if the razr had ICS and an unlocked boot loader, this poll would be very different

If it were a pure DEVICE selection (e.g., specs, customization, unified OS) I agree that the Galaxy Nexus wins this poll.

If we're talking ECOSYSTEM, I'd take the iPhone 4S. Particularly, backwards compatibility, resale value, Apple customer service (including warranty), app quality, iTunes Match, optional Jailbreak (icing on cake).

if you go all in with apple and buy all their apple products, like you have, the ecosystem would be a great benefit. Since I keep brand loyalty sparse, it wouldnt do anything for me... lol.

I dont understand the backwards compatibility and some of the other things you list, but hey, to each their own.

Quick word about iPhone and backwards compatibility:

If you buy accessories (e.g., iPod dock stereo, workout armband, external backup battery, car charger), you can be sure that your future iPhone/iDevice will work with them, too.

I find that difficult with any OS where the HW mfg doesn't make the SW (e.g., Android, Windows Phone). If you buy an extra battery or armband for these phones, most likely they won't work with your future device. So, you will have to re-buy all those accessories...if you appreciate the option to buy all of it. One of the only things that remains constant is buying a microSD card that you can use in your future device.

I realize you could buy a universal USB portable charger, but it is a less-than-elegant work-around.

And 1 more thing:
"Never gonna give you up, Never gonna let you down"

I don't know much about backwards compatibility but for example those 3G/3GS users that got an iPhone 4/4S had to buy new stuff the only issue with parts can be found when you buy non standard based products, and there seems to be a reduction on that matter lately. and if the 5/6 iPhone has a redesign you probably have to change yours too.

but for example I don't have to buy a car changer when I get a new android or wp7 device, or HDMI cable or HDMI adapter, yes cases mostly have to go but my ruining stuff stays the same since I can fit a Nexus on it (quite roomy), I ust agree that some external charging sources that work for all devices don't look pretty

"...3G/3GS users that got an iPhone 4/4S had to buy new stuff..."

By "new stuff," the only thing you could be referring to is a case.

I guess by "backwards compatible" I meant that accessories you buy are "future compatible."

My armband, dock-stereo, external backup battery, and car charger all work with older and current models. Apple knows they have many devices supporting their form-factor and proprietary connector, so they will continue to make future devices supporting them.

Even between the latest Android phones there is inconsistency in connectors, for example the Droid RAZR has HDMI out and microUSB connectors....and a MHL port combining these two ports in one on the Galaxy SII and Nexus.

I personally see a brand incompatibility rather than general incompatibility , if you see all high end moto all have hdmi port, if you see sammy it's the same, moto is even making the laptop dock compatible with other moto handset and the keyboard dock for the transformer should work on the t2. So if you like to jump from one to the other then you have an issue,

if you stick with the same brand, the battery thing isnt always true.

I just swapped out the battery from a newer samsung and stuck it into my galaxy1. Same size battery, higher mAh.. upgrade :)

Right, and it's good to see that Samsung supports the MHL port on both of their newest high-end models (Galaxy SII, Galaxy Nexus).

If we move to Verizon, the Nexus will certainly get my Wife's buisness due to it's huge, vibrant screen so long as it is a well reviewed device (which I am sure it will be) and so long as it's camera is good.

I really am still surprised that Apple went the 4S route after the long wait between iPhone announcements. Siri is the only reason to get the 4S over the 4. That may be more of the reason for the iPhone is lacking support among the tech crowds. Apple fans were expecting a bit more. I am really curious to see if they pull a huge rabbit out of the hat this summer.

Love the Droid RZR's potential, but it is only going to be on 1 carrier. Kinda surprised it did as well as it did in this poll for that reason.

I do not understand the sentence "most people are holding out for something better".
I think you mean "Most people ran up and bought the 4S and crazy fans are holding out for nothing".

4 million out of a few billion cell phone users is not "most people". Its a fat number for sure, but its still just a small % of the total ecosystem.

the sales also havent been broken down into "current iOS users, users from another smartphone, first smartphone" to see where the sales truely lie. Everything right now is just a guestimate. First adopters are by and large people that are already huge fans of the product, manufacturer, ect... not the general public.

4 million is still a lot of phones for opening weekend. If TMo had been involved it would have been higher. Only way to really compare is to have a new Android flagship be released ON THE SAME DAY (hahaha.. good luck with that! =D) on at least three carriers.

Regardless of 'breakdown', the 4S is a very successful phone. Lot's of people were off of contract or had an upgrade and were waiting for it. You'll have to wait and see the 'long-term' success of the phone to compare it to units sold to other devices.

The bottom line is that the IOS should have spend more time in thier device and see what their competitions are doing and up their game since they only have one device against many android squads of highperformance devices. I would think it would be a lot easier to focus on one device and build a superior phone that will set the standards for others to follow than to make excuses of many android phonoes against poor iphone. Either they man-up and come up with something great or keep playing catch-up instead and quit coming up with a product others have and calling it innovative as if it is new. The bottom line is we are heading more into a technological future and apple just made a boo-boo and face masked their supporters by coming up with the same 3.5 inch screen. Seriously? Android have reached 5.3 inch HD with galaxy note but mostly ICS 4.0 with a great standard for our devices. I remember when android first came out, iphone users clowned at android as in "what is that piece of crap", well that piece of crap is now smacking the heck out of iphone and won't even let em get up. You can take this however you like but apple fans need to stop playing the victim and know that android will not wait for anyone. SMH!
