Official Froyo test upgrade for Sprint's Samsung Epic 4G leaks

0. phoneArena posted on 04 Dec 2010, 23:33

Installing the DK28 build for the Samsung Epic 4G will take the handset to Android 2.2.1 and as a test unit, the upgrade is not being pushed out by Sprint so if you want it, you need to take it right from Google...

Didnt get the update ota but did it with the leaked (official) version from xda. With 2.2 its so much better! Brings more colors to the setting, changes the way texting looks, and of course flash support.

So since this isn't directly from Sprint, will downloading this void my warranty?

I'm not sure. I wouldn't worry about it so much. This leak is official and can easily be updated through the stock recovery system. Plus, Sprint isn't the brightest about their phones AT ALL, so they probably wouldn't even realize if you had either Eclair or Froyo.

I remember when I bought my Epic, the representative was trying to sell me it by saying it had Froyo. He actually believed that too. I brought up the "about phone" settings and made him look stupid. I'm glad I know my electronics haha.

Does anyone know when the 2.2 will come through for the samsung transform?

Installing this release will void coverage. Sprint notified its employees of the leaked update yesterday and told everyone to advise customers that it is a test revision and not to install it. That being said.... many Sprint employees won't know the difference anyway.. I have installed this on a few Epics and the one issue I noticed is that one of them will no longer send texts properly. My personal one is working fine, though.

Just to let everyone know, I spoke with a Sprint Rep and they told me that if you bring your Epic into the store, they will update it to the 2.2 Froyo for you. No need to wait for the OTA update or possibly mess up your phone by doing it yourself. FINALLY!!!!
