PhoneArena Awards 2012: Best Tablet

0. phoneArena 13 Dec 2012, 12:12 posted on

Tablets - they're getting pretty popular, aren't they? Just a couple of years ago, they were regarded mostly as pricey toys rather than gadgets that one actually needed. But as they are getting cheaper by the day and as the number of apps optimized for tablet use rises, more and more people now own one. But not all tablets are made equal, and it is our duty to inform you which ones are actually worth getting. In fact, today we'll tell you which are the best tablets that launched in 2012...

I don't think the Nexus 10 should be on top of the iPad 4, yet. 4.2 is still too unoptimized to grant the best performance for such a high density display. iPad is on top for now. However, as soon as Google releases that update... Nexus family will be on top again. Enjoy your victory in the large tablet race, Apple, it won't last much longer.

I see your point. But I would still take a n10 over an ipad 4 anyday.
In my honest opinion, invest in a n10 because the only con (lack of 10" hd apps) will be negated very soon. In fact your purchase of a n10 will help create such apps. So f**king buy it already!!! XD

So you either enjoy qn iPad right now, or you get a nexus 10 and wait probably for years to get half the ipads apps and developer interest...

You're exaggerating it a bit. It won't take "years". The time it will take for devs to update will be directly affected by how many people buy it. If a lot of people buy the Nexus 10, devs will update their apps to fit the Nexus 10 sooner, and since the Nexus family is rather popular, it will probably take a few months to get the full selection.

Either way, the Nexus 10 is still great. Would rather have it than an iPad, even though 4.2 isn't optimized fully and all the apps aren't available. That's my preference though, Android.

The thingt is the ipad when it first came out it had tintu unusable iphone apps that pushed developers to make better apps and they did(275k+apps). with windows 8 rt there is no apps olther than from the store : you can't use windowsphone's apps so now the have 30k tablet apps. while android, they choose to blow up phone apps witch can look good for apps with heavy content (like instagram witch is still a phone app in the ipad and looks better on android) but developers say" our apps work, not perfectly and not terribly, why would we bother optimizing them..."

For me it should be...

Best Full-Sized Tab:
1. Nexus 10
2. iPad 4
3. Note 10.1

Best Small-Sized Tab:
1. Nexus 7
2. Kindle Fire HD
3. iPad Mini

So, maybe there should be two categories - and also, BEST PHABLET category, too.

Nice list, but I think it should go like this:

Best Full-Sized Tab:
1. Nexus 10
2. iPad 4
3. Asus Transformer Pad Infinity

(The Surface would be included if it was cheaper)

Best Small-Sized Tab:
1. Nexus 7
2. Nook HD
3. Kindle Fire HD

Mostly agreed with your list. I'd take out iPad Mini and replace it with Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 though. Too bad it was banned in most European and northern america countries

I'd go with:

Best Full Size:
1. Note 10.1
2. iPad 4
3. Nexus 10

Best Small-Sized:
1. Nexus 7
2. Galaxy Tab 7.7
3. Kindle Fire HD

I can go with this. The surface could have also been thrown in instead of the ipad since it was well reviewed and is a new ecosystem with a neat keypad. The ipad gets in on name and popularity more than anything. The nexus devices are a pretty sizable upgrade in quality for android tablets as well as the "bang for buck" ratio with pricing/specs so they definitely deserve to be there.

Are those the two winners for the tablet that is the most overpriced and most overrated? I agree then.

phonearena u really showing ur true face now... what is best about ipad 4 to get 2nd place? i mean come on... its the same screen as ipad 3 and every other thing is the same except the new processor and that s**tty connector... how come u give it the 2nd place when there is actually nothing new from its older version and it gets smashed in every possible way from Nexus 10... really shame on u phonearena...
my picks and im pretty sure most of people here would agree to:
1- Nexus 10
2- Nexus 7
3- Asus Transformer Pad Infinity...

Not really, the iPad kills the Nexus 10 on the graphics department and has better games and tablet apps available for it. Otherwise Nexus 10 all the way.

Nexus 7 on the top...
I'm not so sure if it is a honest score from PhoneArena.

I'm sorry, I'm not trolling, but from the all the reviews I've read on PhoneArena, wasn't iPad Mini got the highest score review?

SO, I'm sorry for saying may be this score is just a formality to all of user, so the comment section didn't full of any offensive words?

It's because of the price/specs ratio. iPad mini just doesn't cut it at $329. If they included retina display, it might have.

I'm thorn between iPad4 and Nexus10. People, please advice. Sadly, in countries where PlayStore isn't available, Nexuses are a lot more expensive. When they are on the same price (16GB, WiFi only) at $500, would you recommend Nexus10 or iPad4?
