phone users recognize a POS when they see one unlike android and the phone ain't sell worth crap so how would the s4 fair any better

By the time Android was released, Nokia was already in decline. Symbian could not be adapted very well to touchscreen phones and customer satisfaction was also declining.
Elop's greatest accomplishment was to end the numerous fiefdoms at the company that slowed the development of new models to the point that they were already obsolete when released.
If he hadn't cleaned house, Nokia would have made crappy obsolete Android phones too.

agree with you bro (johnnokia), right
Nokia was king for 14 years, and right now nokia taking rest, then king Nokia will rise again. just need time for Nokia.

Its the right path to take. As of now Samsung is riding on the glory of Android not the Handset, GS4 will be nothing if Android(Google) is not in existence. If Nokia would have joined the Android Army, then there will be no challenge at all. Okay Nokia will win but all in all GOOGLE will win. IT WILL MONOPOLIZE everything. And that will be too much problem. Having an iOS-WPOS-RIM(aka BB)-Android and other OS, people can have the chance to look for a better OS suitable for their liking. Having a competition makes the business/innovation booming. People have to think of a better(gimmick) to make their handset attractive. Its not that WP have no games, no app no nothing. Developer don't go to other OS (namely WP)because as a DEV. who only earns on ads to continue to create apps. Its difficult to earn a living. They don't want to gamble. Being a popular OS(Android and iOS) they would go to that platform rather than an upcoming (WP/FFOS/UOS/SFOS). Why will they go there? they will not earn anything. So the prefer the most popular ones. The bottom-line here is that.
"Those who have started will achieve glory for today"
"But don't forget the one behind"

No one can predict the future, however base on evidence we have now, I have to disagree; meaning, look at Amazon, Samsung, Sony or better yet look at XDA..Google is doing all the heavy lifting( OS) but everyone can put their spin on Android...
Honestly, from a business prospected, if you get a free ride on the #1 system in the world, it only make sense to take the free ride and add a little.
If Nokia would had took up Android, that would had free up Money to invest in Marketing and feature..Nokia already had the followers, who by the look up things brought Windows Phone 7, would be in hog heaven with Jellybean 4.2.2, heck I would had brought a nokia phone
83. NokiaFTW (Posts: 140; Member since: 24 Oct 2012)
I dont think that would have been the case. Think about the HTC One , which has a great design , but it won't sell quite as much as the Galaxy S4 becuase of the software feature added on by Samsung. Also, a third OS is required so that we can have our options. And Nokia is not a company who will compromise and adopt a OS which brought its downfall.
86. akki20892 (Posts: 1673; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)
and i will buy nokia lumia because i'm a nokia fan.
99. AeroPrime (Posts: 138; Member since: 21 Feb 2011)
I agree with you but the war will be over too soon when Nokia adopts android...

when you wanna fry a few fish in a small pond instead of a big pond it exactly sounds like this..
2. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
No need to show why, Nokia have already prove it to us!
Nokia do made a right choice, a very very right choice by going with WP!
Nokia doesn't need Android! Nokia is ok with WP, and I hope they will keep it up with the apps and games, and I also hope one day Nokia will success like Samsung!
Those who said "Sold my WP, almost no games and apps." don't even know what is a TRUE NOKIA MASTERPIECE!
3. lovenyc8 (Posts: 164; Member since: 13 Mar 2013)
there ok but they not were they need to be and deserve to be in market which is #1 and that can only happen if they make one or two phones of andriod.
4. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
Dude, just wait and see.........Give Nokia and WP some time, and you'll see the success!
5. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2346; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
not true, look at HTC there doing android and there not in a great position, Motorola aint either, LG arent doing much too. only samsung are seeing much return on android as the dominate it
nokia wouldnt make a dent with android as most associate android to samsung and now nokia will be associated to wp
android isnt the road to success for every damn company why do people keep begging
7. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
I agree with you!
And even though I'm using Android, but I must say that Android is not gonna rule forever! :)
9. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2346; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
exactly, android is an excellent os but no where near perfect and will fall like others for the next big thing whatever that will be.
an os with the customising levels of android and to a lesser extent symbian, optimised like wp and have the uniformity in its apps that ios has. sure it mite not happen but it shows each current os has its pro's and con's
79. MartyK (Posts: 651; Member since: 11 Apr 2012)
Nope, it will last, because Android has something NO OTHER OS has!!.."OPEN says ME".
we have ROMS, hundreds and hunderds on top of Hundreds..might need to Google "ROMS" :)
20. PhoenixWright (Posts: 99; Member since: 11 Feb 2013)
Consumers need choices. The best thing Nokia can do since it's king of the Win8 Platform (And HARDware IMO) is making one or three phones with android.
similar to what Samsung's Ativ line.
I'm sure A lot of nokia fans are gonna buy it.
and IF Android or WP market even crashes then they have some else that they've already ventured upon.
Still happy with the GNote II, but would be happier if I had a Nokia on android :D
+ The 41MP cam doesn't hurt since I don't care about size and weight hence the GNote :D
24. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2346; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
you see that all wel and good but again look at the bigger picture and not the android centric garden
HTC use both android and wp8, there struggling with both. so nokia stretching to 2 os's would be a foolish move and damage them ofcourse most on here wouldnt care all they want is everything android then they can slate nokias efforts and run back to samsung as there are many sammy brainwashed fanboys here.
i dont get why android users cant just give credit to nokia and wp8 instead of the senseless hate ( there are only a few reasonable people on here)
65. PhoenixWright (Posts: 99; Member since: 11 Feb 2013)
Not saying that Nokia should go Full on Android but just make options :D
like also getting the firefox OS/Android and still maximize their potential with WP.
I got to feel Nokia's WP and aside from the main "Blocky" interface, I liked it.
It was also lag-less or if not minimal lags.
My respect for Apple went down with iPhone 5 and Samsung with S4's Looks that are recycled, but I couldn't pick a Nokia phone because of the ecosystem of the OS and the people around me.
It's hard to be the only WP user of the bunch and not be able to share the joy or Android to WP and Vice versa.
Just needs options XD
81. MartyK (Posts: 651; Member since: 11 Apr 2012)
HTC is struggling because HTC heinous crime against Android. they are listed below:
"Thy shall NOT LOCK the bootloader"
"Thy Shall NOT put weak power parts in thy phone"
"Thy shall not have a screen below 4.5 inch"
They brought it upon themself, thus they were punish, don't feel sorry for them...hahahahah
66. user996 (Posts: 123; Member since: 25 Feb 2013)
get N9 and install android on it if you want Nokia with android
25. N6600 (Posts: 15; Member since: 17 May 2012)
And Sony isn't the brightest star either... :/
39. haseebzahid (Posts: 1720; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
u waited for android to catch up IOS for 4 years and theirs apps count to grow but in WP u want everything instantly or over a night are u dreaming or what WP8 has just arived 5 months since first WP8 phone is launched.
i didnt meantioned wp7 since it lacked the support of engines and coding platforms that developers use mostly.
53. HDShatter (Posts: 1014; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
Microsoft will be dieing in a few years, everything they have made recently is horrible. All they really have to look forward to right now is the next Xbox, but they will screw that up too. Then to shoot themselves in their other foot they will release Windows Blue and not a fixed version of windows 8.
71. haseebzahid (Posts: 1720; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
what are talking about you are not making much sense DEFINE Horrible
72. TechBizJP08 (Posts: 470; Member since: 25 Mar 2013)
are you a windows hater? why so much hate man?
91. akki20892 (Posts: 1673; Member since: 04 Feb 2013)
totally agree with u xperiaDroid, nokia made good choice and i know WP run by microsoft, and i know from microsoft, OS are always brillient, they just need time to rise, Nokia will rise again because NOKIA know come back.
101. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
Yeah, I agree with you too! Nokia will definitely rise again and make a comeback! :)
Oh, and don't forget BlackBerry! Nokia and BlackBerry will definitely rise again!
6. Shrihari (Posts: 79; Member since: 29 Jan 2013)
i only have one question here for xperiaDROID...why doesn't nokia make both android and windows phones? let it choose where is the success...and also remember if nokia comes for android then android will be a way more tough competitor for ios than ever it is/was....
10. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
They shouldn't think about Android right now, HTC make both Android and WP, but they didn't success. And if Nokia made the same choice as HTC, they will be in trouble right now, and HTC is currently in trouble with their profit right now.
22. JojoGo101 (Posts: 202; Member since: 17 Dec 2012)
They didn't succeed cause of bad marketing dummy. Wasn't cause of making both WP and Android.
28. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
Dude, can you imagine that how many HTC smartphones were made right now, how many money were wasted right now, including the sold one......
They need to throw out a lot of money for the materials, camera, the device itself. Everything needs money!
And I can't see anybody using HTC Windows Phone at my country, not one!
37. Shrihari (Posts: 79; Member since: 29 Jan 2013)
HTC fails because they never listen to their customers..for eg:
in their latest flagship htc one many wanted removeable battery and back cover+sd card expansion(not an must have requirement though)
42. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
I think that HTC is trying their best to make the HTC One more premium. But yeah, they should at least make the HTC One with SD Card expansion, like the Sony Xperia Z. :)
56. HDShatter (Posts: 1014; Member since: 17 Jan 2013)
Aluminium is not a premium metal, the HTC One is not premium, aluminium is almost as bad as plastic.
60. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
Wait, I thought HTC One have a full metal body.
75. yudi.nemesis (Posts: 934; Member since: 14 Mar 2013)
hey hdshatter please stop being stupid fanboy,
if the aluminium bad why all those genius using aluminium frame in cars, air plane and etc.
Just accept it your samsung device have the worst build quality compare to nokia and sony don't belive me just compare 3 ''plastic'' device
1. Lumia 920
2. Xperia Acro S
3. Galaxy S4 or Galaxy S3
aluminium looks and feels more premium than samsung ''plastic''
both S4 and S3 using the same polycarbonate with same hypergalzed finish so it feels and looks cheap just like S3 the only premium material on S4 is gorila glass 3
64. 14545 (Posts: 874; Member since: 22 Nov 2011)
People are more likely to forgive a non-removable battery than non removable memory. I know a few people that won't buy the DNA for this reason. I have a few spare battery packs, but you can't fix a lack of memory.
30. Kriksis (Posts: 57; Member since: 27 Aug 2012)
I believe they simply can't do that as long as Microsoft is financially supporting them...
92. -box- (Posts: 3470; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
Do you think Microsoft would give them a BILLION dollars as year if they wanted to sell Android? No, the money would be cut off. Nokia is being paid by Microsoft to be exclusive and bring attention to the platform and support from consumers, and that seems to be working.
8. Mxyzptlk (Posts: 2437; Member since: 21 Apr 2012)
Least Nokias ship isn't sinking as fast as the SS RIM. I'd take a N900 phone over the BB10 models any day.
12. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
RIM (BlackBerry) isn't sinking right now, they're improving! IMPROVING!
44. Whateverman (Posts: 3061; Member since: 17 May 2009)
Sorry dude, Blackberry is taking on water fast. They have to do something NOW to turn this around.
48. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
They are doing something NOW and that is improving!
49. Whateverman (Posts: 3061; Member since: 17 May 2009)
By putting out 2 phones, then waiting another 8 or 9 months to see what happens? That's not a very solid plan for success if you ask me. And if you look at what's happening with sales, most people agree.
51. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2346; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
but sales are in favor of those with gimmicky marketing like apple and samsung. bb will hopefully pull it back and make a proper comeback
58. Whateverman (Posts: 3061; Member since: 17 May 2009)
I hope so too. My first smartphone was a Blackberry Curve and I loved it. But BB10 isn't making much noise in the market right now. Hopefully something will change because I think the market needs Blackberry.
62. xperiaDROID (Posts: 3722; Member since: 08 Mar 2013)
We don't wish to see a manufacturer bankrupt right? You'll be sad when you see that right? :)
