Today, the PhoneArena Awards of 2011 will honor the year's best cameraphone. And the rules are pretty straight-forward – for a device to be pronounced winner in today's category, it needs to be capable of taking excellent shots under a broad range of conditions

Haha... thanks remix! That says a lot, especially when I am not really aiming to please anyone. I try to just call it the way I see it... and sometimes the way I see things is difficult for others to take. I appreciate the solidarity, though.

Based on the opinions of the writers and the performance they have seen. Read the reviews on these devices. Heck, they had a whole write up on the tech of the iPhone 4S. Why do not think it should have won? And please save the "Apple is over rated" logic.

Good answer from snowgator... and remember that this is an award for the best camera phone, not the best overall phone. The OS and other performance factors are not a part of this award... this award is isolated to the camera/video-recording performance segment of the devices.

Go to Gsmarena they had a recent article wherein they compared the best 8mp shooters of 2011, there you would find an answer to your inquiry, also try viewing their comparative tools it helps. Although the difference is only noticeably when images are cropped or zoomed to the max.

So the HTC Vivid isnt even in this talk. Has a better apperture than the iphone, but all the fanboys flock to the boring ass iphone

It's about the camera not how boring the devise is to which I would agree, apparently the aperture of the vivid doesn't justify its photo quality. The iPhone 4s's photo processing is actually top notch thus giving them an upperhand within the 8mpix crowd to date. . .

i agree the iphone might have the camera but the HTC mytouch 4g slide is very close to it along with the htc amaze

It is true when doing side by side comparisons the GS II has won on most other sites against the iPhone 4S, but I did expect this outcome on phonearena.

As someone mentioned earlier, there are a few in Japan with higher quality cameras... namely the Panasonic LUMIX line. They have resolution of up to 13.2 MP and use SLR quality lenses. Luckily, Panasonic has finally agreed to start importing their devices to North America and Europe in 2012.

It's ironic to see how 2010 phone (read N8) is better then anything made in 2011... but.. that's it.. and if N8 have best camera, it should be nominated again and win again! Simple... If Obama will be nominating again, that would be crime? :D
Ferrari orPorsche can not be racing because they won already once?! Hahaha....

It's another story if Phone Arena have something against N8/Nokia but that's their decision.

I dont think that the GsII had a good camera, I think the experia arc S would be the 1st runner up, because the camera in the iphone 4s uses the xmore bravia engine used by Sony Experia Arc S., I think the camera of Experia Arc S., is much better than SgII. Samsung is a crap company.

Hmm... Nokia was say, "It doesn't 12MP, but it's Carl Zeis". Not enough?
Maybe N8 not has 1080p, but the camera printout still better than three of all..
