So, while you guys are having fun over at the PhoneArena Reader Awards 2011 post, we decided that we shouldn't just sit aside and watch, you know, we felt that we want to give our own awards to the best (or worse) products, technologies and achievements that have occurred during the year...

This is a discussion for a news. To read the whole news, click here

I don't know why they say phonearena is biased towards apple.. I like phonearena and its the main website I visit for news on cellphones and tabs.. I haven't found anything that proves conclusively that it's biased towards apple.. If you guyz think otherwise please tell me why..?

Why do I keep on seeing complaits about this article being bias towards the iphone. Not once did I see them praising the iphone in this article. Futhermore they praised a technology the iphone doesn't have and the other two they were late in 2011 to get. The only whiff of something that may have been a bit pro apple is the 1 line mention of icould. Ok lets be honost guys icould is very well synced within its ecosystem and the fact it costs money doesnt change that. It was revelant to their point and there is no reason they couldnt mention it. Otherwise this article was pro android throughout. Now onto what I wanted my post to be before dealing with the fanboys. My technology breathrough order.
1. LTE
2. 720p screens
3. Exynos dual core prossor

Even if it was true, I could not blame PhoneArena for liking the iPhone. I do not ever plan on owning one myself, but I must admit they work very well for what they are designed to do on the lesser (but not too much lesser) specs...

The Cloud, in general, is an amazing and super-useful technology... I will be happy as long as I do not have to rely 100% on the Cloud...

The dual-core processor? Meh...

LTE is not a bad choice. It is, after all, the first emerging worldwide standard to replace all other wireless standards. In 2020 or thereabouts, after GSM is discontinued, only CDMA and LTE, and maybe WiMAX, will still be around... and CDMA and WiMAX will both eventually go away as well... LTE-Advanced will likely reign supreme by 2030 as the one and only non-UMA air interface for every mobile device in the whole world, and will offer sufficient bandwidth to compete with land based solutions like cable and fiber-optic line.

If it was up to me... I would have put the Cloud first (as a foundational software concept), LTE second (as the clear air interface of the future), and something other than dual-core processors third... perhaps I might have picked, well... I can not think of anything else that has been a unique breakthrough this year off hand... so without any other choice in mind, I suppose I will have to say that the dual-core processor is a shoe-in for third place in my list, for lack of any better alternative.

Why does phonearena favor apple products. They always compare phones to the iPhone. Im tired of it! If I want to hear about the iPhone, I will go to TodaysiPhone.com. LTE has changed the way we see phones and I cloud just changed the way we see iPhones.

I'm with the others here. The 4S was such a non-event that it required mental acrobatics to find an Apple aspect to prop up for an "of the year" award. It was a spin-too-far however. The "cloud" may be fundamental to our phones' technologies, but it's been around for a while, it isn't really "there" yet, and just because Apple finally jumped on the bandwagon doesn't make it trans-formative. It's a lame thing to give the aware to. And not just garden-variety lame. I'm talking credibility-leeching lame.

Dual-core, LTE and big screens were all major evolutions that hit the smart phone market this year. Dual-core is cool, but translates into minor benefits except where software is specifically designed to take advantage of it. LTE completely reinvents the things that a phone can do. It is huge and everyone who has it can easily tell the difference. Bigger screens are also very cool, for those who don't mind the size, but screens over 4.3 are the only real new thing this year, and that's something of a niche market.

You say that LTE is too limited in deployment, but Verizon is up to what, 179 markets now? The other carriers don't really have it yet, but that's par for their course. Apple is on Verizon now, there's no excuse for them not to have it. But the smart-phone world is moving on. Sure, the 4S is a big deal, but only because of coattails. It's like a trust fund baby, flush in the success of those that came before, but contributing nothing. The fruits of that disappointment will become manifest in time. I'm sure the 5 will sell well as well, but by that time the iPhone's status as a niche product will be obvious to all. And this in spite of the efforts of the media to prop it up.

So it's a media conspiracy to uphold the iPhone. Fandroids are so funny. Desperate to rationalize why iPhone is the most advanced phone in the world.

Fact iPhone outsells every other phone even though it costs more.

It will continue to sell more until the economy tanks and people run out of money... then they will buy more Android phones than iPhones, until even the Android devices cost too much, and then they will buy old feature phones on Craigslist and eBay... and people like me will be so happy that we never bothered to waste our money on anything so cutting-edge.

Your beloved iPhone will never be inexpensive enough for me to be able to buy one. You may be happy about the idea, based on the last sentence I wrote, that you may have successfully found someone who you could make ashamed by the fact that they cannot be cool like you... but if you think that, then you have not followed the context here. I admit that the iPhone, in my own personal opinion, works best; however, I will never buy one, and I will not waste my money even if I ever do make enough money... someday... to buy Apple products. I will stick with my old junk, which I like tinkering around with more anyway.
