Photo displays 4.99 inch, 1080p panel expected for Samsung Galaxy S IV

A photo showing a timeline of AMOLED displays produced by Samsung showed off a 4.99 inch screen with 440ppi pixel density which just so happens to equal the specs expected on the Samsung Galaxy S IV; the picture shows how far Sammy has come from the WVGA 220ppi display introduced in the second quarter of 2010 to today's FHD panel...

at that high a resolution it wont matter if its pentile or anything else...believe me and as far as the S3 goes a 720p display on a phone is dense enough and there are luterally no pixelations in the S3...people have just become too picky and if given a chance would even want a 2160p screen on a 5 inch device...but ffor what?

i could see pixel everywhere in s3, that's my disappointment from s3, note 2 screen however is brighter and it's harder to see pixel from it

I'm thinking guys... is it technologically possible to have AirView without a sylus - just hovering over drop-down panels with our fingers to get the options?

It may sound crazy but it really isn't. We're quite accurate with touch controls nowadays and if you hover over a drop-down menu with a mouse it drops down anyway, so there is no distraction or anything. However to get the finger 1-5mm close and have AirView options - that would be just great.

Yeah, pentile won't matter at that resolution. But considering the fact that they are developing these new technologies, it is most probably going to be RGB.

not likely to happen I guess. See RGB uses same sizes of colors from blue to green and to red( meaning they are all in the same height and width) That's where the problem arises. BLUE oleds have shorter lifespan compared to the other two. Given that fact, they need to make the blue oled larger to compensate for the lifespan of the oled. That's why they didn't use RGB on the note 2. Instead, used an almost identical matrix yet would compensate with the lifespan.

This is what I think. I maybe wrong. :)

You did see me say "if I'm not mistaken" right? And yes I know its qhd now but its not 4.3" its 5 and the resolution is 960:544. And yes the specs are good ... they've always been .

OLED is simply a light generation device. It converts electricity into heat and light. AMOLED is simply a technology in which different OLEDs are arranged on a sheet of Thin Film Transistor (TFT) to create a display.

And if you are thinking, there is a counterpart of AMOLED which is known as PMOLED (Passive Matrix OLED). It creates a display without using a TFT layer.

They make the amoled screen for the HTC One S and Motorola RAZR . I think they should have used a QHD screen in the galaxy s2 instead of the WVGA screen . With QHD resolution is higher and you get a wide screen 16:9 aspect ratio .

Not to make it seem like you're being ganged up on, but the iphone didn't have good screen ppi until the iphone4 in 2010. Before that (3gs and older models) had a screen ppi of 163, which is pretty low. The retina display effectively doubled their screen ppi, but there has been little change in the iphone's screen since then, except for lengthening it for the iphone5.

I don't think there was a contridiction in his statement. I believe he was referring to pentile vs "classical" RGB. From what I understand, the blue pixel on an OLED has a shorter life and isn't as bright vs the red and green pixels. They used an extra green pixel for pentile to help boost the brightness and longevity.

The Note2 does not have a traditional RGB structure. They worked around the blue OLED issue by using a longer blue pixel in a perpendicular arrangement.

A "classical" RGB arrangment looks something like this: ||| (all pixels are equal in size)

Where the the Note2's RGB looks more like this: |= (where the blue vertical line is twice as large)
