Quad-core Exynos 5440 by Samsung is a Cortex A15-based SoC
0. phoneArena 03 Dec 2012, 04:27 posted on
Evidence suggests that a Samsung Exynos 5440 is already in the works. This new SoC will be of the quad-core kind and will also utilize Cortex A15 processors...

When hardware is properly utilized, the Nexus 10 is one water tight and blinding fast device, so to think what performance double the CPU and GPU cores and half the pixels can produce with improved drivers and higher clock speed, well that is just brutal, the S4 will blow out the competition. And with the kind of shortage on the Nexus 10, I might as well just sit out the time until the 5450 Note 10.1 II arrives.

..and put in the android KLP on top of that.
Note 10 II will be a staggeringly great experience..and GS4, if really having that kind of chip (even underclocked) will be ridiculously fast

LOL, by the time shall we wait again for even greater Note 10 III in 2014?

No you can wait for the next ipad which will be announced 6 months after the ipad 5 :D

I just have this to say....
Sammy baby let's get the party started!!!
Can anyone please say Galaxy S4 and an overclocked 5440 for the Note 3!!!

Better be quick Sammy!

not that they are about to make 5 inch 1080p phones with these proccesors sammy has my permission to make 4 inch HD screen with their exyinos 4 to blow out the competition!!! :)))

And apple sticks with dual core A9 chips. Haw haw haw.
30. feres13 (Posts: 306; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
Actually it's a costum bdesing SOC, Like the S4 Krait.Apple doesn't need a killer CPU to run smoother. What is has on the olther hand is a killer GPU witch is what really needs improvement : gaming in android is laggy unlike in ios. Just check GLBenchmark in anandtech to see that iphones are always on top ==> anandtech.com/show/6440/google-nexus-4-review/3

I love my Galaxy Note 2. But yes I will buy the Galaxy Note 3.

a dual core exynos 5 could run 2560x1600 screen without any hiccups. i wonder what quad core could do on full hd resolution, although i hope they could upgrade the gpu to give even better performance on gaming and intensive tasks
12. TheCynicalTechie (Posts: 78; Member since: 19 Nov 2012)
It is not really "without any hiccups," there are performance drops in the Nexus 10 tablet. It is speedy overall, but not all the time.
16. rickywinataa (Posts: 262; Member since: 05 Apr 2012)
well, we should compromise it as even for dekstop & notebook, 2560x1600 is possibly the highest resolution for daily consumer use.
24. jove39 (Posts: 1361; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
Well...Exynos5 is no doubt best SOC...well...almost as good as Apple's A6x...hiccups are often due to badly written apps...read an article yday on G+...writer investigated 3rd party twitter client which had issues of overdraw...just a code issue...not HW/SOC!

You know they exynos is not the reason why it run fast right? The GPU which is independ of the CPU is why the N10 was about to run it. The mali604 is from ARM not samsung.

Awesome...now this beast will rule all of 2013...cant't think of any other 4core arm based soc challenging exynos (I do have expectations from Tegra4 but based on past...Tegra (Tegra3 vs Exynos4) won't be able to beat Exynos)
13. XiphiasGladius (Posts: 805; Member since: 21 Aug 2011)
I do have thesame high expectations for the Tegra4 though I'm still skeptical/cutious as to how good is the GPU that will come with it.
22. rickywinataa (Posts: 262; Member since: 05 Apr 2012)
tegra 3 relies on older manifacturing process, that why it can't beat exynos 4. when tegra 4 comes out, it will have the near processing raw power as other A15 SoC, the real competition is their GPU
25. jove39 (Posts: 1361; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
Well performance isn't based on manufacturing process...well little bit...28nm has thermal advantages allowing higher clocks and die shrink...but Tegra3 suffers more serious problem...it has single channel memory interface...just look at quadrant scores carefully...it shows separate colors on bar for cpu, memory, io and 2d and 3d

note iii I imagine, with quad-
core Exynos 5440 the dream of a geek would come true. couple that with full HD crop of screen already rolling out and you have an amazing toy in your hands!

I wish theirs Mali can compete with PowerVR GPU and then they have a real winner.
23. Lawliet (Posts: 160; Member since: 02 Jul 2012)
Well, I'm not much of a spec-geek, but this is certainly nice to have.
Though knowing Samsung, it'll be around 1.4 ~ 1.6 Ghz

The smart phone industry is getting to the point where number of cores really doesn't matter. I feel manufacturers should be concentrating more on the user experience through continued improvements in areas such as software optimization, battery endurance, and productivity based solutions. Instead, they seem to be competing in this never-ending race of raw specs and synthetic benchmarks.
34. temodumbadze (Posts: 9; Member since: 10 Oct 2012)
you`re so right, they have gone f**kin far with these resolutions and processors instead of making nicecly optimized software and optimized apps

You would think that with current CPUs, Android could have better UI performance (ala iOS/WP) but no, even w/ dual and even quad core T3 CPUs, UI performance is a step down compared to iOS/WP. To me, this points to a low level design flaw in Android which I hope gets fixed soon.
On another note, I would like to see this chip end up inside a Google Chromebook much like the one recently introduced.

Samsung is not going 2 put 5440 in the sg4. Even at 28nm, it would use 2 much battery & it would be overkill. The duel core a15 wil be more than enough power.
35. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 4498; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
That is DEFINITELY not going to happen. A 28nm quad-core Samsung Exynos 5440 will be VERY efficient, just like the 28nm quad-core Qualcomm Krait S4 Pro.
Remember the Samsung Galaxy S IV is going to have a 1080p True HD Super AMOLED screen. It's definitely going to get a quad-core Exynos 5440.
37. medicci37 (Posts: 745; Member since: 19 Nov 2011)
I also remember the nexus 10 runs at 2560 × 1600. So why would 1080p be a problem for the a15 duel core ? Also, there is the fact than Samsung has already stated that the a15 quad would first be used in tabs, tv's & notebooks.
38. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 4498; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
Do you really think Samsung would release the Galaxy S IV with a dual-core instread of a quad-core? I think you know the answer to that is no.
Samsung's baby is the Galaxy S line. Tab's, tv's & notebooks are all second fiddle compared to the Galaxy S line. If anything gets a quad-core Exynos 5440 it will be the Galaxy S IV, then everything you just mentioned.

Samsung exynos 5250 already has the strongest GPU, if exynos 5440 will have it a little bit overclocked then it is going to be a beast. Mali T-604 is already more powerful than XBOX 360. And quad-core A-15 is going to be more efficient than quad-core A-9. Exynos 4412 which is A-9 is already efficient, so I can immagine that exynos 5440 will be even more efficient. The only SoC that will be able to compete with exynos 5440 is Tegra 4 with Kepler GPU. S4 pro will be out of the ´´performance´´ game, the only thing where S4 pro will be better is that it has an integrated 4G modem.

The mali 604 is not faster or stronger then the Xbox360 or the PS3
43. Pedro0x (Posts: 271; Member since: 19 Oct 2012)
Well, according to Qualcomm it is. Qualcomm said that Adreno 320 has about the same graphic power as Xbox360. And Mali t-604 is more poweful than adreno 320 so by that logic mali t-604 is more powerful than Xbox360.
