Photo of Apple iPad 3 casing leaks; no quad-core and thicker body for larger battery

Speculation is swirling all around the Apple iPad 3 about the A6 processor expected to power the tablet; according to The Verge, the A6 will not be a quad-core processor as expected, but will be a upgraded dual-core processor with a more powerful graphics core...

True, the OS is so simple it does not really require the extra horsepower. But, if you want to keep pushing gaming on the device forward it needs a bigger GPU. If the chip is die shrank to 32nm, it will come with a bit of extra speed and better battery life automatically, even at the same clocks.

Of course there will be no quad-core, that will be saved for iPad 7S.
Nevertheless, "they" aka iShē€p, will think it's ground-breaking and will line-up behind barricades so they can post videos of SiRi as their personal trainer on Youtube.

i think it seems more likely that they will release a 2S version instead of the 3 just like they did with the 4S. They like increments so its clear already. It will probably not sport LTE yet because even a dual core chip like the A6 does not have LTE built into its functionality so it would be mean two chips which they would not do (battery hog). SImply put, it will be increment.

Who cares iFanboys will buy anything apple offers, that is their nature, btw, since when iShē€p is a banned word? its clear that this site is full of them, lol

iPad 3 has a dual core oh it's ok because quad core is overkill...iphone 4s has a dual core while iphone 4 was smooth that's not overkill. Iphone 4S has no LTE oh I don't need so fast connectivity...iPad 3 has LTE oh dear I can't wait.

Iphone 4S it's ok with 3.5 screen, bigger screens don't fit in my pocket. iPhone 5 has 4.6 screen...oh it's so cool to surf the web with such screen

huh? dual core? does not sound like apple to be doing this, plus it kind of contradicts the fact that they have been manufacturing the A6 Quad core chip. and if it is dual core then they will probably have gone with the ARM Cortex-A15 MP2 cores

this dOES makes sense, i mean it's like iPad 2S.....the upgrade...i like!

Althought it is true that apple has generally run faster, a quad cor will allow android products to load faster than a dual core ipad 3

It really seems like with out Steve jobs apple is not going to be the same innovating company I really hope it's not going to be a small improvement for next iPad. I don't think just because it's duel core or quad core is a deal breaker because duel core has only just been out for a year and duel core can still be improved without going to quad. Especially with the fact developers need to change there programs too much to make them us full on a quad core. A well built duel core can actually out handle a quad if the software does not use all the cores or not use them efficiently. One thing I would get irritated about is if the made the small increas in hardware and coming out with a cool software innovation like Siri that only is allowed on the 3 even though it can work on the 2nd iPad. It would be nice if the bezel gets smaller. Idk really I have an iPad 2 and I like the battery life. I wanted an android for the flash capability but I can't ignore my iPad 2 is working so well. If there is a small increas I will keep my iPad 2 and wait too see what windows 8 tablets and newer android tablets do because to be honest even with an retna display and a quad core there has to be somthing alot more to really make me sell my iPad 2 to get the next one

@abdane coming from someone with a Samsung logo for their profile picture, i would be surprised if my iPhone 4 got lag on ios 5., same with an iPad 1.

41. jamrockjones posted on 09 Feb 2012, 09:57

I knew they wouldn't put a quad-core processor in their phone, Apple does not like to innovate with hardware. There rarely are any significant improvements with new Apple products.

the iphone 4s is faster plain and simple... argue all you want.. but the iphone 4s is faster thanks to Jobs.. argue al you want fandroids.. lets move ahead.. should we... well lets wait for remix to calm down and finish his tantrum,

If your iPad 2 is stilling working well, there is no way to upgrade it to iPad 3. Technology is changing everyday. It's not necessary to spend extra money on the slightly changed new product. For me, dual cores nowadays are enough to me, but quad cores are welcomed only if they could have at least decent battery life.

Ah! What a pity!... the Apple A6 of the Ipad 3 it's only a faster arm cortex a9 dual core!... While that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 11.6 goes to debut a brand new Exynos 5250 Arm Cortex A15 at 2GHz dual core and a 2560x1600 screen resolution. I have very pity of Apple and their fans!...
