I can't think of how this would be useful...only in an office setting.

..gotta admit the price is quite high, but the technology is also new. Like heavybreathing said , and office desk or home office is probably the best setting for this, but you know people gonna buy it just because it's a cool new way to charge your phone. And as far as trying to generate more revene to come back from the "Hole", it might not be a bad idea from Palm to not only come up with a new device but also a cool accesory that will attract more $$$..

I'm starting to get very worried about the future of Sprint, Palm and the Pre. I've been just as excited and anxious as a lot of Sprint customers about the Pre's release, but the more I read about pricing for the phone, and now for the touchstone, the more I am starting to worry! It is INSANE to think that people are going to pay $70 for a charger! And with everything I've been reading that points to the phone being at a $299 price point, Sprint and Palm are CERTAINLY pricing themselves to a very quick death. In this economy I think someone over at Sprint needs to realize that people are not going to want to pay that much for a phone, much less a charger! After taxes and whatnot, it'll be over $400 for the phone and touchstone. Thats insane! Come on Sprint! Get it together!!!!

$69.99 will keep me from buying one but it is only $20 more than what Sprint charges for the Palm Treo travel chargers right now. There is talk that the Touchstone line will do more than just charge, like USB docks or car kits using the same concept. http://nextelonline.nextel.com

That is why I posted the link (not sure if it worked thought cuz I may have entered a zip code some were). $49.99 for a regular travel/wall charger is cazy. The proprietary Palm charger is the only one that's that expensive though. If you look at the charger for the Palm Pro (mini USB) its $34.99 so a little better. Either way it is a crazy mark up since the company I work for sell those same exact same USB charger to dealer for $8.28.

they said that the touchstone charging style was an option to charge it. not the only way. if you want to pay 69.99 thats cool but you dont have to if you want the phone.

Seems like Sprint is desperate investing Everything into the Palm Pre. Its not really changing the world of phones its just making improvements upon it with a new OS. I'm not even going to lie the Web OS looks like it will be one of the best OS's out there but if you wait another 6 months to a year there is going to be some other Palm out there with the same OS for half the price. Sprint is putting to much into this phone that will be nothing more than a stepping stone for the Web OS.

generally, palm debuts their phones in the us on sprint, and then everyone else gets it... this is going back to the treo pro, treo 800, centro, etc. so when the new palm phones do come out, chances are that sprint will get them first, followed by all the other us carriers. at&t has apple, vzw has lg (and to an extent rim), tmobile now has android based phones, and sprint has palm (WebOS)

A stepping stone for a new OS! That may be all it takes to bring a company like Palm back.
