Honestly, all this was because of Apple. Most people hadn't even heard of accelerometers in phones or accelerometers at all until the launch of the first generation iPhone. I thought that the iPhone was the first phone to input that feature but I read somewhere that some other phone did it first.

The 1st phone to have an accelerometer was the Nokia N95...which came out in March 07...the hardware was there, however there was no API files to control the accelerometer. Nokia then released the API files around 6 months after launch...

E.N. was right, sure the N95 had it on the market 1st but Apple made it mainstream- ask anyone carrying around a "free Phone" from their carrier if they would rather have an iPhone or an N95- they will look at you and say "what's an N95?" sure the N95 was great- it started the Camera war but it was never meant to be mainstream like the iPhone

Yeah and the first iPhone came out June 2007, just 3 months after the N95. Plus the accelerometer in the iPhone was useable from day 1 of launch while according to hargs48, the N95's accelerometer could be used only after the release of API's around September.

I totally loved the accelerometer in the Gameboy advance. Brilliant!

That one was good, but it couldnt hold a candle to the accelerometer of the Neo Geo Pocket or the Game Gear!
