RIM frozen out of ICE contract, losing order for 17K handsets to Apple iPhone
0. phoneArena posted on 23 Oct 2012, 01:11
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, also known as ICE, has frozen RIM out of a contract renewal, deciding instead to arm its 17,000 workers with an Apple iPhone in a deal worth $2.1 million dollars; its another example of BlackBerry losing business it once owned...

This is the beginning of the end for RIM in the U.S. govt. They (U.S. govt.) are moving on.
RIM is a dead man walking.

By the time BBQ, I mean BB10 out,
RIM already lost it's cool factor.
right now in Indonesia a lot of BB user were those who want cheap messaging, like old lady who don't know technology (tante girang) or a elementry student drop out (pembokat).

Odd that the government would switch to a phone a) known for malware and tracking fiascos b) has a horrid record for being a PHONE, c) is made in china, just like Huawei and ZTEs d) is relatively delicate e) was passed over by the MILITARY for rugged Motorolas which are used in COMBAT

BB had a customer that feel ashame of using it...
I bet 50% of their 80 million user ashame of using it.

do you know why you got a thumb down?
because what you said it's not true
it's not 50% of their 80 million user.....
it's 90% of their 80 million user were ashame of using it.
(and that's if there's really 80 million BB user, I bet RIM cheat with number)

If the O-man wins re-election, expect him to be off of BB by this time next year. If Mittens wins, I doubt he will be bothered with carrying a smartphone (W didn't; in fact, he didn't even use the Internets). Those are things that his servants carry for him.

As I post several time in phone arena...
The problem with RIM / BB OS 10 is not about if the OS 10 cool enough or not..
but it's TIME and the ability for RIM to have innovation with Google android and Apple iOS speed. look at how long RIM create an API for them to create a calender in BB10. It's a sign that RIM were surprised that it's a herculian task to create a smartphone OS (compared to their simple/dumb OS of BB OS 7).
RIM were not an OS company, and can't compete with Google and Apple. By the time they release their OS 10, it's already absolute.
BB is dead, and it would help RIM a lot if their CEO admit that... Bad OS and no Ecosystem.... If RIM admit that and create an Android based BB, the company will survive.

RIM is like a some local TV star who think it can be a superstar.
Correction to your post...
BB 7 IS ALREADY ABSOLUTE as it's now
that's why developer and corporate were refusing to invest in BB OS6 / BB OS7 platform.
and there's no guarantee that IF they use BB10, it would still be around after 1 year, and that's mean it would be safer to use iOS and Android. That's why SMART fortune 500 company already move on from BB to iOS and Android.

When will the bad news end for them? Either push for better handsets or os, or just get ready to be put out of their misery

The bad news end after the FAT lady sing....
I mean that german dude that rule RIM say "we're going chapter 11"

Show me a Apple product with FIPS certification, then the government can purchase it. Until than, they can't be purchased or deployed to run on a government network.
22. Droid_X_Doug posted on 23 Oct 2012, 10:54 0 2
If ICE is buying 17,000 iP5s, you can bet that Apple got their phone FIPS certified. Apple has been working with the Feds for a year and change, so the foundation for the acquisition (including FIPS certification) is in place.

First of all, phonearena is a few days late on this story. Other sites posted this last week. Second, it's funny how so many of you want RIM to just die. How will them dying help your lives? Lol! I'll tell you this, I'm typing this comment on my 9930 and I love the device. It is perfect for communication. There are a lot of people in the world that feel the same way I do. RIM isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so stop the doom and gloom or at least spread it to Moto, HTC, Nokia, etc. because none of them are selling phones either! /r
Proud BlackBerry user!

That's because there is nothing innovative about BB.
It's just a phone with basic function.... call and messaging...
It's a laughing stuff...
23. Droid_X_Doug posted on 23 Oct 2012, 11:00 2 2
Your 9930 is 2 year old technology. Even the encryption protocol on the device is out-dated. The Feds don't want to be crawling along on obsolete dumbphones. If RIM goes out of business (likely in the next 5 years), the Feds don't want to be stuck and have to bail out RIM.
Just like corporations, the Feds have realized RIM is not a viable option and are moving on.

I will give you 3 thumb ups if possible cos there is just too much madness. I really don't know how blackberry affects certain ignorant folks lives on here if you hate RIM that much, go to WATERLOO CANADA were the HQ is located and burn it down yourself so you be satisfied..RIM is not going anywhere there are still in the race and the new OS will make a clear difference.. Competition is very important that's the major reason AT&T plot to buyout T-mobile wasn't approved cos it be a disaster been the only GSM network in USA.. Am proud using ma bb am a business man and careless about unhappy birds..

but, unfortunately, BB is not gonna bring competition...
and also the era of competition is already change now...
Now is the era of open source, where the competition is on another level.

They will more likely be using iMessage, e-mail and the phone functions. Might also be using the camera function for photo evidence of what people were trying to smuggle into the U.S.

They can also take embarrassingly purple pictures of anyone who tries to sneak in and post the photos on a special iCaptured blog.
