Pantech Jest officially on sale with Verizon, cuteness and all
Last week we wrote about the upcoming Pantech Jest that we saw in a leaked Verizon spec sheet. The phone was supposed to go on sale on Thursday, but it is already available on Verizon's website for free with a two-year contract.

The blue Jest is actually pretty cute with its small QWERTY slider form factor. It is a feature phone that emphasizes on messaging and social networking through a dedicated My Messaging key. Navigation is done with an optical directional pad, and the camera is the meager 2MP.

The Pantech Jest obviously targets the teenage crowd and its tendency to write insane amounts of texts, IMs and status updates. It looks well suited for that with its youthful looks, slider keyboard in black and orange, and dedicated buttons for messaging, music and snapshots.

Reminds me a little of the PALM PIXI with a smaller screen

more accurately would be placed as a reminder or relative of the vzw blitz.

I think it reminds me of the Palm Pre a little, with the Blackberry style trackpad. I was suprised how much this reminded me of my Palm pre, and the scroll is very similar to my Husbands BB Curves trackpad.

I find it weird that phones like this just come out without much notice but any smart phone has a billion leaks and is hyped up like crazy. I wonder if companies do that on purpose.

thats because no one cares about these kinds of phones. unless its like a top notch feature phone or a smart phone... its not going to attract much attention. besides. this form factor is so played out. they already had the blitz which is practically the same phone by a different manufacturer. its not worth noting really... until its released and thats just a quick fyi...

Same manufacturer as the blitz, so similar but a few notable improvements. What makes this phone worth paying attention to is the video recording and playback. That's all but missing in the Verizon nondata lineup. The rival doesn't count. People get forced into the env3 because they want to take send and receive videos, so this phone is a welcome addition.

Does every new phone need to be a smartphone? I don't know about you but I find it fairly difficult to sell a Droid or a BlackBerry to a 12 year olds parents...unless their spoiled little b*tches!

News flash: some folks just want something to make a call and not get nickel and dimed every time the dog poots. Look up from your touch screen and get a life. Your family will thank you for it.

I just came to verizon after having a Iphone 3g, do I miss all my features on my iphone yes, but I have to say, I decided to take a break from smartphones for a little while, and decided to go with this (between this and the blitz) and I liked this more when it came to brightness, color, sound etc. So it's not necessarily for kids, and for those who want to call this a piece of sh"t because you HAVE to have your smartphones..news flash, I'm saving hundreds of dollars more a year then you on cellular bills, and spending it on things way more fun then phones.

I will never ever own a pantech again. I purchased two before they were recalled six weeks after releasing. I did not know that they were recalled and both phones went through two batteries before I tossed them. I got these for myself and my son because we did not need a data package. You get what you pay for I guess...cheap cheap cheap. after four months I purcased two lg cosmos: one regular and one touch. Since my husband has a BB we did not need to have a smartphone with data package and the two cosmos' are perfect for texting and talking. Yes, no video camera, but hey the FLIP is a fun camera so who needs this on a phone?
