Oh, the absurdity: iOS games with titles containing the word "memory" may be pulled from the App Store

Stuff like this really makes you question the way trademarks are awarded to entities. According to a report from gaming site Gamasutra, Apple is in the process of warning iOS developers that in case the titles of their games contain the word "memory," they might soon be pulled from the App Store...

What also is incredibly stupid is all the patents apple files and gets awarded, like a 'rectangular device with rounded corners'... and 'slide to unlock'.. and 'clickable links in email' and soo many more useless apple patents, apple deserves none of these and like regualr companies, google and Microsoft, they don't even bother filing for such nonsense, let alone attack, sue and try to pilage with such silliness.
The entire system is broke BUT craple is the company leading the way in their attempts to stifle competition by elimination rather than simply being better and outselling their competition.

Sounds like silly season just opened. I wonder which is more 'broken' - patents or trademarks?

All the developers should rename their apps to have memory in the name as an ultimate FU to the patent office and this company that was arrogant enough to submit the application for the patent.

From now on, no game, app, or tool will have any name at all. Sorry, but this just makes things easier legally.
Also, it is the judgment of the legal system that cell phones must be made without any shape, either. That will prevent hurting any protections from violating those phones that came before you.
Also, beginning in 2013, phones cannot be releases in the colors blue, red, Grey, yellow, purple, magenta, lavender (which my wife swears is different from magenta), and silver to prevent any of these shapeless-masses from violating any of the precedents from devices that came before them.
There is currently a second judgment coming on black and white, as legal teams are currently arguing if they are colors or the absence of colors. This has been scheduled to be decided after the legal brief that will rule on the idea of there being noise or not if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around.
Enjoy your mobile experience. The legal world is hear to protect. Sleep well.

If you can patent the word apple and patent a shape like the rectangle, I guess we shouldn't be surprised with this right? This is obviously the world we live in and we have apple to thank for this trend.

It is just too bad that this will have more impact on the developers than on Apple itself. And if Apple whines, well, they can just take their own whole shtick and put it where the light don't shine.

Easy, just change the word to "remembrance" or to "retentive". oh and devs, put inside your code a F*CK YOU .I. to Ravensburger for all of us.

I wll use the word memory a lot from now on. It is completely absurd they can patent this word. Does Oxford or Merriam-Webster have to pay them for the rights to put the word "memory" in the Dictionary?

This is what happens when companies run out of ideas and creativity.

Isn't "Apple" or "Windows" trademarked? If yes then what's wrong with Memory? Or it is wrong just ebcause it's someone from outside world?

I would have agree Ray S. I put this in the same folder as giving a company a patent for a square with rounded corners.
