I had a similar issue on my HTC Hero the other day. Thank God, after few minutes (... 10 to be exact) i finally got my info back, contacts and all. I guess Google is the only company to rely on holding your information. LoL

The main issue comes from the fact that the phones coming from Sprint and/or Palm as replacements only have the 1.1 firmware, which had issues syncing both with Exchange and Palm Profile. The 1.2.1 update, as some of you may remember, fixed this issue, but it's not doing any good as long as the phones coming in don't have the software to fix the issue. Still hoping that this gets resolved. Personally I've always recommended using a Google account instead of the Palm Profile system, if for no other reason, than just because it's a more mature and more reliable system. Palm's is still practically brand new and still working out the bugs.
