PhoneArena Reader Awards 2011: Voting phase

It's that time of the year again, when we feel the need to sit down and think about all that has happened since last January. And once again, we're amazed to find out just how many incredible devices we've seen during 2011 - this has surely been the best year ever when it comes to smartphones and tablets...

S2 is the most worthy. Sales and Undefeated for months now.
I voted: s2, eee pad, jobs
jobs is worthy enough.
iPad 2... Seriously??? It's like a toy.

The ipad 2 is not a toy. It can go head to head with some of the best android tablets. It also makes MUCH more sales. And it practically created the table market. sounds like a pretty important toy to me.

Very true, even though I\'m sporting a Sensation 4G the GSII is the most worthy of all and also the DROID Razr.

I was truly saddened after hearing about Steve's untimely death, but we didn't see anything from him in the whole 2011. Yes he gets Person of the decade in my book and I know that he spent the whole year under treatment. Person of the year should be someone that gave the tech world the most in 2011 and I'm afraid Steve didn't do anything. NVIDIA's Huang made all the right calls this year and he gets my vote, followed by Bezos. And frankly I don't know what Ballmer is doing on that list, The funniest person of the year?!

I agree with u, Samsung Galaxy S2, its scooping Phone of the Year Awards. [Though I want my iPhone to win, FACT is, iPhone lost it's charm sometime last year and it's about time we realize that, remove the App Store, iPhone is nothing.....]

I'd rather see Matias Duarte on there over Andy Rubin. Matias has done more for Android this year.

i believe HTC will make the best ics device for 2012 & i hope that Google will make a galaxy nexus s in 2012 though im still contemplating on samsung being the new manufacturer of the nexus series & the iphone 4s will be sure to fade if they dont push the sale of the iphone 5 in 2012...im really excited about the ipad 3 though
71. LuisE24 posted on 22 Nov 2011, 23:40 1 0
I don't think Samsung will make the next Nexus. I think Google may choose LG or Sony for the next Nexus device. Google may also choose HTC again.

I am shocked that Elop was not included in the list?
20. snowgator posted on 22 Nov 2011, 07:20 3 2
Agree!! A strong contender, and as a WP supporter, I would have been in his corner. Strange PA left him off.
26. bluechrism posted on 22 Nov 2011, 08:36 7 0
completely agree. His decision in febuary to put Nokia behind Windows Phone will have (and is already having) huge impact on the industry. Don't get me wrong, by that i don't mean Windows PHone sales are through the roof or anything like that (besides, next year would be the time to judge that), but Nokia coming to windows phone gives the whole platform a shot in the arm. The huge numbers of developers and rapid expansion of the app store, wouldn't be so fast, and it certainly is a boost as well as a kick up the behind for HTC/Samsung's windows phone efforts. As much as people in the US say Nokia needed saving, there are also many that say Windows Phone needed it too and Elop's decision might have done that.
Also, I know it isn't going to win (partly because so few will have used it), and it wasn't released officially in north america/western euope, but the buzz around the Nokia n9 was huge, perhaps more so than around the lumia 800. The Nokia N9 should have been in the phone of the year list - The best mass market concept phone / platform experiment there will ever be, and I haven't read a single review where the reviewer didn't love the device (usually before warning people off it because it's a one off).
I expect the Samsung Galaxy SII to be phone of the year, and probably Jobs for Man of the year, but I think Elop would have run him close.
9. SpanishDeveloper posted on 22 Nov 2011, 06:46 2 9
Nokia Lumia 800 for the best phone of the year! :)
Even though its specs are no surprising, its design is lovely.

dude,i like the design....but windows platform needs to mature.

If the first poll question was most IMPORTANT device of 2011, I would have voted the T-Bolt for being the first LTE device and ushering in the next gen of wireless. It certainly couldn't be argued for the best, though. That was SGS2. All you need to do is check the reviews and the user reviews to see that.
I voted iPad 2, sorry Apple bashers. Again- look at the reviews and those who own it. It is a quality device, even if it isn't your cup of tea. 2012 may be a lot closer, though.
I could not vote for Steve Jobs, though. I respect the man, but it isn't a lifetime award, it was 2011, and Mr. Jobs didn't stand out in this calander year. I voted Dan Mead of Verizon. From the amazing game changer that was the LTE rollout, to the influence he wields on devices such as getting the iPhone and passing on the GS2, continued high marks on Verizon's customer service, taking sides in the Samsung/Apple lawsuits and even NOT taking sides in the AT&T bid on T-Mo, the man has led Verizon to the top and has been a HUGE influence on what is the future Mobile landscape.
15. clevername posted on 22 Nov 2011, 07:14 2 3
You have a great point in you're vote for mead. Personally I voted jobs because the iPad 2 continued tablet dominance, he wasn't afraid to break the mold with iPhone and iPod touch update schedules, and most importantly he took a computer company with minimal market share and pushed it to be the largest company on the globe by market cap.(not single handedly of course but he was CEO) , however, with the push for LTE, the demand for high end LTE phones to support it, and most importantly the insight to delay devices that proved to not be ready for consumers(I.e. Buggy) instead of trying to be first to market, Verizon has had a magnificent year and again, the credit should go to the CEO.
That said with the T-mobile buy out being such a power play, even if it falls through, de la Vega has turned heads and forced many hands just by announcing the idea. He shouldn't be dismissed as a runner up either.

i almost voted balmer so we could punch him some more.. lol.
if jobs doesnt win, id be very surprised. hard to beat even if he didnt die this year.

As a consumer skeptical of validity in the current tablet market, I am disappointed that the Acer Iconia did not make the poll. My skepticism is based in most part due to tablets not being able to fully replace PCs. However, the Acer Iconia not only has great specs, but also has many hardware connection ports more closely related to PCs that make it less dependant on PC link and intergration. I would consider this a more functional tablet over the others.
In casting a vote, I became biased and choose the Galaxy 10.1. Our company has integrated the Galaxy into our daily use. So this ultimately, had the role in my decision.
I chose Peter Chou from HTC due to his ability to not only create a quality product, but also because he was able to articulate customer's needs as well as wants, and implement them into their products.
As far as phones, this was tough. I love HTC and have been a huge supporter. However, I chose the Galaxy simply because Samsung recognized the success of the iPhone and capitalized on this success to make it more appealing as a viable choice for consumers. This essentially is how business works and I give Samsung top regards for scoring a win on the basics of business 101.

Business 101 is to shamelessly copy others products?

Capitalizing on someone's success is always good for the consumer and business market. It forces companies to work harder to compete on level ground and fine tune their products. Thus using ingenuity to attract customers.

I think Steve Jobs was Person of the Year last year. There wasn't a lot of innovative growth this year.
I say Rubin. The growth of Android this year has been incredible.

Why no Transformer Prime on tablets list? It will be out on december. That would take my vote.

duh! Transformer prime will compete with next year tablets not this year anymore

How can you even put HTC Rezound over HTC sensation considering the fact that Rezound only in the US and Sensation is available internationally and has been around for some months now!
36. azimullah posted on 22 Nov 2011, 11:48 2 0
I voted S2, Ipad 2 and Jobs. S2 is the best phone ever. Ipad 2 is apple product but it still has a huge collection of apps and a lot of developer support and i voted for jobs because he probably wont be in any list after this year.

My votes are in. It's telling that Apple is winning 2 of 3 categories even on an android troll dominated site.
