I can't wait to see how this shakes out, if they get it in January and how much they take away from it to fit thier other smartphones

I am excited to get the Pre but lets make this perfectly clear this phone it will not take the spot of the curve or the storm or more than likely an other device. We have some exciting new smart phones coming out and this is one of those now. Another blow for Sprint. By the way for those Sprint fan boys out there saying we cripple our devices this may have been true YEARS ago but I ask you to name one within the last year that has been crippled because there hasn't been one.

how bout every HTC device that has ever came to verizon!

HTC Touch Pro

the touch pro was crippled.

They are definitely right. Almost all of the HTC phones VZW has gotten have been a little below the feature and memory line of the other carriers. The XV6600, XV6700 & XV6800 were the only ones to not really be affected and even the XV6800 was crippled compared to sprints Rev. A Version.

23. brettconnect posted on 10 Jun 2009, 13:57

IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN TOO. THE XV6175 HAS BEEN READY TO LAUNCH FOR A YR NOW AND VERIZON KEEPS DELAYING AND REMOVING APPS FROM THE DEVICE. BY THE TIME IT LAUNCHES IT WILL BE OBSOLETE. AT LEAST HTC IS NOT REBRANDING FOR VERIZON ANYMORE. THEY MAKE THE BEST PHONES AND I HATE WHEN VERIZON OR AUDIOVOX REBRANDS IT. WE WILL SEE IF VZW WILL MAKE GOOD ON ITS OPEN APP OPEN DEVICE PLATFORM AND STOP DUMBING DOWN SMART PHONES.

its true that verizon tends to cripple phones when we release them on verizon cuz the verizon ppl are control freaks and its unfortunate cuz if they werent control freaks than we wouldve had the iphone a long time ago!

26. sinfulta posted on 10 Jun 2009, 14:27

The XV6800 had a software flash that upgraded it to the Rev A. and unlocked the BT and GPS. So technically at the beginning yes, but not anymore.

VZW's Touch Pro isn't actually the touch pro... it is the Touch Raphael. VZW chose an inferior model, then didn't cripple an already good device.

If it's true, it's good for Palm. They need all the business they have get. But I don't believe a blog on WSJ is enough to get everyone excited. Until Palm comes out and says we have the Pre on Verizon, then those on VZW should get excited. And if the Pre gets more popular, RIM should be mad. I would be if I was the CEO at RIM. I would think I would be VZW's main smartphone. That's why they got the Storm exclusively in the US. If that happens, RIM should make the Storm2 for Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile and send it out in the Q4 to Q1 of 02010 for all.

11. Verizon Guy posted on 10 Jun 2009, 11:39

You seriously think Blackberry or Verizon for that matter let the Storm go to a second tier carrier like Sprint? Do you really think Sprint has the customer base, network coverage, or the deep pockets to get the Storm from Verizon when they have sold as many as they have.....good luck.... BTW the Pre looks cool but lets not kid ourselves here the Storm is still the superior device for the capabilities and if the rumors are true about the Storm 2 it will even be better. I have to be honest, I like the sure press.... its not for everyone but I like it.

14. Keepin_Real posted on 10 Jun 2009, 12:03

My point is if the Pre sells very very on Sprint, and all of a sudden its on Verizon, that may hurt the Storm2 sales. I know that there are some who love their storm but I know users who loathe it. And if RIM is going to go all out on the Storm2, they should get FIRST priority. I am not a VZW sub that's my view. That should be VZW's feature Device. BUT have say, if the Pre comes to VZW and with momentum (popularity). My view is that the game just changed for the Storm2 if the Pre lands on VZW. Now not saying put the Storm2 on just Sprint. If there is no exclusive deal with the Storm2, what is stopping RIM from releasing it on all carriers.

i love the storm too. the people who hate on it have never used one intensively!! therefore they go off the negative reviews and make stupid assumptions.

24. Keepin_Real posted on 10 Jun 2009, 14:02

Just like those who say the iPhone sucks and don't own one for more than 5 minutes? So if I understand it right, those cannot say it sucks? Come on now. People's opinion are their own. Using something 5 mins or 5 months is still their opinion. There is no time frame to judge something. Sorry if the average user is not as thorough. I myself give something time before I say it sucks. But I am not going to JUMP on someone cause they say it sucks and have no extensive experience using it. I do respect people's opinion when they tell me it sucks no matter what I think.

33. Kiltlifter posted on 11 Jun 2009, 16:41

LOL ... keep pretending the storm is good... I think that is a really good idea gone horribly wrong. The Pre will do well. It think it will have more hype and a waaaay better UI than any RIM device. Blackberry UI is rediculously boring. The good thing about it is it makes the device usable by nearly every moron out there who thinks they are "cool" or "tech Savvy" because they own a "hi-tech" phone (if the blackberry can even be considered hi-tech). I hope the Pre blows RIM out of the water.

34. jherz6 posted on 11 Jun 2009, 17:28

Yes lets keep it real its already been leaked that the pre AND the storm 2 aka the Odin will be released by vzw Which will if rumors are true make the storm 1 obsolete, however that remains to be seen. As far putting the storm 2 on sprint exclusively or otherwise Sprint in haning on by a thread so why would anyone give an exclusive to them. Rim will not release the Storm 2 with other carriers for the same reason Apple didnt release upgraded versions of the iphone to other carriers, which may cahnge next year.

3. Raiderjoe posted on 10 Jun 2009, 09:02

It might be true who knows, palm needs all the business they could get. I got the pre, it's a great phone and I'm very happy with it.

4. rehnhart posted on 10 Jun 2009, 10:08

it would be good for Palm and Verizon, bad for Sprint and possibly bad for Verizon customers who will probably get a locked down, crippled version of the Pre.

6. chupum posted on 10 Jun 2009, 10:15

I have a question. I don't really know what it means for Verizon to "cripple" a phone anymore. So far, Verizon HAS kept its promise to unlock the GPS function on, I think, most, if not all, of their smartphones. So what is there left to "cripple" on their smartphones? Thanks to anyone who can help out with this question.
