0. phoneArena 17 Dec 2012, 22:33 posted on

Frank Boulben, RIM’s CMO, says that he joined the company to take part in the greatest comeback in tech history and in an interview he adds that when the BlackBerry 10 models launch, BlackBerry App World will have 70,000 apps available, about one-tenth of what it is available in the Apple App Store and in the Google Play Store...

If they have a stable operating system... with better integration, as well as the normal most common apps that i use alot and a half decent camera vs the blur fest lens they had in the past....i might consider this

DoA. iOS and windows phone are going down soon too. The sooner it's android only, the better.

Android is good and will stat as a strong OS. but there is a large number of customer base who will prefer WP or iOS. They won't die.

WP is, as you can obviously see, keeps getting better. And real FAST. Apps selection is also growing. With next gen Lumias, WP has a bright future.

iOS is currently a fail, but I guess Apple will manage to come up with something next year. They know that if they won't do this, they are gonna die quick.

Yes, windows phone is getting better, but the consumer demand isn't there. Apple is past their prime by a longshot. But at least if they both fail, it's a win for the consumer getting more choice from android. Maybe we'd see a Nokia android phone.

Future will tell. Among my friend circle and wandering around social n/w sites I see more and more people are getting interested in WP. More credit goes to Lumia line though, than the OS itself. Me and my 3 friends at least will be buying 920 as soon as it's launched in my country.

Can't predict about iOS really.. same goes for BB. But android will no doubt will be a major player always.

Enjoy your lumia :) hopefully Microsoft doesn't pull a wp8 with wp9 where the existing handsets won't be able to get the update, that'd be bad :/

so tell me how only one os is more choice ? besides skins all android phones are the same . ram hogging , lag infested , force closing , ugly , phones. not sure how this would be good for consumers .

It's quite simple. These amateur OS's fail which no consumers wants and these OEM's make kick-butt android phones bringing better choice to the consumers.

Please name every app you actually use frequently on your phone and not just apps that are "nice to have".
The average consumer uses 10 apps on their phone.

Not really know much of the BB 10, but i really hope they could success, although to me i guess in the next few year Android will still be the major player in the industry while WP will keep climbing up, but if Apple iOS still keep in this way, i may afraid they will really get outdated..

I bought a Note 11 to replace my defunct N9 and read newspapers, text. A great portable pocket tablet. My 9800 still works very well but needs replacing with a BB10 version or an Aristo. Very much looking forward to release of BB10 and strong RIM comeback.

windows phone 8 didn't have whastapp at launch either, guess what they do now. i can't see it being absent from the app catalog for too long after launch. after all its on the bbos 5 - 7 and still receives support.

remember the word "yet"!

and i mean people buy BlackBerry coz of BBM!

and the guy above me "stychill" is right! WP dont have whatsapp at launch and whatsapp is scrambling to bring its apps on WP! but a BB10 app of whatsapp wont be a problem since they could actually just port thier android app to BB10!! no re writing is needed!

RIM has some built in advantages:

-excellent name recognition.
-still respected among the casual cell phone user.
-a still fairly large, extremely loyal fan base that will make demand for the first BB10's strong.
-a still strong revenue stream.

If they can toss in a strong app selection at the start, and 70,000 with a good list of top apps would qualify, they will be fine. But I still worry for the future only because they will still need to do all the software and all the hardware themselves. If in a year or so they are having trouble pushing new devices and software upgrades, they will be right back in the same boat they were in with BB06/07. The other major players will be passing them by in innovation and improvements.

RIM doesn't just need to change their OS and hardware, they need to change their entire culture and business strategy.

you do know that most essensial apps will be available on BB10 right? even games like dead trigger coz DT was available on the Playbook...and most playbook apps are ported for BB10! thats why 70,000 apps will be available at launch!

The software looks a hell of a lot better than apple's offering...all they have is apps and build quality. The l series device in my opinion has on par build quality to the iphone, if BB10 does have the backing of major developers as they say. they will make a comeback and bring the fight to android, i've already written off ios.

Android
IOS
Windows Phone 8
Blackberry 7

BB10 can take windows phone 8 and ios, the only real fight is with android since it has the superior os to the others on the list. come this time next year we will see what kind of impact BB10 really has, i do hope it lives up to its potential.

android was never superior...it was just superior coz of the support of the big companys like samsung and others....

technecally, symbian can do the very same thing that android can! it is good at persolization!! but symbian isnt supported like android is thats why it was killed!

i honestly don't know much about symbian all i remember from nokia was the crap that was on the n-gage, but symbian is dead and this is about what is and what can be. Like it or not android is the top player in the market for multiple reasons. Honestly i don't know if BB10 can gain more market share than android. there are a lot of factors to consider and price will be a major one. when the entire BB10 portfolio launches Rim will really be ready to compete.
