Chetan Sharma's report shows that the volume of texts made in the third quarter declined as did revenue related to texting; while this has been a trend seen in western countries, this is the first time in the states that this has occurred...

Data is the new hype right now, hence the reason for the price spike in data cost. In five years there will be something new and data prices will level off just like the cost of texting did.

Why pay $30+ a month to send a few kilobytes/megabytes of SMS text when you can use a small fraction of the data plan you already pay $30+ for to send a message to someone. They need to just combine them and consider SMS characters as data or they will lose money.
