Over 1 trillion text messages sent in 2008
The silent form of communication, aka text messaging, has become a phenomenon with more age groups jumping on the bandwagon. To compliment the need for this medium, we’ve seen plenty of devices offer QWERTY keyboards with even more to come. During the annual CTIA keynote held this past Wednesday, CTIA CEO Steve Largent informed attendees that U.S. wireless subscribers sent out over 1 trillion SMS messages in 2008 alone. That number is triple the amount when compared to the paltry 363 billion sent in 2007. But just keep in mind that those figures are only for the U.S.; which makes up some of the total global usage. Always thought as being associated with the younger crowd, we see older age groups hit the trend. So don’t be afraid if you start getting messages from grandma ending with LOL.
