Qualcomm says it won't be bringing a quad-core phone to MWC, but will be bringing something better

0. phoneArena posted on 21 Feb 2012, 18:46

Qualcomm says that the only handsets it is bringing to MWC with a quad-core Snapdragon processor will be concept models; the company says it has something better to show off in Barcelona than a quad-core Snapdragon powered phone...

I'd have to see some numbers before getting excited about this. More battery life is greatly needed but if it's only 10% or so then it doesn't seem as big an announcement. I'm glad we're moving in the right direction of getting more battery life though.

Anything helps but I expect more then 10 percent.

Maybe they've travelled to the future and found a way to engineer 10nm dual core chips :P

The batterey hog may not be the processor but the 4G technology or chip.

4. manuell3g posted on 21 Feb 2012, 19:01

Battery life n processing power which would u go for??!

5. squallz506 posted on 21 Feb 2012, 19:04

power, seeing that i magenta will not be on LTE for a long time.

Quad core or more battery life? I want a quad core phone. Plus anything running android is a battery hog

7. biophone posted on 21 Feb 2012, 19:13 8

Yes yes yes yes yes. They get it. Its about the experience and battery life is an integral part of that. People really won't notice a small amount of lag but the fact your phone only lasts 4 hours is annoying(this was my experience with the tb i realize its better now but still not good.) i would like moto to build a phone with the maxx battery and this proccesor. An lte phone with 2 days worth of battery would be great to see.

battery is more important to me... i usually prefer low end phone with long battery than high end phone with short battery.

I say that because why would you want to use those fancy features of a high end phone if you always worry about having a dead brick in the middle of the day. I don't like carrying extra batteries and chargers wherever i go either.

11. knights4life03 posted on 21 Feb 2012, 19:50 1 1

exactly bro cuz u cant work the phone if its dead. but as far as the high end? motorola takes the crown of with the droid razr maxx becuz the theoretical specs of how the battery performs is true but u also have galaxy note on at&t which has a 2500 mah battery but also being used up by the huge display, lte, and other software or personal purposes and is still can hold on to life but i got wat u guys are saying becuz not all phones have good battery life and have to carry around a charger or a spare battery.... we need more life in our everday phones

I wish this was emphazied more. I love the maxx best phone avaliable right now in my opinion.

17. remixfa posted on 21 Feb 2012, 20:46 2 1

The maxx is pretty nice, no doubt.

between the 2, id take power and an extended battery. :) I can skip LTE, thanks.

There is something about having a huge bulge in my phone over two years that bugs me.
I also love LTE. What I like about it is when 1 bar it seems to preform better then other 4g networks. Plus its fast outright. Great for video streaming.

21. remixfa posted on 21 Feb 2012, 21:46 1 1

I still average 4-5mbps on my Tmobile 3g. HSPA+ 21mb/s is more than fast enough. I'll take an exynos over 42mb/s or LTE any day of the week. Maybe If i didnt have access to a fast 3G backhaul like I do on Tmobile (like VZW and Sprints pokey 1.5mb/s "3G") I'd probably care more.
Heck, I've chosen my 3G SGS1 over every other phone I have access too.. which is .. well.. just about all of them. It just has sooooo much development i never get bored with the thing. lol

22. biophone posted on 21 Feb 2012, 22:19

I go to areas where my backup 3g is even spotty and when lte preforms well with 1 bar was nice when I had my thunderbolt. Its was nice when I have 1 bar of 3g and 1 bar of 4g i still could make calls and have fast internet. I very rarely go below 1 bar of 3g with verizon's big network albeit slow and with the added benefit of fast 4g with little network coverage the experience is better. Thats why I prefer Lte over HSPA+. I could care less about the processor because to be honest if you didn't tell me which was faster I couldn't tell the difference between the dual cores. I can barely tell the difference between single and dual core. The difference to me is that 4g sometimes gets spotty and you want it to preform well when this happens. The processor aren't affected by where you are and when they are both running at full potential they are both more then necessary.

9. Jphones posted on 21 Feb 2012, 19:45

Yeah about time they focus on battery life. Let's stop worring about how many cores somethin has an worry about if it will last. Like muscle cars might be powerful but the gas mileage sucks. That's why they need to let battery technology catch up to processor tech.

13. squallz506 posted on 21 Feb 2012, 20:02 1

so you would rather drive a prius than a 1970 dodge super bee pushing a 426 hemi? lol

lets all be glad that android provides near limitless processor and battery options (including aftermarket extended).

19. Jphones posted on 21 Feb 2012, 20:54 1

Yes I would you Jack I'm saving money catch up. An your analogy is horrible you can't legally drive as fast as that car can go. An that car burns hella gas and cost of repairs and restoration is tremendous. Prius saves gas is reasonable on price and Toyota parts are cheap. All that after market crap you gotta buy for phones with most of it should be included. Why should I have to buy a battery extender when companies know dam well the battery life sucks? I'll tell you why to make more dam money.

Wait doesnt quad core use less power, or is that for Nvidia Tegra 3 only?
