Owners report that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is plagued by random reboots

0. phoneArena posted on 16 Jan 2012, 11:06

Already, we’ve reported about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and its maddening volume control issue back in November, but this time around, it seems yet another issue is plaguing the venerable device. Although it apparently seems to be more widespread with the GSM...

And here comes the next round of issues for the GNex.

34. thisISnotNEWS posted on 16 Jan 2012, 13:53 8 14

where are all the gnex fanboys NOW? harking about the gnex being the "IT" phone, the greatest- the one and only... well I got this to say HAHAA

first the phone had an embarassing camera quality

the gpu on that thing is equally embarassing: I tried to tell you all but people were like "NOPE the powerVR 540 was awsome" yeah back 2 years ago it was.... dum tha dum

the screen while 720 was a inferior tech using pentile IDC what resolution an inferior screen is inferior

another thing" that ext speaker... well lets just say it's NOT that great and thats being kind

I knew that the ICS was full of bugs because that piece of software was rushed like crazy. People than said the stupidest thing ever "I like new phone where theres bugs so it could work itself out overupdates" WTF??? have fun with the rebooting on you in the middle of whatever your doing.

hey wondering if people are still saying that gnex is still the "IT" phone especially when its unusable and plague with even more problems. Hey that should make a comercial out of the problmes gnex has, it would be quite funny.

Not even worth a response.

Thumbs down.

44. thisISnotNEWS posted on 16 Jan 2012, 15:26 6 3

so are you saying that those things I mention are not true:

the camera suks

the gpu suks

the ext speaker suks

the pentile suks

and ICS has a lot of problems

if any of these are not facts and are made up please feel free to comment but just thumbing down means your an id1ot and a blind fanboy. iamcc i'm looking at you

45. iamcc posted on 16 Jan 2012, 15:47 4 4

I think the camera is great. It takes pictures faster than any phone i've ever owned and I just press and shoot I don't even have to focus (if you want I can post pictures).

I don't play games on my phone so I can't speak for the gpu but I don't notice any lag or delay for any on screen animations.

The external speaker is definitely quieter than i'd like for listening to music or watching YouTube videos but not only would I disagree that it "suks" but it doesn't suck either.

The pentile display doesn't bother me one bit. The phone visually is more impressive than any other device i've used including the iPhone4S.

I have had absolutely zero problems with ICS. To back this up, my girlfriend wanted to get the RAZR and not the Nexus. I insisted she get the Nexus because I believe it's a better phone and she has time and time again let me know that she is going to try and find anything she doesn't like to justify going to the RAZR. Tomorrow is her last day to decide and she has absolutely no intention of switching because (much to her dismay) she has not found a single issue to complain about and her phone is bone stock.

None of those things you mentioned are facts and yes some of them are made up.

I am not a blind fanboy.

Good day.

No, I think he's saying that you are full of yourself:

"I tried to tell you all but people" yes, thanks for being the Messiah, now go up on a mountain and contemplate your navel for awhile. Or better yet, just shut up.

48. bobnnate posted on 16 Jan 2012, 17:23 3 3

first of all i have a gnex and the screen is better than any other phone out there,as for games, i have no lag, and for reboots, ive had no problems. and perhaps you forgot it is the first ics device, and first total software base phone. maybe you should keep reading biased opinions online some more and keep bringing them here

53. thisISNotnews2 (banned) posted on 16 Jan 2012, 18:13 3 2

I guess you and imacc just have low standards but what ever blind fanboys will be BLIND FANBOYS!

50. sprockkets posted on 16 Jan 2012, 17:39 2 3

Yes, like how apple couldn't get DST to work properly, TWICE. Or battery issues. Or issues being slow on older device. Or issues with the vibrator on the 4S.

Dude, grow up. Every device has issues. The rest of your post is just rambling nonsense.

This very site debunked your stupid Pentile crap.

"I knew that the ICS was full of bugs because that piece of software was rushed like crazy."

Now you are begging the question. Let's also just ignore the fact that ICS is just Gingerbread + the phone side and that is been in development for over a year.

58. sprockkets posted on 16 Jan 2012, 19:08 3 1

Oh, yeah, forgot about the proximity sensor issue? You know, the one that broke the perfectly working iphones with the new OS? That took 2 updates to fix?

Apple is no better than anyone else, and you pay more for them. Can't forget their failing time machines, yellowing screens, flickering video cards, SATA issues or anything else they suffer.

63. Iambutone posted on 16 Jan 2012, 23:28 1

why is it that when someone says anything bad about a particular android device NOT all android device the arguments comes back to the iphone. The troll who started this flame didn't even mention the iphone so all of you smarta$$ had to bring it up??? as far as his statements go some are actually true and not one of you have disputed any of it. You all just went on blabing about other nonsense. So it makes you guys look even dumber!

67. sprockkets posted on 17 Jan 2012, 15:01

What, you think he's a WP7/Symbian/Meego fan? Those people don't act like that. Only apple losers are that rabid.

I don't have time to dispute all his ramblings - why don't you just read the review on this very site stating that the camera is just fine, but not iphone4s level, or that the speakerphone is not loud but not distorted, or about the screen issue here

I feel like thisISnotNEWS made 8 accounts so he could get 8 thumbs up on his post. I can see no reason why anyone would thumbs up such an ignorant post. Not only is your information skewed and incorrect, but your use of language (not only spelt poorly) is completely childish. Please go home.

66. jamrockjones posted on 17 Jan 2012, 13:13

Ya, but everyone was freaking out, saying that they needed to release the phone and we can deal with the issues, so people should just stop complaining.

4. iamcc posted on 16 Jan 2012, 11:18 4 4

I don't have any random reboots on either mine or my girlfriends but occasionally I get the "sleep of death" where I will lock the phone and can't wake it up without pulling the battery.

I think that's related to my underlocking/undervolting I've been messing around with but definitely could be something else, who knows for sure.

6. gallitoking posted on 16 Jan 2012, 11:39 2 13

of course here in PA will have some Nexus owners saying that they never have any issues,.. bla bla bla... good for them , but that wont make the problem go away....see CC already started with his story on him and his GF... we get it dude you in in candy land

8. iamcc posted on 16 Jan 2012, 11:47 2 4

I didn't say I never have issues. I said I haven't had any random reboots.

That said, I haven't had any issues other than the sleep of death thing.

If you look onwww.droid-life.com they did a poll and roughly 65% of the people said they are not having random reboots... so maybe i'm just part of the lucky 65%.

10. protozeloz posted on 16 Jan 2012, 11:51 5 2

Saw the poll now is around 70% but he does not care about that at all. He is here to press the hate button

Edit : switching fast

5. doubler86 posted on 16 Jan 2012, 11:37 7 3

I've never had a problem with mine. Best phone out in the market, with by far the best OS. I can't wait till my tablet gets the upgrade to ICS.

9. iamcc posted on 16 Jan 2012, 11:48 2 2

Yeah I installed a leaked ROM of ICS on my GT10.1 and the thing flies now... I can't wait for the official release.

39. dman5400 posted on 16 Jan 2012, 14:15 1

Same here no problems with mine either

43. iamcc posted on 16 Jan 2012, 15:11

Which one did you use? My browser was force closing so I went back to 3.2

7. c.hack posted on 16 Jan 2012, 11:44 4 11

Welcome to Android. I suffered with daily random reboots on a Droid X and X2 until patches were released months later. By the time an Android phone is stable its obsolete.

11. som posted on 16 Jan 2012, 12:00 3 11

Samsung Nexus cheap plastic phone is getting cheaper with Google bugs or Samsung hardware bugs, who's know?

13. shnibz posted on 16 Jan 2012, 12:07 5 3

Hmmm that sucks. I have had mine since the 3rd day of its release and never have had this problem (knock on wood)

15. jinwons posted on 16 Jan 2012, 12:20 5 3

This is grossly exaggerated. I never had random reboot on My nexus. It's been the most stable android phone that I ever used. Any issues will be addressed quicker than any other androids.

23. Hallucinator posted on 16 Jan 2012, 12:56 3 1

Just because it hasn't happened to you does not mean it is grossly exaggerated. Atleast that's what all the Android fanboys say when it's a Apple problem.

16. Ric1511 posted on 16 Jan 2012, 12:24 5 2

I've had the Gnex since Christmas Eve, and I have experienced every problem reported. Repeated switching from 3G to 4G for no apparent reason(happening as I type this), volume, slow screen orientating, rebooting, sleep of death, etc. Yet, there is no other phone I would rather have on Verizon right now. Rezound is nice, but not for me. I'm waiting for an update, and if it is still screwy after that this thing is going on eBay and I'll be upgrading to the next best thing that comes out.

20. Cwebb posted on 16 Jan 2012, 12:44 3 2

Just take it to Verizon and have them mess with it. Its probably a defect with your phone in particular

24. Ric1511 posted on 16 Jan 2012, 13:01 1 1

I suppose a new Nex couldn't hurt. ;)

17. DROIDX0430 posted on 16 Jan 2012, 12:32 4 4

Read my earlier post.....this is not only on the Nexus......its happened on every Android Ive had...D12&3...X1 and 2...Thunderbolt..charge..fascinate and bionic..its the OS. and nothing else...HTC..MOTOROLA. SAMSUNG...LG..cant all be wrong on this....u cant give me a nexus

25. iamcc posted on 16 Jan 2012, 13:06 1 1

You've had a lot of Androids...

I had the D1, X1, Thunderbolt and now Nexus and have never really had problems with random reboots except for at the end of my DX life before it got Gingerbread.

19. McLTE posted on 16 Jan 2012, 12:40 4

Plagued? Hardly!

I think since I've had my Nexus I've seen one random reboot. I wish I could have said the same for my original D1.. that rebooted far more often. Not really a big deal IMO, it's far more frustrating when the phone locks when trying to do something and you have to pull the battery. That hasn't happened yet.

Another case of over-reporting?!?

21. Rawrzellers posted on 16 Jan 2012, 12:46 3 1

I have yet to see any of these problems on my Galaxy Nexus. The only problem I have had is the battery life but even to me that's whatever cause I'm usually always around a wall outlet. Never have I had a random reboot or volume issues.

22. Alantef posted on 16 Jan 2012, 12:49 3 1

the two months i've had it.....3 times...

The "source" of this article is BGR. They sourced the article from a 4 page forum thread. Don't look too far into this "issue"

29. rockstarlive posted on 16 Jan 2012, 13:21

I get random reboots from my DX, even when I turn it off, it still turns on. lol

I assume its HUGE amount of traffic. I mean there is like over a million Andoird phones.

30. jsoliz1985 posted on 16 Jan 2012, 13:25

I have been the proud owner of a Galaxy Nexus since launch day and thus far had issue only with the volume but it was quickly remedied with the installation and use of volume+. I hope that with time I continue to be free from issues.

32. DROIDX0430 posted on 16 Jan 2012, 13:28 1 5

The postings in this forum are all proud flagship galaxy nexus owners. How dare my 300 dollar phone have reboots...data connectivity issues...no facebook friends sync...1 bar signal strength...app compatibility issues....horrible battery life...oh no...not my nexus...dont be in denial....3/4 of nexus owners dont know how to even operate the phone nor Ics...thats why they dont even know about the problems or reboots

38. iamcc posted on 16 Jan 2012, 14:00 3 4

Are you serious? Let's see here:

60% or more of GNex owners have not experienced the random reboots.
Data connectivity issues were fixed in 4.0.3
There are apps to sync your Facebook friends.
The phone has been proven to have some of the most accurate signal strength readings by independent sources.
App compatibility issues? Yeah, the first 2 days ICS was out. Not anymore at least that i've experienced.
Horrible battery life? I'm running a custom ROM and I get 12-16 hours on the standard battery, my GF is stock and gets about 10-12.

3/4 of Nexus owners don't know how to operate the phone or ICS and that's why they don't know about the problems or reboots? That doesn't even make any sense.

41. DROIDX0430 posted on 16 Jan 2012, 14:29 1 2

Read nunber 34 post..my case is adjudicated...you are probably amongst the 3/4 of users im talking abut if my comment didnt make sense to u

33. Abdul92 posted on 16 Jan 2012, 13:39 3 1

WOWWW... Random Reboots? Where have I heard that before. Google needs to get it together. Reboots are caused by a "bug" in the OS that are damn near impossible to detect and treat.

35. Kjayhawk posted on 16 Jan 2012, 13:57 1 1

I have had zero reboots and really no problem with signal loss. I wonder what the issue could be...

40. baldilocks posted on 16 Jan 2012, 14:17 1 3

I still think the Galaxy S II (with Exynos), is the superior phone.

42. datsyuk posted on 16 Jan 2012, 14:33

I'm rooted and have not received any reboots. My battery life is amazing on this phone (at the very least I see 14 hours, can do way more though) and everything runs pretty smooth for the most part. Wish they used a better GPU and camera but whatever I'll get the S III when it comes out :)

49. RandomlyPsychotic posted on 16 Jan 2012, 17:36

I'm glad to know that it just wasn't my phone. Lols. My phone yesterday kept rebooting over and over and over again after it first turned off after the 4.0.2 update. I did a google search and I found nothing. Thought my device was defective ;p

56. atheisticemetic posted on 16 Jan 2012, 18:50

my reception was awful on my nexus (no there isnt an update for reception QUALITY; samsung and verizon call it the "apple bug" and i think they're full of it). Now we add this on top of it? super glad i didnt keep it

i'm just glad i switched to the rezound on my 14th day. I lose an AMOLED screen for better quality? sounds like a better pay off ;)

59. kcombs posted on 16 Jan 2012, 19:09
