Qualcomm: both Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 are powered by a Snapdragon 801, but here's the difference
0. phoneArena 03 Mar 2014, 04:57 posted on
Qualcomm took some time to explain its new categorization, and it turns out that both the MSM8974-AB and MSM8974-AC processors, that are in the Z2 and S5, respectively, are now comprising a new, Snapdragon 801 category. Snapdragon 800, as you can find it in the LG G2 or Xperia Z1, stays designated as simply MSM8974...

Nor were Motorola or the Google Nexus devices

What!? Stop Blabbering Please... Lumia is the best smartphone, just wait for my justification :).

And I thought the Cortex-Ax processors are confusing enough

I'll wait for Sony Xperia Z3 in Fall with Snapdragon 805.

I'll wait for snapdragon 900 , but then 1000 will also come! what do I do? I keep waiting...

I'm already using a Z1s at the moment. SD 800 is uber fast! I don't think I need to upgrade to Z2 with a SD 801 SoC. Z3 with a SD 805 SoC I think will be a MAJOR upgrade, though.

"Touchwiz which will.lag more" Waiting for Sammy to prove you wrong.
"AMOLED hmmm same as S4" but improved!
"Fingerprint all gimmick" I guess iphone 5s is also gimmick!
"Ip67 same as s4 active" so there will be no need to make another water resistant variant.my point
"Power? RAM lacks behind 1 year" when Note 3 came out you all said it was too much. Anyway its running KK so no worries. Sammy will shock everyone!

fingerprint on the iphone 5S works, on the S5 tech reviewers couldnt get it to work. theres the difference, IP67 is not that great, problems with the active were everywhere, should have been IP58 which lasts longer under water. the RAM the note needed it, have you seen how much the note uses, and still manages to have lag? touchwiz is just heavy, I will wait for more hands on regarding touchwiz, because I am not sold with the supposedly new design, they have mentioned the only new thing is the settings menu.
72. Federated (Posts: 255; Member since: 06 Mar 2010)
That's true. TouchWiz is the major cause of LAG. 100 GB of RAM I think will solve it to run like iPhone or Windows Phone. lol

The SD600 can run every app in the Play Store which makes any upgrade nice but somehow useless.

I have the S4 and it can't run dead trigger on high/ultra high, which would be nice. Being future proofed is never a bad thing.

Samsung fans try to claim Samsung always has better hardware lol. It's so sad when they can't see that every manufacturer uses the same s**t. It comes down to the software and touch wiz is the suck
52. UglyFrank (Posts: 966; Member since: 23 Jan 2014)
Every samsung has something better than other phones, the S4 had the AB S600 and the note 3 had USB 3.0 etc

They usually do actually, which is a huge part of their success. I thought this ended with the GS5 but it looks like I was wrong.

Wow, there is an absolute ton of hyperbole being tossed around these days over devices that haven't been released yet. Like one device over the other? Sure, go nuts. But statements like: "Device X is better than device Y in every possible way", are silly and misinformed. They don't do you, or the mobile enthusiast community as a whole any justice. We are better than that.

Whatever be it snapdragon 801 or 800, galaxy s5 will be the faster phone as samsung is better(best title is held by apple) at 'optimising' benchmarks for its smartphones.

Those differences are on a small margin. Side by side you wont feel the differences, moreon the everyday usage. Specs are for geeks, normal average users dont reaaly care. They all know is
Dual Core = fast
Quad Core = super fast
Octa core = ultra fast
Thats all average users care about.

Lets settle this..
S5=9.5/10 (due to better battery and camera)

I wonder if sony is paying all these fan boys or something. This article literally PROVES that the S5 will be faster but all they have to say is "LOL 3 gigs". Nice try guys. Also worth noting that a lot of these guys only joined a couple of days/months ago. Really suspicious now that I think about it
66. Odiin (Posts: 331; Member since: 23 Apr 2013)
Faster? How much? If sammy fanboys like you saying that little clock speed makes ur S5 super fast then why cant sony fanboys shout about extra 1 gig of Ram?
68. tedkord (Posts: 6798; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Most likely both of these devices will be fast enough that got can't tell the difference. But until the final products hit the market, nobody knows.

Don't get me wrong I was initially disappointed in the look of the S5 until I saw the reviews and what they had to say about it. I believe there will be a qhd version with more ram and maybe a few other goodies. Whatever is the case super amoled is superior in my eyes no other display can beat it. Deeper richer colors deeper blacks. All in all from what I've seen the S5 is going to be a winner. Have you noticed that HTC with their dwindling smart phone sales have finally got smart and are letting you add an external sd card!! They've been losing their ass cause they weren't smart enough to realize that Sammy was blowing them out of the water with replaceable battery and the ability to add more storage! Samsung rules others drool lol!

What do we thin the first phone with the 805 will be?
82. Taters (Posts: 4307; Member since: 28 Jan 2013)
People that think this doesn't make a huge difference is kidding themselves. Same difference as the 5s vs ipad air. Despite it being the same A7 chip, the clock speed and battery management makes a huge power difference.
84. Taters (Posts: 4307; Member since: 28 Jan 2013)
The ipad air was just a CPU bump too. This one is a CPU AND GPU bump. The differences should be huge.....
91. Darrylhuet (Posts: 1; Member since: 22 Mar 2014)
I'm guessing you know nothing about CPUs and GPUs, 0.2 GHz on the CPU isn't even much in real life performance; because most of the time it isn't even running 2.5ghz and it doesn't need to. Same with the GPU a simple 30-40 mhz won't make a difference. 3gbs of ram is more useful then 30-40 boost to a GPU anyways.
87. Taters (Posts: 4307; Member since: 28 Jan 2013)
So how does it feel for the Sony fans to know that the internals of their flagship is already outdated on release? Knowing HTC, they probably won't use the nicer SD 801 either.
Even when Samsung takes a more conservative route they still own HTC and Sony....
