Report: A6 chip in Apple iPhone 5 is a custom design; 1GB of RAM is aboard

0. phoneArena 16 Sep 2012, 00:55 posted on

While Apple really didn't break down the details of the A6 SoC in the new Apple iPhone 5, a report on Saturday says that the A6 is the creation of Apple's in-house design team; additionally, the report says that the new Apple iPhone 5 has 1GB of RAM, double the amount in the Apple iPhone 4S...

Lumia 920 > iPhone 5.

Yeah probably you can buy that fat plastic box with has gay colors like dark red and bright yellow. The black iPhone is the sexiest phone I have ever seen. Disclaimer- am not an iFan but I cannot hide what I like.

Because it breaks the rumors record...
We set it at least 8mm thin and Apple made it
Whereas sgs3 is set around 7mm++ but failed to deliver...
Apple never upset fanboys :)

I actually don't like how PA has been covering the iP5 with multiple articles which some hate so much.
But this is a different thing...it's the chip we're talking about...PA does that for Android chips as well.
O well, haters will hate, lovers will love...but you, as your name suggests, and me will learn about everything whether we are a fan of any particular device or not.
I'm pretty sure some haters here will learn something from this article somehow and tell people about the A6 chip.

yea i come to see what its all about but then i find and feel bias opinions in some things that i read which causes me to speak on things sometimes........if i really thought the iphone was worth spending 200 300 or 400 dollars on contract for and sum 600 700 800 dollars off contract or even 900 in some cases then i wouldnt have nothing to say about apple........but when buildin a car or any project and making all the externals of it gorgeous so that it appears nice and appealin to the eye then leaving the motor out of it or fixing it to where it will only last you a month or so is not a finished product! am i sayin the iphone doesnt work? no im not im sayin that if im going to pay that much money for a phone then it better have everything there and also things that you're not even aware of! so that one day when im bored and jus tinkerin with my phone and wondering what its capable of i will indeed find that i got what i paid for AND MORE!! which is only proper at that price range........apple is tellin people that as long as it looks pretty and peforms basically then that is all you need, when really its a hell of alot of money that people are paying for a phone when they could jus get a simply performing phone that works jus as fine but for a lower price! its jus not right and the sad thing about it is people accept that! they think its ok because everyone else has it too! so it must be ok..........until they get educated about other phones such as androids flagship phones.......and they realize their is more than jus one option......and there are also BETTER options for LESS money as well.........sorry man but knowing these things fuels the fire for us android fans and seeing the world unconsciously buy somthing over and over and think its the best that the mobile world has to offer is really mind blowing and at times VERY dissapointing..

Well we all know that Apple does not jump on heavy specs so fast. This is one thing i like about them aside from their annoying selfish lawsuits. Their specs get upgraded every year with the OS being heavily optimized for it.

iOS can crank more out of a 1GB ram because, there's nothing in it.

Why don't you guys name this site IphoneArena.com, but i won't blame because you have to run your site by the money paid to you by apple for falsely promoting their phone and claiming it's powered by an A15 architecture Processor while it's the the same A9

Not bad, but someone in here posted something crazy about real world performance. Ahem, real world performance is using Apple's A6 chip and running Android, and using one of the SnapDragons/Omaps/Exynos chips and running iOS. This is real world performance, obviously A6 can run iOS I'm pretty sure it was built with the chips limits in mind.

I can only imagine what iOS would run like on S4 Pro, probably tear circles around the A6 chip and just beat out the graphics chip with the Adreno 320. Ah well, whatever.

So.. like.. I was right and Anandtech was wrong. They initially thought it was an A15.
Told ya it was a modified exynos 4212 with PowerVR.

Dayum I am one sexy sexy tech lovin biatch. Come on Darac, let me hear it. :)

You want me to say you're sexy?

Man, no one here knows what chip this is, apart that it's manufactured by Samsung on 32nm process, and that it's neither A9 neither A15.
You should take your own advice about not jumping with conclusions.

For what it's worth, I actually wish you turning out right with this one..for a change :p

Also for what it's worth, I love Exynos and am really close to jumping ships from Sony to Samsung, one of the reasons being the Exynos quad core solution.

yes, call me sexy and slap my ass. lol. no please, dont actually do that.

Look, first they thought it was an "A15", now they wan to say "hybrid". All that is hype and hope.. It is an A9. Period. A series and Exynos have always been very close sister chips with a little CPU modification and different GPUs. This is not any different.

Once people deflate their oversized "new iphone" hysteria and get down to tearing these things apart, I'll be proven right. Apple is not one to push tech boundaries so they can keep costs down. The chip is one of the most expensive parts of the phone as it is, and being on the cutting edge comes with a price premium. There is zero benefit to Apple doing that. They get nothing more out of an exynos class chip than they do out of an A15 since the OS doesnt use it. However, they do care about the GPU so they can keep pushing gaming boundaries. Save money on the CPU, spend it on the GPU. The also do not take chances on new tech for their flagship.
Hence, this is a tested and true modified exynos 4212 with a different GPU.

Seems to be a fair article. I use Note but find Apple as quite a good experience and am impressed by the way they do things. Look how they custom designed the chip and look how they get good output from dual core chips. But i am still going for Note2.

guys why would they make it quadcore when it all needs is dualcore it's like buying a car with maximum speed 500kph when at the end of the day your only allowed to drive maximum 110kph

Agreed. The iphone does not do enough to warrant having a quad core processor.

((Still you can't compare the amount of RAM on the Apple iPhone with the amount on an Android model. Because of iOS, the tech titan has always been able to get better performance from a lower amount of RAM than an Android phone can.))
ios pause the TECH TITAN this scentence make laugh hard
so unprofesional phonearena the article looks like it's wriiten by a teenage apple fanboy

If you were to put the processor from an iphone 5 into a Note or SGS3 - the results would be disastrous.

Hahahahaha........... At moment I'm feeling really bad for all the ifans who were claiming that A6 chip is cortex A15 and not A9.............. So now accept this fact that Apple as stopped innovating after 2007, now they are just 'Renovating'....... So this yr. you saw taller screen, next yr. you all will see wider screen, and after that you will see quad core processor and 1.5 GB RAM, and after that HD screen, and maybe also 13MP camera........ :)

Nothing to be proud of there bub..having old tired technology. It isn't any different on the Apple websites guaranteed!!! don't get me wrong I like their ipods but that's about it. I have a Samsung galaxy s3 and it destroys the new iPhone in terms of technology...2 gigs of ram,, 720p hd 4.8 inch screen, must I continue??
I of course have the s3 on Verizon and have unlimited data still so that certainly doesn't hurt, but we're comparing apples to oranges here

The iP5 is the phone the iP4S should have been... last year. And the thing will still rake in the money hand over fist for Apple.

My coworker has the iP4S. I was showing her some things my Maxx can do since she asked a technical question when her iPhone proved to be not so intuitive as Apple would have you believe. She's already pre-ordered the iPhone 5 thinking that because it's the new iPhone, that this issue will be addressed.
I have tried time and again to explain to her that the limitation is imposed by Apple itself, and unless they change their policies on how people can use their own handset, or she jailbreaks her phone, no new iPhone is going to do for her what she wants.
But... alas, she's staunchly in the, "shut up and take my money," school of thought.

Come on Apple, if ur going to keep the same old boring design, at least upgrade the insides with some serious ram 1 gig is old news now. Android/Samsung has taken over..it can't last forever right ;)

I think they show bias in his article because the whole Apple IOS can run on less ram comment. They give apple an excuse for having less ram. While knocking Android even though there is only one device that has 2 gig of memory on Android.

The comment makes it sound like android needs 2 gigs of memory when it does not.
and that shows bias towards Apple.
