References to USB gadget support removed from Google Nexus 4 online help manual

0. phoneArena posted on 08 Dec 2012, 19:07

Google has edited the online help manual for the Google Nexus 4, removing all references to USB gadget support for mice and keyboards; previous comments about using USB to connect a mouse or keyboard have been replaced with a statement that USB does not support connecting these devices...

Why don't the just add a 64GB for $100 more so people stop complaining?

2. networkdood posted on 08 Dec 2012, 19:10 4

ummm, it has no space for microSD....

5. NickPeters posted on 08 Dec 2012, 19:27 5

What he/she ment (I guess) is that the manufacturer (in this case Google and LG) should have made it with larger amount of space inside the phone and leave it with the same politic of NOT having the option to expend memory with extra memory card nor (as it seams) external flash memory or hard drive. In the other words: that politic means CLOUD emigration and thats Google's future vision of its ecosystem.

ahhh, I see, nnaa meant that they should make one with 64GB storage...yeah, I prefer microSD - cloud storage is fine - I use a different one for each one device I own....otherwise, it can get confusing.

Yeah.
It would be much easier that way.
I'm guessing LG wants to keep a "sleek" design, so an SD card slot wouldn't satisfy that condition.

As bad as it sounds, the average consumer probably cares more about how the device looks than the feature set. In order for it to look nice, a removable back and other "moveable" parts have to be removed.

*He*
See the word "Nathan" in my user name?
It is interesting to see who catches on and who doesn't.

And yes, that's what I ment, actual storage. I think using the cloud is silly. I would never type a Word document on my phone, all the formatting would be lost.
But that's just me.

Who are you?
And who is Nathan? Lol

Some people like to have more physical control over their content.

Agree with u bro..here in my country 3g connection is so darn slow..and 4g connection is so expensive..so cloud is not really applicable for some countries with slow data connection...so much better to just expand the phone mem itself or add an sd slot rather than cloud storage...i woukd be happy to pay 100 more for an expanded mem..

16. nnaatthhaannx2 posted on 08 Dec 2012, 21:21

I guess so.
I only own one phone at a time, so and SD slot wouldn't be that useful.

24. Berzerk000 posted on 09 Dec 2012, 06:52

Because Google is trying to push cloud storage hard.

4. adelta90 posted on 08 Dec 2012, 19:16

the compromise is okay as long as we can buy it from google for the subsidized rate. For the full retail, there might be better options to consider.

If this were a Windows Phone article the headline would have read - "USB-NOT-On-The-Go!" (or something tacky like that.

To even get a quad-core unlock phone in your hands for $350 with 16 GB is considered almost like a steal. Whining about the storage capacity is asking too much IMO.

10. networkdood posted on 08 Dec 2012, 20:37 1

No reason why the NEXUS 4 does not have USB OTG support like the NEXUS 7.

11. networkdood posted on 08 Dec 2012, 20:37 1

Well, I guess I will just wait for the Nexus 5 then....lol

12. stealthd posted on 08 Dec 2012, 20:37 4

It's funny how there were so many people complaining about the iPhone having no removeable battery, no memory card options, and (with the 4/4S) front and back glass. Now there's a Nexus with all those "features", plus no USB OTG, and yet there's no uproar. Fanboys are funny like that I guess.

13. wendygarett (limited) 3 days ago posted on 08 Dec 2012, 21:15 2

You think fanboy is funny, but we are happy to be fanboy :)

Oh well, different personality tho lol

17. stealthd posted on 08 Dec 2012, 22:04 2

No one really chooses to be a fanboy, it's more like something people do because they don't know any better. Ignorance is bliss.

19. rdeleonp posted on 08 Dec 2012, 23:03 2

Well, considering the 16GB Nexus 4 costs $349.00 no strings attached and the unlocked 16GB iPhone costs $649.00 (almost twice as much), I'd guess there's not much complaining to be made, for the few compromises...

21. networkdood posted on 08 Dec 2012, 23:36

no uproar as APPLE patented it...lol...jk....just like the iphones, I will avoid this phone, although for 299/349 it is a great deal to get this phone for no contract. I have a Droid Razr and still hate the fact that the battery does not come out, but it has a microSD slot, and that is more important to me.

20. gravestone posted on 08 Dec 2012, 23:21 1

Major deal breaker, switching my upgrade plan back to Galaxy Nexus.
OTG USB support is crucial for me

22. RapidCat posted on 08 Dec 2012, 23:58 1 1

Lol lg the worse nexus maker

23. Klamba92 posted on 09 Dec 2012, 02:28 1

I have to say this has made me reconsider purchasing the Nexus 4 now as 16gb is to small without any USB otg support. At the moment the cloud is not viable. I would probably start to use the cloud if you can store files other than documents and pictures, such as videos and apps. Also about the non removable batteries I would be annoyed except for the fact many manufactures like HTC, Sony, LG and Motorola have been making phones without removable batteries for some time now. Another reason why I choose Samsung because they have not......... yet!
