Report says that new Apple iPad sales are sluggish after that strong start

0. phoneArena 08 Apr 2012, 13:54 posted on

A report from China cites Foxconn employees as saying that they are assembling a smaller number of Apple's third-generation tablet each day; one employee was quoted as saying that after producing 150 to 180 iPads per hour, the workers at the plant sometimes can't even get 5 days of work in during a week...

@thelegend Galaxy Player and Walkman Z aren't comparable to the ipad, because they're Android-runing media players with 5" or smaller screens. The ipad is a giant ipod with 9.7" screen, with different apps designed for it to be used more like a computer than a typical media player (or phone). While the ipad does (for now) dominate the tablet arena in terms of apps, Android's not far behind. The ipad's dominance came from the fact it used the same coding as the ipod/iphone but with different resolutions, making app development a relative breeze, especially if the developer had prior experience with ios devices.
Personally, I'll hold off on a new device until Windows8 comes out

For the record, I have a Galaxy S2 and an iPad 2, so I’m not a die-hard fanboy.
iPad sales are slowing down, so what, there is nothing wrong with a product settling down. Besides, the “new iPad” can be considered as an iPad 2S anyway, so for the current iPad 2 owners could wait until other iPad upgrade is released. Not every person out there can afford a new tablet every year. The iPad 3rd gen was targeted to iPad 1 users or newcomers.
The new iPad is evolutionary, everyone can see that, but that doesn’t mean the upgrade is not worthy. With the iPad you’ve got the tablet with the most powerful graphics processing in the market, even the iPad 2 today has a more capable GPU than most Android tablets. You also get a great display and finally you get more quality apps designed specifically for the iPad.
Nobody on this website "wins" with tablet sales and market share. The only ones that win are the big corporations like Apple, Samsung and their shareholders. You simply get what you consider the best buy.

i would take a galaxy5 over an ipod touch any day of the week. all the exact same arguements between an sgs and an phone4.. except without the ability to make calls.

maybe not for you.. but for the pilots which will not switch and for schools and business the retina display will come in handy, besides the ipad2 runs smooth why mess with that.

This could very well be the beginning of Apple's downward curve.
I mean, there's two more quarters before the iphone 5 is out, right?
And if Galaxy S3 delivers the promises fully, i see a MAJOR downfall in iphone 4s' sales.
Apple shareholders, time to start selling some stocks!

LOL. They didn't go all out. Like i said before the changes aren't that different from last gen. They needed to change the hardware and software to keep things fresh and new.
This is what you get for not going all the way. It will go down further in the coming months.

I'm not surprised, every iPad has been the same thing just slightly different changes. This iPad brings 3 things, LTE, higher resolution screen (something it should of had last year) and a better graphics processor.

You can only release the same thing so many times before people get tired of it.

I'm not an apple fan at all but that screen really is a huge upgrade. I care more for the fact that it will cause android/windows tablets to start having better screens as well :)

Not surprising, all the isheep line up in hoards to buy a measley upgraded product while the rest of the world realizes that there isn't much difference and it isn't worth another 500$

why is this not normal? I mean that thing aint your 199 iPhone ya know? after 3 generations and competition slamming hard at the door its hard to maintain something, everyone knows apple wont be posting record sales for ever. just like everything mainstream there is a day....

oh come on this is surprising, apple has been on fire the past few years. They even posted record breaking sales for the first weekend. I don't think many people expected this....I'm just glad this finally happened so at least isheep can't brag about how much profit apple is making with their ridiculous profit margins anymore.

well you count they they have really strong sales during the Holidays 2 quarters ago you must say that most average customers already bought the iPad 2 by Dec 25th all whats left is the hardcore apple fans that will buy the new iPad as soon as it comes out, and the people who knew about the new iPad, many consumers wont be able to buy a new iPad until they get into paying all they Holiday Expenses.

To be fair, the iphone is only $200 when it's on contract. If apple sold iphoneswithout contracts at $650 (as they do with ipads), they'd sell a heck of a lot fewer. Similarly, if they sold ipads on contract for $200-400, they might sell more

yes, more than likely something will come round to replace it.

do you still listen to tapes? play on your amigo or atari2600 Hows your Palm or Windows CE device?

how are ANY of those once monster companies doing? They messed up and fell behind the pack or dissapeared. Apple and google are not immune to that. Google is more immune than apple due to their open source nature and willingness to take risks on features, but there is no garuntee they will be around for a long time. Apple has NEVER been ahead until recently, and they are already fallen behind. You iOS nuts dont know your history apparently.

What company did that tablet chart come from? Comscore, Gartner, etc? Is that really accurate? If so....wow....

Some ppl said Android phones would never pass the iPhone in marketshare, when that happened they then said Android tablets will never pass the iPad in marketshare...

Maybe its time to stop betting against Android...and just accept the fact that choice is a good thing? Choice helped the iPhone and iPad be so popular, they were another choice for phones and tablets.

The Other column always seems so small on all these charts.....phones and tablets...

Also...If its compared to how Apple usually does...their sluggish sales could be Motorola sales being up from last quarter. In other words....what they consider sluggish for Apple would be better sales for another company.
