According to a report, the entry-level model of the Apple iPad mini will cost $329, slightly more than 10% above the $299 that an analyst had earlier in the day predicted the tablet would sell for; the report says that there will be 12 different variations of the device...

Nexus 7 might be cheaper but it isn't better than this. Asus has used cheap plastic to make this tablet. The screen may be high for the price but isn't vibrant and uses inexpensive screen technology. Apple is using the A6 which has already beaten tegra.

it's using an a5x..... and i find the nexus 7 screen and tablet itself good for the price

Ok but even that has better gpu performance than any arm processor. And ios needs nothing more than 1 GHZ dual core.

so the ipad (3rd gen) got a score of 764 on geekbench. the htc one x and the samsung galaxy s3 got scores of 1500+. so based on geekbench. apple chips have nothing on android flagships

But their still have a fast and smooth UI. Haha got you again.
20. mrbtree98 (Posts: 50; Member since: 04 Aug 2012)
because ios is a glorified app drawer. so of course its faster.

JB is as smooth as iOs..
You are a typical Apple fanboy(they only have one thing to say in life-iOs is smooth smooth and smooth and nothing else)

Well there are many in which ios is superior.

Name 10...Oh wait, lets make this interesting, name all the ways in which iOS is better, and for every reason you give, I'll give you 2 reasons why Android is better.

Better browser. Safari is so far behind Chrome it can't even see it in the distance.
The so store and music store aren't part of iOS.
Gaming support is equal.
I can't speak to social network integration, as I don't use any.
More refined and beautiful UI? If you had said stale, you'd have a point, but ICS and JB UI are both head, shoulders and torso above iOS.
No force closes that you are told about. But, that's exactly what you're getting every time you suddenly return to the home screen unexpectedly. And it happens in iOS just as often as in Android. (In fact, the last time it was objectively measured, it happened "significantly not often" in iOS)

More secure? Android pars with iOS. Better social network integration? Android and WP had it for years. Better gaming support? Par with Android. Better music store? There's Google Music. Better movie store? does iOS have a movie store? More refined and beautiful UI? more like lack of customization when compared to Android. Much better browser? A browser that doesn't support flash isn't better than Android. No force closes? iOS is even more prone to force closes!, I've never had an app that force closes on my android phone.

-Better social network integration. That was a good one.
-Better music store. Nice try. I can buy iTunes music and use it on Android. The Google Play music store runs some epic sales. $4 albums (good ones, I might add) aren't at all uncommon.
-More refined UI. As long as you like monotony, sure.
-Better browser. How about choice in browsers?
-No force closes. I LOL'd. My iPad manages to crash a sudoku app. That's embarrassing. My Droid 2 rarely, if ever, force closes anything.
On gaming and movies, you got me. Security problems on Android are overblown.
And then on Android, you enjoy choice. Choice of apps, app stores, devices, ROMs, etc.

better manufacturer support, better for updates, customer service, resell value, logo recognition, smooth operation I can give you more but wil have a hard time dealing with this ones
48. Zero0 (Posts: 592; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
-Manufacturer support. Fine, but those Android users who want updates can generally get them from the community.
-Customer service. Fine, but the same company who is so willing to give you a repair is the one who tells you that purple pictures are "normal behavior."
-Resell value. I don't care. I use phones for 2 years. I don't expect them to have any value by the time they're out of date. Besides, Android devices generally retail for lower prices. Therefore, lower resale values are understandable.
-Logo recognition. You're a funny guy.
-Smooth operation. How many times do you need to be told this? Project Butter is a real thing.

I don't think it'll be using A5x chip as it have a way powerful GPU which isn't required by this tablet.
Most probably it would have A5 or any other new custom Chip..

Or maybe they might go with the one in the iphone 5.
29. kartik4u98 (Posts: 511; Member since: 19 May 2012)
Maybe..but what will be exclusive then?..
People will think that same chip is used ip5($600) as well as iPad mini($200-$350)..
30. tedkord (Posts: 11925; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Because it does so little. It's just an app launcher, of course it doesn't need a lot of horsepower. My wife's Honda fit only needs 4 cylinders and a 10 gallon tank.

It will not even use the A5X. That chip was used to push the extremely high resolution of the iPad 3. If the resolution of the mini is only 1024x768 Apple will put in a A5 or the A6. But if they use the A6 they just made the mini faster than the iPad 3. So it only makes sense they use the iPad 2 specs and just shrink down the body and add a lighting port.
59. theoak (Posts: 324; Member since: 16 Nov 2011)
I doubt it will use the A5X. Why not the A6? The A6 has way better performance and battery life. The mini will only be an iPad 2 resolution also, so the A6 will NOT have a ga-zillion more pixels to push like the A5X has to. A6 makes more sense to me.

it isnt about better components mate! tomorrow someone will come out with a diamond display tech and charge 5000 US dollars for it! so does that mean its better?
The trick for a company is to get the optimum parts at an optimum price so that the product is a success. 7 inch tab category isnt the category for luxury or premium device but its whats best at that price and at US $329 Apple would have lost the 7 inch wars. Nexus 7 may have used cheaper materials but that doesn't mean the materials are really cheap and not good enough. I think the specs of Nexus 7 are awesome at the price!
Nexus 7 materials may be inferior compared to mini ipad but no one's goona give 330 dollars for a 7 incher, they'd rather go with a 10 inch tab..after all tabs are basically display devices.

Apple will sell the ipad mini for $400 just to verify that millions of irobots will buy anything from Apple at any price. irobots will stick their middle finger in their ass first and then they'll go to queue outside the Apple store just to show the world that their stupidity doen't have limits.
