In China, people are taking the old catchphrase, “Fake it till you make it,” to a whole new level. Several merchants are offering services that add the famous “send from my iPhone” line to the end of messages send through QQ...

If ever we needed further proof that iphones are viewed and bought in stupid frenzys for fashion statements,the teenage need for public acceptance, to look 'cool' and/or for the look at me "I've arrived" "Ive got an iphone" speeches then this messaging tools proves so.

What's appealing for them is not the iphone on itself but the price they paid for it. They don't actually care if it's overpriced or not, they just want everybody to know that they had the money to buy it. Priced any other phone twice its real price and promote it as a must have, prestigious handset. Same thing will happen! But I do agree it's stupid.

Confirmation that the iPhone is more of a status symbol than a smartphone. I still think its a good phone, but buying an iPhone seems more about what other people think then about getting the best phone.

Really can't imagine why, but that is their right. I think the Acura RDX is a really nice truck, but if given a choice...I would pick a more feature packed truck like the Toyota Sequoia or Honda Pilot. The luxury badge or the appearance of luxury doesn't always mean its the best.

In China, people who cant afford an iPhone pay a small monthly fee to fake people into thinking they own one. In the US, people who cant afford to own an iPhone....well they just go buy one anyway.

I remember one time when the Facebook app for ipad, iphone and android generally made a "via mobile" tag in every FB post in the app (instead of the "via iphone", "via ipad", "via android" tag), iphone and ipad users loudly protested this, until fb decided to bring it back.
God, even the "via...." tag in facebook matters to most people! it seems that in most parts of the world, especially in asia, owning an ipad or iphone is a status symbol!

It's so easy to pass judgement of the Chinese population when you don't live as they do.
If adding something so simple can give them the upper hand while looking for a job due to the perception of wealth, I'd say it's well worth the $1.

Iam a tech freak, but iproducts never ever appeal to me. Admit that iproducts are stylish and got immense flaunt values, in china particularly. Ive come across many youngsters in china who want iphone so badly that theynwould spend almost 5 times their monthly income to get one. If apples gonna spend some bucks, pleas e be a bit more generous to Foxconn who will in turn improve the lives of those who work round the clock to assemble your iproducts. Very apparently , The chinese got distorted sense of value (if not all of them, at least considerable portion of them), and there is a minoriry of them fancy that US sending the Seals to liberate them. Ummm, iam getting too political here. Final words apple, be nice to your humble suppliers, nothing wrong being the richest corporation, but it makes hell lot of sense too to be more considerate both overseas and domestic.
