I am a tech enthusiast. I dont owe an allegiance to any brand, OS, or manufacturer. For the purposes of discussion I am grouped with the android people since I spend the bulk of my time defending it against certain board trolls. However, I defend all OS's against inaccuracies and I have personally owned most every major OS besides Symbian and iOS.

Ive owned a windows phone. Think of it as the love child of android and iOS, taking many of both's cues. its very solid, slick, and stable while offering some customization (more with each update) and better OS integration of things like twitter and facebook than either iOS or android.

The reason I didnt stay with it was I am too used to androids uber customizations. i couldnt give up the ability to tinker (my xda obsession is documented on the boards..lol). That and I had it when it first launched so there were many apps that I had to give up to keep it.. which again, im not ready to do. It could also use higher resolutions and stronger hardware.. as well as better battery life (i hate the use of snapdragons!!! ugh)

Once it gets a navigation on par with free google NAV (and again, free as well), and the app store fills up a bit, I'll probably be giving it a second look.

there is a reason your one of the idiots i constantly bring up.

You do realize the bet is for Q1 2012.. that would be jan-feb-march.. lol. That has nothing to do with right now. Right now the iphone is performing well due to its initial sales bump that all iphones and most phones in general get. It wont have that sales bump in Q1 2012, so please educate yourself... no better yet, take the bet.

look you ignoramus

3gs
4 gsm
4 cdma
4s gsm
4s cdma

that looks like 5.. count them 5 versions of iphones for sale right now.

vs
SGS2
Nexus Prime
SGS1

and maybe the Note

and EXTRA maybe the SGS2-HD.

You technically have more DEVICES FOR SALE.
and if u want to count the CDMA and GSM versions as the same, then you have the SAME amount of devices for sale.
and the SGS2 is OLDER THAN the i4s.

you are a moron of the highest caliber.

chicken out of what exactly? a lopsided bet that only an idiot like you would think is fair? lol.
you wanna go OS to OS or manufacturer to manufacturer, im game.

You want to go phone to phone. Ill tell you what, when there is as much inner OS competition on the apple side as there is on the android side (aka the same amount of phones for each) then we can go phone to phone. the i4s only competes with android, the SGS2 not only competes with the i4s, but with every other high spec'd android on the market.
the i4s will still be the top selling singular phone on the market just like its predicessors.. because it has no competition at the top of the iOS space. Android faces immense competition internally. That is also why android phones are eons ahead of apple phones in technology. competition. you can keep your "highest selling phone" award, because it means nothing. you can also keep your 800mhz 3.5 inch lower-mid tiered "top of the line" iphone.. lol.

Havent you been paying attention? Michael has spelled it out numerous times. Apple DOESNT CARE about total sales, just total profit. Google DOESNT CARE about huge profit, just total market proliferation. Its not in apple's interest to split their line up into many devices, and its not in googles interest to narrow the android army into just a few devices.
So the ONLY way to have a measuring contest is by OS, which you will lose before you start, or manufacturer to manufacturer where the amount of phones are widdled down into something that is vaguely similar on both sides, which is the current bet that taco and I have.

in trying to continually call me out on this BS wanna be macho bet that you are crying about, you are only making yourself look more dumb than normal.

if the nexus actually gets launched on every carrier.. or at least all the same ones as the i4s/i4, then we will finally have a head to head race.

I dont think it will outsell because of the nature of the beast. Iphone sells 1 model for a year or so, so you dont really have a choice. The nexus prime is great, but the competition on the android side will have it out dated by january with something bigger n better. It will still keep selling because its a nexus and that is a brand name to keep, but it will eventually be outsold by other android devices like the galaxy3 or whatever else may be in store for us.
Of course, I could be wrong, but thats how its been played out so far.

iPhone was on AT&T and most large carriers in every country it was sold and the Galaxy model phones and Nexus are just pulling up brand recognition and retention. Also iPhone on AT&T has a much bigger advantage than the Nexus on T-Mo.

Teaming up with Verizon is a winning strategy cause Verizon is hands down the best advertising US cell company. A well branded Nexus on Verizon could be the kind of thing that busts out 30 or 40 million units globally without much of a sweat.

Simply speaking, this website appeals to informed consumers when it comes to phones and the information available doesn't support iphone. Granted there are people who look at all choices then choose iphone but for the most part I would guess is that people who buy an iphone don't bother to look at alternatives, their minds are already made.

The iPhone will always be popular so of course its sales will show that. Howe er most people do want to see something different and new in ICS that the Nexus brings. So I wasn't surprised that the Nexus easily won. The SGS2 and RAZR are both excellent phones but gingerbread is old news and won't get the excitement until they get ICS.

If it were a pure DEVICE selection (e.g., specs, customization, unified OS) I agree that the Galaxy Nexus wins this poll.

If we're talking ECOSYSTEM, I'd take the iPhone 4S. Particularly, backwards compatibility, resale value, Apple customer service (including warranty), app quality, iTunes Match, optional Jailbreak (icing on cake).

I dont understand the backwards compatibility and some of the other things you list, but hey, to each their own.

Quick word about iPhone and backwards compatibility:

If you buy accessories (e.g., iPod dock stereo, workout armband, external backup battery, car charger), you can be sure that your future iPhone/iDevice will work with them, too.

I find that difficult with any OS where the HW mfg doesn't make the SW (e.g., Android, Windows Phone). If you buy an extra battery or armband for these phones, most likely they won't work with your future device. So, you will have to re-buy all those accessories...if you appreciate the option to buy all of it. One of the only things that remains constant is buying a microSD card that you can use in your future device.

I realize you could buy a universal USB portable charger, but it is a less-than-elegant work-around.

And 1 more thing:
"Never gonna give you up, Never gonna let you down"

I don't know much about backwards compatibility but for example those 3G/3GS users that got an iPhone 4/4S had to buy new stuff the only issue with parts can be found when you buy non standard based products, and there seems to be a reduction on that matter lately. and if the 5/6 iPhone has a redesign you probably have to change yours too.

but for example I don't have to buy a car changer when I get a new android or wp7 device, or HDMI cable or HDMI adapter, yes cases mostly have to go but my ruining stuff stays the same since I can fit a Nexus on it (quite roomy), I ust agree that some external charging sources that work for all devices don't look pretty

"...3G/3GS users that got an iPhone 4/4S had to buy new stuff..."

By "new stuff," the only thing you could be referring to is a case.

I guess by "backwards compatible" I meant that accessories you buy are "future compatible."

My armband, dock-stereo, external backup battery, and car charger all work with older and current models. Apple knows they have many devices supporting their form-factor and proprietary connector, so they will continue to make future devices supporting them.

Even between the latest Android phones there is inconsistency in connectors, for example the Droid RAZR has HDMI out and microUSB connectors....and a MHL port combining these two ports in one on the Galaxy SII and Nexus.

I personally see a brand incompatibility rather than general incompatibility , if you see all high end moto all have hdmi port, if you see sammy it's the same, moto is even making the laptop dock compatible with other moto handset and the keyboard dock for the transformer should work on the t2. So if you like to jump from one to the other then you have an issue,

If we move to Verizon, the Nexus will certainly get my Wife's buisness due to it's huge, vibrant screen so long as it is a well reviewed device (which I am sure it will be) and so long as it's camera is good.

I really am still surprised that Apple went the 4S route after the long wait between iPhone announcements. Siri is the only reason to get the 4S over the 4. That may be more of the reason for the iPhone is lacking support among the tech crowds. Apple fans were expecting a bit more. I am really curious to see if they pull a huge rabbit out of the hat this summer.

Love the Droid RZR's potential, but it is only going to be on 1 carrier. Kinda surprised it did as well as it did in this poll for that reason.

the sales also havent been broken down into "current iOS users, users from another smartphone, first smartphone" to see where the sales truely lie. Everything right now is just a guestimate. First adopters are by and large people that are already huge fans of the product, manufacturer, ect... not the general public.

4 million is still a lot of phones for opening weekend. If TMo had been involved it would have been higher. Only way to really compare is to have a new Android flagship be released ON THE SAME DAY (hahaha.. good luck with that! =D) on at least three carriers.

Regardless of 'breakdown', the 4S is a very successful phone. Lot's of people were off of contract or had an upgrade and were waiting for it. You'll have to wait and see the 'long-term' success of the phone to compare it to units sold to other devices.

The bottom line is that the IOS should have spend more time in thier device and see what their competitions are doing and up their game since they only have one device against many android squads of highperformance devices. I would think it would be a lot easier to focus on one device and build a superior phone that will set the standards for others to follow than to make excuses of many android phonoes against poor iphone. Either they man-up and come up with something great or keep playing catch-up instead and quit coming up with a product others have and calling it innovative as if it is new. The bottom line is we are heading more into a technological future and apple just made a boo-boo and face masked their supporters by coming up with the same 3.5 inch screen. Seriously? Android have reached 5.3 inch HD with galaxy note but mostly ICS 4.0 with a great standard for our devices. I remember when android first came out, iphone users clowned at android as in "what is that piece of crap", well that piece of crap is now smacking the heck out of iphone and won't even let em get up. You can take this however you like but apple fans need to stop playing the victim and know that android will not wait for anyone. SMH!
