Over $10 million in donations have been raised by mobile phone users
In times of crisis, donations from strangers for a worthy cause brings the best out of everyone – even after the tragic events that have ravaged Haiti. We’ve already witnessed the impact of what a mobile phone can accomplish – like how a trapped woman was able to send a text message and subsequently rescued. Donations have been pouring from a variety of outlets, but wireless users provided over $10 million in donations for the efforts in Haiti; according to the Mobile Giving Foundation. Out of the $37 million that the Red Cross has received from donations, roughly $8 million of that have emanated from mobile phones. Jim Manis, Mobile Giving Foundation’s CEO, has been noted saying that an estimated 10,000 donations are being sent a second using SMS to other foundations like the Red Cross and Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund. As the country recovers from this natural disaster, clearly the willingness of people using mobile phones has really been highlighted.

I think this is a bunch of bs!!! Where were all of these countries when we had 911? Where were they when we had hurricane katrina? We are always the first ones to slep in and give our money...... our taxes are even paying for Haiti....... When do we get relief? BS

they assume we are rich so they don't think about it. it's like if you see a tree fall on some mansion, you don't bother helping the ower cause you assume he has the money to get it fixed. what you didn't ask is if he's fileing bankrubtcy

-I guess they assume if we can spent a few billions in a fake war, a few millions in a real disaster might not be such a big deal !!!

Yay, now we are also supporting a country that has no moral backbone and where all the citizens practice witchcraft or who knows what... Maybe the earthquake was supposed to be a wake-up call? I think so.
