Petition started to ask Google to make apps for Windows Phone

0. phoneArena 27 Dec 2012, 22:40 posted on

One of the most annoying things about using Windows Phone for many users is that Google has absolutely refused to support the platform and as such has only made one app for the OS, a Google Search app, which is sub-par to be kind. But, now users are trying to take the matter into their own hands by starting up a petition to ask Google to support Windows Phone by making more apps...

This is a discussion for a news. To read the whole news, click here

If these people truly want google apps, they should go to Android. If only Microsoft could just suck up their pride and ask google nicely to make apps for them, it'd be a much more simple plan to execute, but no, for the select of trying to sell windows phone 8, they keep insisting in trash-talking the competition. While ios is in competition with Android, they've never resorted to trash talking about the platform itself, just about some of the phones down the latter for the sake of sales. It's a matter of principle and mutual respect and a petition for applications, idk, the thought just comes off as slightly pathetic.

Google is not same company it was two three years ago it has become arrogant and hypocrite and the reason for this is MS is getting royalties from android manufacturers and making more money with it than google.

The reason for Google to support IOS is because Apple is not competing with Google's services while MS is with Bing, outlook, SkyDrive, Bing maps, browser, desktop OS etc.

So you suggest people who already bought a WP go buy another Android?
Google's reason for not making apps for WP is because they don't see a need and their users using WP. So Google said that if you use WP you don't use Google service?
Who is sucking up now?
Apple respects Google? Why do they try to dump all Google's services then?
iOS users uses Google's apps all most all the time, do they need to use Android.
MS never said they don't need Google, they compete with Google, just like others platform does. Google SAID they won't make apps for MS. Who have less mutual respect here?
Sorry if my opinions are wrong, but I disagree with what you said.

Did you hear about how Apple and Google teamed up to buy $525 million worth of patents off of Kodak about a week or two ago? They've gotten professional opinions about the matter. As it turns out, that even though they are competitors, they share an "adult relationship", meaning that there is some kind of respect there, or at least a mutual sense of professionalism. That said, Apple is going through patent suits with manufacturers, not google. So keep in mind, if Apple can remain at a neutral standing with Google, then there's still hope for Ms to get their hands on some google apps. The problem is that their CEO Steve Balmer talks too much sh*t and is a arrogant prick, as most CEO's are as of this day in age.

Microsoft is looking for a leg up plain and simple...For alot of us (android users) it doesnt seem like something we should just jump on right away.....sorry

"So Google said that if you use WP you don't use Google service?"

"Who is sucking up now?"

"Apple respects Google? Why do they try to dump all Google's services then?"

Maybe Google feels as if they already have one company trying to use them every chance they get and it would be HIGHLY unwise to allow another to do so!

Sorry microsoft but i guarantee you alot of android users are uneasy about this move.........Maybe they can work something out but we'll have to see

Just because Android is an open platform doesn't mean they are forced to make all their apps for every platform. I'm hoping that Google starts keeping their best apps for Android.

An example - I would like something like GarageBand for Android, but we don't see apple jumping to share it with Android now do we?

I have to agree with big.e. Windows Phone users should have done the research to know there are no Google apps going in. If your life is dominated by Google applications then you had the opportunity to pick two other phone platforms (both of which are superior IMO).

I understand why people don't feel it's fair that Google won't spread the love, but Microsoft offers directly competiting applications on their devices. And I don't mean simply maps... I mean entire email suites and business apps. These guys are DIRECT competitors; not simply in the cellphone space but the application and business space as well. The last thing Google likely wants to do is A) spend resources to support a platform with a minimal user base and B) give more users a reason to buy a Windows Phone device.

Sorry guys. it's harsh, but you had a chance when your contract ended to pick another platform. You can't whine about the lack of support after the fact. Microsoft has their own map and emails services. Invest in those.

I've said this before Google is not cool taking this path on the other side looks like Google is an Apple ass kisser developing good apps for IOS even better than androids how do you explain that? Have you tried Google maps for IOS lately? Works even better than android version! Sure they make the most money off IOS but there's a lot of potential in Windows Phone as well, so Google stop being a.. And give the goodness to everyone is oppeness your philosophy??

Microsoft needs to go find there own Devs and create there own App Store since they wanted to take on the mobile world and even put on a display there phones were faster than any android.

I think they should petition MS to drop fees for ActiveSync and other propriety technologies required to allow Google's and MS services work with each other first.

But customers are always right : WP is not viable w/o Google.

WP users can always use Google services in browsers.

b-c Google offers their services for free people tend to think it's natural that Google should do that everywhere.

The truth is Google is a business and a strong WP ecosystem is not in their interests.

My gmail syncs in the ME hub, youtube is here, i can sync my google calenders with outlook then outlook with my wp, plus i can sync many online calenders, bing translate is great, plus it's offline and has augmented reality that translates in realtime through the camera, OFFLINE! I just point to a text and it translates. Not only is bing maps good but I have nokia maps, OFFLINE. I hardly use google plus, all my friends are either on viber or whatsapp and skype... When it's all said and done... I dont miss google services at all. I prefer the OFFLINE experience I get with my lumia 920. I honestly never thought I could do with google but here I am

That's true. Google services are overrated and have became so universal that very less people even bother to take a look at other alternatives. Actually if you hit the right spot you can find better services than Google's, just like you mentioned.

I'm not saying that Google needn't release their products on WP, but if they are releasing on iOS, they they should do the same for WP. Or don't release at all on any competitor OS at all. They should make one decision.

The basic fact is, Google sees stronger competition in WP than the iOS. WP is threat to Android, greater than the iOS. That's why the decision imo.

I think you are partly right here, MS threatens Google (not only Android) while Apple does not.

MS license WP to OEMs so it will compete with Google for OEMs, Apple has different business model of a niche player. Bing also threatens Google core business: search.

The threat is very small now but helping it grow is not a wise thing to do.

It has less than 1000 meaning that: 1. this is not a news story because it's not a major issue. 2. It is those select few of "power users" from android that obviously dont want to adopt a new ecosystem. I dont use google drive that often, I would prefer dropbox but I have 25gb of FREE skydrive. For google calendar there is outlook. For google maps there is bing maps and nokia maps. Bing translate is awesome. Two words... Actually three: offline augmented reality. Google is not missed on wp. Those 700 signatures should just go back to android if they wont even use wp alternatives.

I can't stop laughing everytime I see android fanboys like michael H complaining about the lack of data-mining google services on Windows Phone. This would be a problem if Microsoft didn't offer a decent alternative, but in most cases the MS solution is actually better than the google option: SkyDrive, Outlook.com (with Mail for Exchange and Calendar Syncing that actually work), Office Mobile, Office 365, Nokia Maps with offline turn-by-turn navigation, MetroTube, Internet Explorer 10.
I think the real issue here is that google knows fully well its users are not loyal to the android platform, so why give them a reason to make the switch to Windows Phone.

Nokia maps and Google Maps come head to head on iOS:

- Nokia never cracked top 1000
- Google instantly became No. 1 after return.

On big things Nokia maps is ok, but when it comes to details it sucks badly. And details are what people need, not gerneral stuffs.

WP have similar apps but the difference is quality, that's why all WP phones cannot sell w/o heavy discounts.

Nokia maps are good for offline Navigation and offer their coverage in many more countries than Google maps.

I'm not sure what google has that's so magical and out of this world that people need them. MS has search, maps, calendar, office, etc., all sync on WP easily and with simplicity. All that is need from google is YouTube, not a dedicated app, but the API for WP devs like lazyworms who built metrotube. Apparently Google makes trouble for these devs 2-3 times a year where google makes changes to YouTube therefore making 3rd party YouTube apps useless.

MS rule when it comes to enterprise, that's why Andoid still has to pay fees for ActiveSync to access Outlook.

But MS clearly sees the danger from Google on this front. The key for enterprise is security for the data and easy sharing and Google Docs and Drive offer just that.

I think the key here is creativity and I expect Google to be a great option next to MS Office.
