Report: 52% of Windows Phone users rely on Bing searches, the rest is "quickly switching" to Google
According to market research firm Kantar Worldpanel, only 52% of Windows Phone users relied on Bing for their mobile searches in he fourth quarter of 2013. Reportedly, the rest of the users are “quickly switching” to Google, using either the official Google search app for WP, or in-browser search, thus “actively avoiding” Bing. That says a lot about Bing’s success as a search app for smartphones. Although we probably shouldn’t be surprised about this, since Google is comfortably leading the search engine wars on non-mobile devices.
Just like Google is offering an official search app for Windows Phone, Microsoft has a Bing app for Android, too. But this is far from being popular - for comparison, the Google Search Android app has 558,146 reviews in Google Play, while the Bing Android app only has 8,807 reviews.
We just have to ask Windows Phone users out there: is Bing not as good as Google search for you? Let us know in the comments.

Bing is pretty good BUT Google is & always will be KING. They are just the experts of "search".

The problem with windows phone is that you are so limited you can not select the browser Firefox, Chrome or Dolpine
microsoft give people choices
WP, It is completely useless when it does not work with Chromecast!!
63. Bernoulli (Posts: 1399; Member since: 01 Sep 2012)
Chromecast is so overrated, Netflix all the way, and the browser in my Lumia 1020 loads pages 20 times faster than my pathetic old samsuck galaxy note 2, plus don't forget that the windows phones from Nokia use the same data compression html5 that Asha sports, removing ads otherwise present on android phones.
67. ihavenoname (Posts: 965; Member since: 18 Aug 2013)
You know that Chromecast can show Netflix and other services, it's not rival. And rest you wrote is biased BS.
97. Bernoulli (Posts: 1399; Member since: 01 Sep 2012)
yes I do, it drew my attention when I was watching good ol' how I met your mother in a commercial, but as per usual gimmicks, I have absolutely no need for this, but that's just me though, I own a smart tv and the Nokia link app basically lets me do this; where I can actually broadcast and share my screen all over the word and I'm not limited like chromecast to be in the same wifi range.
71. PapaSmurf (Posts: 6631; Member since: 14 May 2012)
That's one biased ass comment. Then again, I've never taken your comments seriously since the've always been filled with hate and whatnot.
Chromecast can stream Netflix lol. Are you mad that WP isn't supported?
99. Bernoulli (Posts: 1399; Member since: 01 Sep 2012)
nope absolutely not, I have my own smart tv so having chromecast would be pointless, this is more for restricted devices that don't have access to DLNA servers, like iphones and the Sammy phones that demand their dongle.
110. PapaSmurf (Posts: 6631; Member since: 14 May 2012)
So then why did you buy Chromecast if you had a Smart TV? Lol either you're not intelligent or you love lying.
72. SandraB (banned) (Posts: 75; Member since: 07 Aug 2013)
Opps this man is mad the phone is not supporting chromecast.
98. Bernoulli (Posts: 1399; Member since: 01 Sep 2012)
nah I'm not simple minded like many of you, and have absolutely no need, besides Nokia Link totally trumps this gimmick piece of crap.

Nothing is better searcher than Google.
87. jroc74 (Posts: 3980; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Its amazing that on a WP device half of its users still use Google.
Maybe many users saw thru that Scroogled BS. Gives me hope consumers really are learning and not just going by whats spoon fed to them.
MS wasted a boat load of money on that campaign. Maybe they will stop now.

I have windows phone and bing is good but i used to search via google.
just when a i think about search i forget that i have bing and open google.
2. the_best (Posts: 130; Member since: 14 Oct 2012)
no bing isnt really that good.
But google search is great, so it isnt really fair to compare the two.
But then again google search and their mapping program is the only things google done right, and microsoft has tons of programs that is just stellar, so it isnt really fair to compare.

"But then again google search and their mapping program is the only things google done right,..."
Seriously? Their list of successful products is a veritable who's who of internet/productivity software. Whether it's Chrome, Drive, Earth, YouTube, Gmail, etc...
I can't even begin to comprehend what you meant.

To you Ms is everything, even if it's not good, to you it is... You are a fan off MS and WP...

To me Tech is great. Not GOD. GOD IS GREAT ENIGMA
34. Extradite (banned) (Posts: 316; Member since: 30 Dec 2013)
The world uses Google, only WP users use Bing...
And it they habmve no other options to download any other browser, cause WP is restricted. Unlike even on iOs you have the options to use thirdparty browsers. That's why Wp is not growing and previous all MS products WP platform could not make it to 5% worlwide shares, vs Android and iOs.
By the way you and Rodney are the same who does not like other platforms and brands... Ms fans
49. XperiaFanZone (Posts: 842; Member since: 21 Sep 2012)
Pot meet kettle. You also talk s**t about IPhones, just shows that you also don't like other "platforms and brands".

I have a Macbook Air and a iP5s and a Note3. So what are you talking about....?
77. XperiaFanZone (Posts: 842; Member since: 21 Sep 2012)
I'm talking about your hate for other platforms. The way you were talking about the iphone shows that you hate it. Look at your previous comments. It's also you, who's hating on other platforms.

Speak for yourself, blackberry has traditionally used Bing, nonetheless desktop and laptop computers come preset for Bing.
68. SleepingOz (Posts: 2479; Member since: 22 Oct 2011)
An almost dead company, relevent indeed!
That's because PCs and laptops run Windows, but let's be honest no one really use it.
100. Bernoulli (Posts: 1399; Member since: 01 Sep 2012)
still even laptops from samsuck still come preset for bing, and not really, blackberry is still #1 in enterprise.

well if you ever try IE 10 and 11 are fast as chrome, sure i've try
86. jroc74 (Posts: 3980; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
You shouldn't have because he also mentioned GMail and Youtube.
For older computers....Chrome is the best vs IE. And it is telling how IE over the years has taken cues from Chrome.

Bing is awesome on WP! Take it from someone who actually uses a WP device everyday... Just because 50% of people aren't used to Bing, and only think Google when it comes to search, doesn't mean that Bing on WP isn't great.. It's really not whether Bing on WP is better than Google or not, it's how well Bing is integrated into WP to make the search experience much either from a WP device.. I bet out of those 50% of people I can show them the advantages of using WP's default search engine over using the Google app, or even a pinned Google page on the starts screen.. With Android devices having Google built in, and WP devices having Bing built in, it's really not a question of which search engine is better, is more a question of how search is integrated into the OS.. These people aren't using Google because it's providing a better option on WP they are using Google because of familiarity, popularity, and/or brand loyalty, and in this case it is a bad decision.. Google is a terrific search engine, and I've used it for years, but if you are approaching search from a WP device the built in Bing search is the best way to go because of the way it's integrated into the platform, the options that Bing has natively, it's intuitive design, the very good results it gives, and its the quickest way to search on WP... Bing is great, and Google is great, but depending on the device one would be better than the other to use.. If people aren't using Bing on WP then it's because of awareness.. They don't see a Google button, so they immediately look for ways to access Google because all the average user knows is Google.. Doesn't mean that that's the best way.. Same as Samsung devices.. Most people know of Galaxy devices, and that's what the majority buys, but that doesn't mean it's the only option or the best option for everyone.. Actually, I'm not surprised it's not more like 80% of people using Google on WP devices given peoples unawareness of what their device has to offer, and unwillingness to see what new things have to offer... The only point this article proves is that humans are, well, humans, and these alleged statistics don't show us, and aren't related to, which search engine is better...
116. fireblade (Posts: 517; Member since: 27 Dec 2013)
too boring to read your comment. Google search is better in everything
117. rodneyej1 (Posts: 2873; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
My comment isn't about which search engine is better... Who cares about that..
13. the_best (Posts: 130; Member since: 14 Oct 2012)
drive and Earth = mapping, i agree these are great, but Youtube wasnt their program they bought a finished Product, and now it sucks!
Gmail? seriusly? there is tons of better email programs not to mention Outlook and Hotmail.
And chrome, yeah I see its popular i would buy windows, mac, and Linux long Before even looking at that crap.
15. ihavenoname (Posts: 965; Member since: 18 Aug 2013)
We're talking about Chrome Browser, which wins IE. Chrome OS loses to Windows 8.1
21. jellmoo (Posts: 452; Member since: 31 Oct 2011)
You... you don't know what Drive is, do you? It is productivity software.
Earth also isn't mapping.
Yes, they bought YouTube. So? It sucks? How? Because of the Google + integration?
Gmail, yes seriously. It is the industry standard. Saying "it sucks" doesn't really change that.
Chrome is both a web browser and a light OS. Pick either or for what you which to refer. As a browser it is an incredibly successful product. Also, if you are "buying" Linux, you are being shafted.
What more do you want? You don't even seem to know the products we are discussing here. You made an off the cuff remark about Google products sucking without having any understanding of what their products are. Maybe do a smidge of research before you make rather ignorant statements.
33. the_best (Posts: 130; Member since: 14 Oct 2012)
how isnt earht mapping? its a large map.
drive is a map with a gps tracker.
Yes Youtube sucks cous the google integration, i dont want google to sample all my information in a box all ready for NSA. and also ads.
Gmail looks like Hotmail did 1999 its all a mess, and the Icons dont have text on them. I dont want to Hover all the Icons for finding the right one. And its not industry standard, Outlook is, atleast in any office making Money.
yes chrome is also a browser, but i just couldnt belive thats what you meant, if you dont use EI you choose firefox who is clearly best of all the browsers.
and yes Linux is free, but i meant when buying a computer, not buying a OS. who buys an OS and not the hardware anyway?
42. jellmoo (Posts: 452; Member since: 31 Oct 2011)
Google Drive = drive.google.com
Please look at it and understand what the product is. Pretty please. Drive is productivity software. It has *nothing* to do with map or gps tracking.
You have a bunch of anecdotal preferences. Congrats, you like specific things, that's awesome. For some reason you are under the impression that your preferences are what makes a product good or bad. You also don't seem to understand the products being discussed. Please look into these products before making blanket statements.

Outlook is probably the worst thing I've ever used from Microsoft besides Windows Defender. It's complete garbage and I'm sure mostly everyone agrees.
75. papss (Posts: 3439; Member since: 03 Sep 2012)
Enterprise wise outlook is boss period... Windows defender? Agree with you
81. PapaSmurf (Posts: 6631; Member since: 14 May 2012)
My college "uses" Outlook. Guess how many people actually use it? No one, not even the professors. Everyone uses Gmail or Yahoo...
88. papss (Posts: 3439; Member since: 03 Sep 2012)
I work at an international company and we do use outlook exclusively
102. rodneyej1 (Posts: 2873; Member since: 06 Jul 2013)
What does MS do good in your book❔
I can name multiple things all of the top companies do well, and give credit where credit is due.. But, can you❔.. Go ahead, shows us you're not just nit picking on MS as usual. Tell us what MS does well.. Give us multiple examples..❔❔
111. PapaSmurf (Posts: 6631; Member since: 14 May 2012)
For starters, they did a fantastic job with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office. Everything else gets overshadowed by everyone else, especially when it comes to security software on PC's. Mac OS X is superior to Windows in almost every way.
And please I can the same about you. What does Samsung and Google do wrong that make you hate them with a passion?
Pot, meet kettle.
89. jroc74 (Posts: 3980; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Its not about looks between GMail and outlook.com. And some would say Gmail look better because its less going on.
Functionality.....Gmail beats it kinda badly.
It is odd that blocking ads on outlook.com makes the service worse where doing that on Gmail doesnt. Especially with Gmail being run by Google.
96. papss (Posts: 3439; Member since: 03 Sep 2012)
Outlook is boss for enterprise.. Gmail gets laughed at in business world. Maybe personal emails? I'll give you that because I also have a Gmail account
127. jroc74 (Posts: 3980; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Yea talking about free email. Outlook or Exchange for business is great.
