Above all, the coolest thing about the SpareOne is that it’s rated to provide a mind-boggling 15 years of standby! Well, it’s specifically to offer that much longevity using the included Energizer Lithium AA battery...

if you could get a sim card with such a long shelf time this would be a good idea...
where i'm from, 6 months is the longest period that a prepaid account lets you use the network. and i don't see the point of paying a monthly subscription for something that sits in your gloves compartment.

but i guess you don't need a sim card to call 112 (or 911), so this would be helpfull if you have an emergency and at the same time your phone's battery is dead.

interesting concept, but usefull? i don't see it...

It's perfect for an emergency phone. Like you said lukasound "if you have an emergency and at the same time your phone's battery is dead", you could put the sim card from your dead phone in this phone. I know I have forgotten my charger at least once when I have been traveling, and have needed to make a call. This way I could take my sim card and put it into this phone to make a call (if I can remember the number). Brilliant!
