An analysis of the displays on the Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S III by DisplayMate gives the edge to the recently released 4 inch screen on the iPhone; the company says that Samsung's OLED technology has yet to be refined to the same degree as LCD screens have...

That's right.

This problem of dividing with zero was evetually solved in a community, because it doesn't make any sense. AMOLED displays still have the great contrast, but now LCD tech is pretty comparable. It also has to be taken in consideration absolute brightness, where AMOLEDs are usually inferior, they just have the mathematically larger contrast because of zero value blacks.

I have Galaxy S3 is not bright display as iPhone 5 in direct sun but it is fine indoor. I hate rotten Apple CEO lawsuits to ban Galaxy S3 sale in America. Apple won lawsuits and ban sale of Samsung phones is very cruel and unfair trial in America.

Read more about "Display Myths" before digesting that "Retina display" crap which was nothing but a well managed "intentional/wilfull" lie (one o0f many from SJ) for marketing only. Perhaps a good term just for patenting and nothing more ...

It's such a lie that every other manufacturer is rushing to claim their new flagship phones as having over 300ppi. It's also such a lie that a PhD with his own display calibration company says its the best display on a smartphone to date. They must all be brainwashed and iSheep! Samsung included!

Didn;t some consultant w/o a website got paid 70000 bucks juist for testimony on behalf of apple? Money taks and research data can be manipulated and skewed as always just like Ancel keys did decades ago :)

Did he compare it to any other display in the market, I don't see it anywhere so how is it the best when it is only compare to 1 other phone. Retina is not a display tech. It is just high pixel density. The iPad 3 retina display is way less then 300 ppi

It's also a 9.7" screen that you hold further from your face.

Watch "Star Trek" (the new one) on a RAZR, you will not have ANY complaints about the color accuracy or the penta pixel display...

Star Trek isn't very colorful. The 4.3" Razr display, which is penTile AMOLED, is also known as one of the worst AMOLED displays around, for color reproduction and quality in general. It's super gaudy and dim.

When that phone actually comes out, SURE. But then the iPhone 6 will be out with who knows what.

LOL - how's this a news? gs3 display doesn't even compare to HOX SLCD2 - horrible white, low brightness, exaggerated cartoonish colors, and pentile straight from the museum. It'd be more interesting to see a comparison between retina and slcd2/lumia display.

You're an idiot with no basis for your comment. While AMOLED is definitely not up to the level of IPS, IPS is definitely nearing the limits of technological advancements. I wonder what will happen with the iPhone in a few years when AMOLED exceeds IPS in the above categories...

Really all this is nit picking for geeks. The top smartphones have more than adequate displays that'll keep 99% of the population happy. I'm perfectly happy with the display on my S3. I love the size of it too.

In the 1st sentence it says edge, kinda like how the iPhones edge shows light leaks
This is just LOLness right here, and a bit of insultment

Even though iam an ips lcd user (optimus black), I wouldn't mind having deeper black levels. And many people I know prefer oled over other form of displays mainly due to the saturation of colours. If someone manages to fuse both technologies into one (deep black levels of oled, colours and viewing angles of ips lcd), i would be really happy.

My Xperia s will do better than both of these,
Who cares about showing the phone to the a 3rd party person, I never tried to read anything on my iPhone 4S from a angle as long as I had it
Even it's brighter than the iPhone or galaxy s3 in direct sunlight .........

i can't understand how the iphone 5 could be better at showing pictures and videos with its resolution?
to me that is one of the biggest reason not to buy the phone as i watch allot of movies on mine
