We all know by now that Google hardware gets sold at a discount. Nexus handsets aim for the $299 starting point, the Nexus 10 starts at $399, and the new Nexus 7 starts at just $229. Unfortunately, we also know by now that the accessories for those devices don't get any sort of discount; and really, it sometimes feels like the Nexus accessories are a way for Google to make up some of the profit margin it gives up on the hardware itself.
All that to say that the new official microsuede case for the new Nexus 7 are now available in the Google Play Store, although they cost $49. For comparison, Apple charges $49 for its Smart Case for the full size iPad. And, really that is a good comparison even beyond the price, because the new microsuede case for the Nexus 7 is designed much like the Apple Smart Case with options to use the cover as a stand for your tablet.
The Nexus 7 cases also come in a few colors, although interestingly it puts the color on the inside. The cases come in either black (inside and out), gray (outside) with either red or blue inside, or white (outside) with red inside.
You can order a case today, and the cases will start shipping tomorrow.
