Portland joins WiMAX cities
With recently merging its spectrum with Sprint, Clearwire opened up the second WiMAX market in Portland, Oregon. It seems like an obvious choice to launch it there because Intel and Clearwire have headquarters located near the city. Employees over at the Intel headquarters have been quietly testing out the connection at their corporate campus for over a year now. So it made sense for the two companies to launch the WiMAX network in Portland which is the closest major city to both of them. Sprint and Clearwire will be opening up new markets in the upcoming year in major cities such as Chicago, Boston, and Philadelphia. There have been reports already stating that the Chicago launch will be pushed back towards the second half of 2009. WiMAX already is the first out of the gate domestically to promote 4G connections.
