OnePlus posts video proof: there really was a One under the Sony Xperia Z1

0. phoneArena 07 May 2014, 08:45 posted on

Some two months ago, whilst still involved in its hype-inducing marketing effort for the One, OnePlus -- a start-up based in China -- released a picture that attracted a lot of controversy during the period leading up to the release of the OnePlus One, and even afterwards. The source of the controversy was...

A good device but still it is lying to us consumers about such things. Even though they might have produced such a great device, I have to question their integrity. Why bash some other companies when you have such a great device? Unless there's something they have done which is not as good as competition

I liked that in the 80's companies bashed each other in commercials. There is a hilarious one where Subaru compares it's Legacy to Toyota Camry lol :)

Nuh, they are just trash talking as a small company tries to gain fame and popularity. I'm waiting to see how well they do this year :)

Please explain to us how they are lying. The video clearly shows a OPO under Z2. They never showed the whole phone in the picture. And it is pretty much the same size as Z2 too.

Like what Pa said they are leading us on. Before the launch of the phone, much hype was given to the fact that the phone is gonna pack a huge screen in a smaller than z1 body.

They never said smaller body than z1. They said a large screen but very manageable with one hand. I can understand the body is not for one hand at all but at the same time you can do it.

My problem with this phone is that it packs EVERYTHING BUT the water & dust proofing.

To me this makes the phone a 2013 & NOT a 2014 phone.

2014 is the year of the water/dust proof phones.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is going to be the phone of the year because it will be insanely spec'ed & will be water/dust proof.

5.9 inch 2K HD screen with the BEST processor & best RAM all water/dust proof. Simply EPIC!

M8 still has no waterproof. G3 might not have that either. So far there are two major OEMs which has water and dust proof phones. Sony and Samsung. This phone got no SD card which would have been better than water and dust proofness. Water and dustproof bodies are HUGE. You really want that?

Actually I can live with the phone being bigger because water/dust proofing is awesome.

I can go literally ANYWHERE & not worry about a thing. That piece of mind is well worth the added size.

HUGE is really an overstatement. They are still smaller than phablets.

The Galaxy Note 4 will rule everything. Also, I bet anything the next HTC One (M9) & the LG G4 will be dust and waterproof. Put it in the books!

yeah everywhere huh? Just so you know.. the waterproofing is not good in salt water. The flappy thing on S5 will wear down eventually and considering you are opening and closing it at least once a day... I wouldn't trust the waterproofness of that phone within 6 months. On z2 you can have a magnetic charger on the side so less to worry about.

Water and dustproof on phones is really great and i love it but there are flaws that makes me not trusting it fully yet. Z2 and M8 is not that smaller than Note 3. they are no doubts huge. Note 4 will come out late this year with the latest specs but it will be too big for many. I would be fine with just dust and water resistant phones. No way will I risk my phone under water for swimming. There are cases for pretty cheap you can protect your phone for the same thing.

All the places where you may get a little splash or two of fresh water on your phone is not "anywhere". Well, not for many people :)

Take your phone into the mud and you will have issues right away. Or mix some flour and water and put that into the phone like in a real kitchen. Or go to the beach and get salt water/sand back behind the speaker membrane. Or in the headphone port so your headphone plug abrades the the metal contacts and the salt water corrodes them. Not so great.

I would rather Samsung kept the "Active" model and made a "normal" S5 that had better audio, was slimmer, etc.

It's either raise the price so they can do commercials (IIRC, there was an article on the Verge recently breaking down how advertising affects the price of the phone. Hint: having ads make the phone more expensive to cover the cost of the ads), or market the sh*t out of it using social media.

Well they needed a good advertisement and they need to proved it by starting it with the best handset. There's nothing to prove here in my opinion why not let their phone be reviewed or test by tech site so that we would know real life experience to it. As of this time only the price is appealing to me, though it has a good specs , still we as tech lovers would love to put it to the test .

Hey PA, it kinda disturbs me that whenever I start the size comparison tool, Galaxy S5 is automatically there. No matter what phone I select... I'd like if only the phones I selected were there... Just like in the past

lol...There are more things in life to get disturbed about rather then 'a default phone on PA's size comparison tool.'

Anywho, I think its mostly based on the phone which is 'viewed' the most on site at a particular given time. At least that's how it is on gsmarena.com:http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3. I think this is much more helpful since it saves time for majority of the visitors based on probability.

Remember, PA was also using an iPod Classic and a double-A battery as their default comparison devices until very recently...

Consider it an improvement that at least now they're using something relevant to this decade.

Hmm. I have never seen those. Anyway I think they shouldn't have those default things. Maybe a yardstick on the side or something.

what.
I just saw both phone specifications and it shows that One Plus One is wider than Z1 by 1.9 mm and taller by 8.9 mm. It doesn't sound like fitting more into less, more like fitting more into more. ಠ_ಠ

That's why they don't show the whole length of the phone and he purposely aligned them on the top after he top down the Z1

The Z1 is ridiculously big so that honestly doesn't say much.

If the G3 is only slightly bigger than the G2 with a 5.5 inch screen though, that is impressive.

The original teaser only showed the top half, which allowed them to get away without showing that the OnePlus One is taller. Even then, they're using a trick of the camera angle to make it look like it fits completely over the Z1.

The Z1 isn't a narrow phone by any means, especially for a 5 inch phone, but OnePlus was misleading consumers by trying to say that their 5.5" phone is the size of a 5" phone. It's not. It's the size of a 5.5" phone, as is the Z1. In fact, the Note 3 isn't all that much bigger than either.

For anyone whining that the OnePlus phone is too big...go buy a tiny iPhone and "shut yet yap".
You have plenty of choices in devices out there. Move on if you do not like what you see or hear with the ObePlys One

But 5.5inch is to big to be a phone

5 inch would be great

There should.ve been 3 options available 5 and 5.5 and even a 4.5

There are a ton of 5 inch phones out there.
5 inches is the new 4.
Time to move on to bigger things.

5.5 inches is too big to be YOUR phone. My wife, my mother in law and I all have Note 3's... We're all more than happy with its 5.7" screen size on a daily basis. I use my Note 3 one handed all the time. The only time I find it too awkward to use one handed is when I'm laying in bed using my phone, but what is that 10 minutes of the day?? When you grow up and have big boy hands you'll like larger phones.

They have always claimed it was about the size of a Note 3. If anything they did say that it would be a little bit smaller in width. Everything I have seen tells me that the device will feel good in the hand for most one handed operations. Not sure what all of the fuss and whining is about. Maybe people just need a life.

My main complaint is about not being able to order the phone without having to deal with a maze of gimmicks. Using gimmicks to market your phone, especially when the brand is not established, is just plain dumb. But not being able to order the phone after all this hype and after the reveal? That's just insanely stupid.

I think the phone will be solid. Probably a fair amount of initial bugs with the software like the Oppo phones have had. But these will shake out over time. And for $350, a 64GB phone with 3GB RAM, decent processor, a good display, good camera, unlocked bootloader, and easy root -- is hard to beat.

One thing is for sure one plus can only compete in price as of these time. But reviews and real life experience is different . Z1 has it flaws but it's still a damn great phone.
