RIM BlackBerry Storm sold 500,000 units in the first month?

According to analysts, half a million Storms were sold by Verizon in the first month despite tepid reviews and bad publicity...

once again IPHONEarena would compare a manufacturers FIRST attempt at touch screen device to Apple second attempt at a touh screen phone, but honstly, apple has been makig touch screen I Pods as well, so this comparison is just as ridiculous as the lame Apple jock riding morons who write the articles here The Storm is the best touch screen Smartphone on the market right now. If you cant see the reasons ( and there ar so many ) that this is true then as usual you guys are brain washed apple zomies.

haha lol good one godfather. i think the storm is a great phone. google maps is awsome on it too.

If you read information about the ORIGINAL iPhone you'll see it sold just about half as many as the 3G which is still over 1 million units and DOUBLE what the Storm sold. Not to mention, it was the FIRST cellphone made by apple. Just to be fair though, the statistic of 3G iphones sold actually represents numbers worldwide, their sales stateside were actually roughly the same as their 2G predecessor. People who think all phonearena does is talk about the iPhone obviously don't read any other sites, because they ALL report the same news as you see here. Or are you iPhone haters raging on all those sites too?.....

1. iPhone fanboys outnumber iphone haters. 2. PhoneArena is horribly, horribly biased towards Apple and the iPhone. They must be paid by Apple in some way, that's the only way to explain their stance on the iPhone. They will literally work the iPhone into anything they can, and everyday (for at least the last year) I've checked the site, there's always some kind of iPhone news, which amazes me (not a compliment.) 3. An iPhone fanboy should NEVER bitch about iPhone haters. You fanboys are what makes these blogs absolute crap 90% of the time. It's like trying to argue with a 10 year old over X-Box Live. You bring up a good point, they retaliate with a flurry of profanity that doesn't and will never go together. 4. iPhone's not a smartphone. It was marketed as a phone, then one day, out of the blue, they market as a smartphone. Right...that's why business customers will always come back to BB, HTC, or Palm. Oh, and unless they're running Apple Mac's (90% of business don't.), iPhone's are very impractical for business customers. 5. The iPhone has come out with a 3g (a 2nd try if you will) and there's even MORE problems with it. And you're going to dog on the Storm? Most of the things the 2g iPhone couldn't do (Bluetooth Stereo, Pic Messaging, etc) weren't corrected in the 3g release. Really? Zero room to talk guys, really, zero room. 6. I have a Storm and it's the best phone I've ever had. I've had many BB's, many Treo's (envious of the Pre), and so far, it's the best one. Love it. Suck it iPhone fanboys. 7. The Godfather has awesome comments. I've seen many of them, had to comment on this one. Kudos dude.

No matter how much you complain, 1 in every 4 cellphone users have an iPhone and the iPhone alone sold more than all the windows mobile phones put together last quarter. Facts are facts and you can't change them so please stop. And I'm always hearing about balckberry has released version blah blah blah for the storm. How many articles of firmware is going to be released?!?! But why isn't any one else complaining? I don't know.
13. The Spartan (Posts: 98; Member since: 27 Jan 2009)
Ok... 1. You're wrong. WM sold 5 million, Apple sold 4 million, thanks for trying but no. (http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Windows-Mobile-triumphant-over-Apple-during-Q4-article-a_3852.h tml) 2. You've proven my point. My post had absolutely nothing to do with that. Once again, trying to argue with an iPhone fanboy is like fighting with a 10 yr old on Xbox live. "WE SOLD MORE PHONES THAN YOU, STFU!" 3. I'll stop the day jackasses like you stop blogging. Thanks. :)

@ E.N. 1 in 4 SMARTphone users, so please inform yourself properly. 1 in 4 CELLphone users would be a much more impressive number. Facts are facts, please get yours straight before spewing out garbage. So please stop.

Dear Spartan, My comment was in regards to how The Godfathers comment, NOT how awesome the iPhone is. He pointed out they were comparing the Storm to the 2nd iPhone when this is the first Storm. I pointed out even the original iPhone outsold the Storm in the first 30 days. So what you're really trying to say in your presentation is that noone can correct someone about iPhone FACTS. Kudos to you for hating on someone trying to correct someone with SIMPLE FACTS. There was NOTHING personal or opinionated about my statement PERIOD. All factual. p.s. you give the Spartans a bad name (that's also a fact)
20. icarus (Posts: 24; Member since: 12 Dec 2008)
Yes, the I-phone is a decent phone, i would even say a very good phone. but lets be honest, 1 in 4 people believe the Hype Machine. Apple could release a box filled with dog crap and they would pour so much advertising in it, and make such a awesome box for it that 1 in 4 people would buy it and claim it was the best dog crap ever, it healed the sick, gave them winning lottery numbers and was awesome for playing Super monkey Ball. i'd like to see the survey of how many of those 1 in 4 people actually love their I-God as much as the fan boys on this site there has only been 1 official firmware released for the storm, anyone that takes a risk on a in progress, unofficial leaked upgrade deserves what they get how many updates has the 3G had now? CONSIDERABLY more than the Storm

*Hova*, Spartan could not be more right about you, its like arguing with a 10 year old on Xboxlive. No matter how wrong you are you will still cry and scream you couldnt possibly be wrong.
26. *HOVA* (Posts: 564; Member since: 11 Dec 2008)
WOW Legion, you sound like some old scratched vinyl repeating the same thing over and over. You are so clever I don't know what to do with myself. Pretty sure I'm far from a fanboy considering this is the first Apple product I've ever owned. Just because I can present facts to people opposing their statements doesn't mean you have to think I'm never wrong. It's all factual so it actually ISN'T wrong. I just present it to idiots like you who can't seem to get a clue.
27. Legion (Posts: 397; Member since: 12 Dec 2008)
Sure, whatever you say. Im done giving you the attention you so obviously and desperately need. I come here for phone information and discussion, not to bicker with attention starved trolls such as yourself.
28. *HOVA* (Posts: 564; Member since: 11 Dec 2008)
Information and discussion is exactly what I provided so maybe you can post relative things, or maybe you just can't keep it to valid things? Whatever the case I always post information but don't hesitate to back myself up when people like you make statements about it. Don't start it and it won't continue, pretty obvious at this point.
29. Legion (Posts: 397; Member since: 12 Dec 2008)
No, wrong again. It was a conversation about the quality of the storm vs. the iphone. You jump in with a bunch of irrelavent sales numbers like it means something or like anyone cares. To quote spartan 2.
32. *HOVA* (Posts: 564; Member since: 11 Dec 2008)
I could be mistaken but this ENTIRE THREAD is about the SALES of the phone which is EXACTLY the point I brought up. If you're trying to say I was off-topic the only way you can even CONCEIVE this is the fact that I'm not staying on topic with these ludicrous comments about fanboys which had NOTHING to do with what I brought up. The thread is about sales, iPhone was brought up in the topic, someone said it's about sales vs. the 3G wha wha that's not fair, I said even the original outsold it PERIOD. That was the only thing I brought up was a fact that even if it wasn't the 3G they compared it too the original still outsold it. THEN everyone else chimes in with theiry 2 cents about fanboys which was retarded because I didn't even say a SINGLE WORD about the quality of the phone or whether I even liked it all. I also have to laugh how you guys are such fanboys yourself that you bring up fanboys of the iPhone when there isn't even a single comment made about the phone othen then simple facts. When I refer to "people like you" this is exactly what I'm talking about. Fanboys OTHER then those who like the iPhone who constantly nag about fanboys who are not even posting. If people would learn to stick to the topic and read posts for their validity this wouldn't happen. Pretty sure noone can post the word iPhone without all you haters spewing absurd comments for no reason.
33. The Spartan (Posts: 98; Member since: 27 Jan 2009)
Wow is right...well, for starters, I wasn't really referring to you, but, eh, it kind of fits doesn't it? You say "I only state facts, blah blah blah," yet, um...what the in the hell was this? - "People who think all phonearena does is talk about the iPhone obviously don't read any other sites, because they ALL report the same news as you see here. Or are you iPhone haters raging on all those sites too?" ??????????????? Well? You say you're on topic. I say you went off topic of what the previous post was about, therefore, like all the ones around you, you should create your own post and not respond, correct? Oh, and if it was, then yeah, you went way off topic. And iPhone haters? iPhone haters raging on other sites like this one? Look man, some people who don't have the iPhone, who may not like the iPhone or may like it and just think there's better phones out there don't appreciate it when sites who claim to be fair and balanced find some way to squeeze Apple and iPhone into stories where they have nothing to do with them. Hence what the Godfather was trying to say, yeah, you went off topic. By the way, RIM sold 500k. Rock on. If you're come off like "ZOMG GUYS, THE IPHONE SOLD SOOOOOO MUCH MORE, STFU iPHONE HATERZ!!!" then yeah dude, I'm gonna call you an imbecile Apple fanboy. Don't like it? Don't sound like one, simple. Oh, and by the way, on those facts, can you back that up please? Because...it looks like according to dailywireless.org, Apple in the 3rd QUARTER, not first month sold only 233,000 activated iPhones (2g). Wait, what? Yeah. Facts huh? Mhm. Riiiiight. Oh, and I hope Jay-Z beats the snot out of you for using the name HOVA. Talk about giving something a bad name...

I'm actually out of school which apparently you two aren't. Actually I think I just heard the bell ring so I'm sure you'll be runnin inside. There isn't anything you can say that's gonna stop what I do so I guess this is just how it's gonna be. Can't remember where I pulled the stat for sales but I'm sure I'll run accross it again. Come to think of it that might have been the stats the first month after the price drop but ah well. All I was trying to do was clear up the original post about it being compared to the 3G iPhone. Yea I did rag on iPhone haters because you're all idiots. I'm willing to bet none of you have even used the phone for more then 5 minutes to even have a clue about it. It just gets old hearing the same thing in EVERY thread, oh Iphonearena, oh i hate the iphone, oh fanboys, oh fruit lovers, you guys need to get a life and post stuff people wanna hear about. Have you ever read a single comment I've left about hating any phone or carrier? No, cause I don't really care. Normally I wouldn't invest ANY time in this because it takes me back to high school and it's retarded, BUT, hey I'm at work on a computer all day so why not.
3. The Doc (Posts: 122; Member since: 11 Dec 2008)
I agree somewhat with Godfather. Unfortunately, Phonearena has made it clear that their opinions are impartial to the iPhone. The comparison between the two phones is inaccurate simply because the Storm, like Godfather said, would need to be compared to the quality and success of the first generation iPhone. Overall, Phonearena has done a better job covering a wider area of information. But again, any info given about the success on the iPhone will raise red flags on how exaggerated the info will be. GO VZW!

The Storm is a great device for it being RIMs first touchscreen device. I just remember pre iPhone launch that my BB rep told us that they would never launch a touch screen device. The thing I do know now is that I carry an iPhone and Storm. If my employer came to me and said I had to give up one of the devices...I would have to give them the Storm with no hessitation. I am just one guy. Both phones have their flaws but overall the user experience is much more gratifying using the iPhone. The majority of people who hate the iPhone have never actually used it. If you have used it for a week and come away thinking that is the worst device ever, then fair enough. The bottom line is that had not the iPhone made the impact that it did, there would be no Storm... Boy, some of you guys memory is very short.
22. icarus (Posts: 24; Member since: 12 Dec 2008)
i don't think the Problem is the I-phone. I've played with it alot and i do enjoy everything about it except the reception. The problem is the Fanboys that worship anything apple puts out without questtion
7. YouLostTheGame (Posts: 441; Member since: 11 Dec 2008)
I think another thing to point out is that if you hadn't owned a smartphone before the Storm, or were not into cellphones in general, let alone smartphones, the likely hood of hearing or even knowing about RIM would be minimal to that of Apple. RIM produces smartphones, that's it. Whereas Apple was already WELL KNOWN for their products including computers, and most importantly, the ipod, which has single-handedly revolutionized the way people listen to music, and continues to do so with the continued innovation of that product. So with gobs and gobs of people already knowing and understanding Apple's products and general biz direction, the iphone was a relatively easy product to sell. Both with people's knowledge and respect of Apple products and ipod, the iphone was both an idea and product that people were already thirsting for; and the fact that Apple wrapped it up in a nice, neat little package, and released it with a whirlwind of hype was the final nail in the coffin for the product's success. So I think that one can't really compare the sales of the Storm to the Iphone in that respect. I've read it reported that the VAST majority of Storm users are smartphone and RIM newbies which I think says a lot, but we have to realize that there wasn't (at least from what I saw) a lot of commercialization regarding the device. It almost seemed like it was released relatively quietly in regards to how the Iphone was. I think the numbers put up by the Storm are EXTREMELY respectable seeing as how RIM as a whole isn't nearly as known of a company as Apple is in terms of products. So in the end I give props for VZW and RIM for getting the numbers they have so far!

@ YouLostTheGame: I would have to disagree. Many, if not most people know what a Blackberry is. Yeah, they may not know what "RIM" is, but everyone knows what a Blackberry is. RIM is known VERY well in the business world, and therefore should not have had a problem selling a majority of their Storms. See, RIM his a highly respected Worldwide Company, and has a great reputation for making great products. Though a lot of Storm Users are "reportedly" (according to what you have read) RIM or Smartphone Newbies, it still does not detract from the fact that those people were probably well aware of Blackberry's reputation. I am not arguing that comparing iPhone Sales to Storm Sales is unfair (though I do not believe so myself), I am making the valid point that RIM or Blackberry (as most people would recognize them) is well known and well respected. I would have expected to see high sales numbers of a phone like that. It is a great phone and device. I would have bought one myself, but I can't bring myself to ever switch to Verizon.
19. YouLostTheGame (Posts: 441; Member since: 11 Dec 2008)
So what I'm taking from your post is that people in genreal, NOT JUST THE BIZ COMMUNITY know and have good understanding of BBs and also a firm handle on using one on a frequent basis? See, I would disagree with that. I actually know quite a lot of people who either have no clue whatsoever as to what a BB is or have just heard the word and kind of have an understanding as to what it is. Whereas just about EVERYONE I know either owns an ipod, wants and ipod and also knows that Apple makes them. I don't think you can even begin to compare brand recognition between BB (RIM) and Apple on a general level.
31. Fanboys Suck (Posts: 609; Member since: 12 Dec 2008)
@ YouLostTheGame- Um, I'm not too sure YOU have a firm handle on what I had originally posted. You said, "So what I'm taking from your post is that people in genreal , NOT JUST THE BIZ COMMUNITY know and have good understanding of BBs and also a firm handle on using one on a frequent basis?" What you said couldn't be further from the truth about what I said. To be honest with you, I don't recall posting that people in general have a firm handle on using a Blackberry on a frequent basis. Reread what I said: "Many, if not most people know what a Blackberry is. Yeah, they may not know what "RIM" is, but everyone knows what a Blackberry is." Maybe I should qualify what I said a bit more by relating personal sales experience: Often times, when customers come into my store looking at phones, I recommend a Blackberry. They say something like, "I don't need THAT much of a phone; I just need a simple phone that can make phone calls and occasionally text message." These people (Not Corporate Business People), know that Blackberry phones have a lot of capability. Does this not credit their reputation? People are well aware of Blackberry. I will agree with you that Apple does have amazing Brand Recognition, but you are short-changing RIM for one of two reasons: 1. You actually believe RIM (Maker of Blackberry) does not have good Brand recognition OR 2. You are saying that to make the Storm look like it surpassed ANY expectation anyone had for it. You are making it sound like Apple Blows RIM out of the water... take a look athttp://www.knebel.info/iphone/ This Graph is worldwide, but look at how close this is. Again, like I said, I am not sure you have a firm handle on what I posted. The facts are there man. People know what RIM and Blackberry are.
8. YouLostTheGame (Posts: 441; Member since: 11 Dec 2008)
And actually if you head over to crackberry.com there's an article stating that VZW has released the info that to date the Storm has sold a million units, so I don't think it's too far behind the Iphone. Keep the storm going!
