Playing Hide and Seek with the Palm Pre

During each day, your Pre reports back to Palm about apps that don't work, apps you've installed, and even more spy-like, the device tells Palm your location...

When you activate a windows phone microsoft asks you if you would like to participate in the anonymous information and error sending... I always say yes becuase I am not doing anything illegal, I don't do drugs, and it helps better the product... Why do grocery storres have the "club/discount cards" they want to track your purchasing habits... not to STALK YOU! But to better anticiapate your spending habits, where you shop, what items you tend to buy... That way they can store those items in the time intervals you tend to shop at the places you shop when you need them... This makes it cheaper for them to provide you goods because there is less waste, less time in a wearhouse. Palm and Windows do the same thing... if you are that paranoid stop smoking so much weed and get a life. OR!!!! Better yet just disable the service or say "NO" to the option to collect information... SHOCKING HOW EASY IT IS!

I think most people have a problem with it reporting your location more than any thing else. I want the phone to send them crash reports ect. When you activate the phone you get the screen in the link below. No one ever reads the fine print but most will check the box to allow location info to be sent. Also go to "Location Services" in the Launcher and the last one is "Background Data Collection" and you can toggle it on or off...problem solved! I have nothing to hide and if the FBI is tracking you down you've got bigger issues anyway. All they need is a subpoena and the carrier will give up the info anyways. http://www.engadgetmobile.com/

I hate it when people rag on Phonearena, but I guess I'm jumping on the bandwagon. This is the dumbest article that I have ever waisted my time reading.

I'm a rep for a multiple carrier store- when we activate the Pre's there a very detailed startup we have to do with the customer with about two or three seperate TOS screens and its has all the information about data gathering and location reporting to Google. The customer has to agree to it or disable the function on the phone. So the customers are told and are given the option to disable those things. Maybe some stores don't do the startup properly with their customers, but the software pretty much tells you exactly what this article is complaining about.

Phonearena... when you activate a palm pre, it asks you if you want to enable autolocate and allow your GPS to be used for location based services. if you're not a complete moron, you can't miss this because you can't get past this screen unless you select yes or no. to top this off, why are you feeding people fule to this stupid fire. you're implying it's very big-brother-ish. i doubt 99.999% of these insignificant pre users out there make a difference where they're at. are they that important? probably not. i have a PRE, so find me hahaha
