The Pentagon's Defense Information System Agency has finally approved an Android smartphone and it is the out-of production Dell Streak that has been selected for use by the U.S. Military; the device is approved for secure unclassified communications...

Not that I care at all about what devices are approved by the pentagon but why the streak? More than likely because of its five incher lol. You wont catch me on 5 inch 2.2 dell phone. Im all over the razr :P

If they wanted a five-incher, the better choice would've obviously been the Galaxy Note.

Well, if you think about it, the Streak mirrors the government nicely: bulky, cumbersome, outdated, ineffectual, looks good in theory but sucks in execution, and the people in charge blame everyone else for the problems they create. (See: Michael Dell bashing Android).

dude without our government what type of country would we be... there is not other country in the world with a government like ours, and although sometimes we make bad decisions, cough obama cough democrats cough, we would be nothing without our goverenment.. and yes its outdated because it has worked for over 200 years!

Dude. I could go on a whole diatribe why the entire model of a state sucks to begin with. However, that would be incredibly off topic and I don't want to give everyone another thing to flame each other over. :)

This evaluation certification process at DISA probably started 2 years ago when Barry became POTUS. At the time, the Dell Streak had the largest available screen size for an Android device (and Dell is a major supplier to the DoD). DoD really likes cheap things that are secure (when you buy in 1m+ quantities, price matters, especially when your overall budget is going to be shrinking). The important thing is that DISA has validated the security model of Android. Now a non-BBOS camel's nose has gotten under the DoD approved handset tent. The process of up-reving the approval for newer versions of Android is much quicker.
One more nail in the coffin for RIM, though....

I an an android user and fan.. but being logical about the Pentagon, there is a very simple reason fit their choice. The open os can be use easily and create new apps odd their own design... even sold to the public I'd desired; rather than dealing with the red tape of Apple and complying with their demands. However this brings up two thoughts: 1) do you really want a device now deigned by corporations and programmed by the military? 2) if somehow a military grade application coats the lives of government officials, military movement or confidential documents, apple fans will claim superiority. That is, until apple falls victim and shown to be at fault for a similar case.

Guess WHAT, Apple will win OS on the phone/table but want to become the market and get rid of all competitors at once too bad. For IFane boy/Apple ....... want to destroy(thermor nuclear war) Android, you are just OFFICIALLY pick a loosing battle.

This is all elementary, dear Watson. You see, the government tends to be a little particular when it comes to suppliers. This is particularly true in cases with data devices. To keep it short and sweet, they buy from companies that actually produce the equipment here in the U.S. Can you say security risk?

Why the hell would the Pentagon choose the Dell Streak? And it only have 2.2 Froyo. They should of chosen the Galaxy Tab or the XOOM. With all those million of dollars they have they could of at least gotten a HONEYCOMB tablet. not the crappy Dell Streak.
