It sucks for those who bought the Note in the beginning of the year and with a two year contract.

Tell me about it! I'm thinking about abusing my best buy black tie protection plan and breaking my phone 3 times so that I can get the note 2.

is the best buy black tie protection plan worth paying for? i am thinking of getting it when i buy the note 2. its 170 for two years if you commit, rather than 10 dollars a month.
would you really get the new version of the note from the insurance plan?

The GNote2 is just a big disappointment to me, going NARROWSCREEN with 16:9 over 16:10 as well as not even increasing the screen resolution is just... well, a big disappointment...
Sure its quad core and 2GB, but considering my GNote flys on JB already, the only possible reason I could think of to upgrade is the updated Samsung SPen apps/functionality... so, not going to happen for just some fancy apps (though I will admit, they are pretty damn fancy).
I'm strapped for cash at the moment, but I wanted the TF700 (Asus Transformer Infinity) for its BEAUTIFUL (and I have hands on thanks to a local best-buy) screen and resolution of 1920x1200, then I heard about the GNote 10.1... lo and behold disappointed again with its lack-luster 1280x800 -justlikeeverybodyelse- screen resolution... not even the SPen and exciting apps would make me nab the GNote 10.1 over the TF700...
These are all my thoughts of course, feel free to disagree, but know that I have converted quite a few of the people I have worked with over the years to 16:10 monitors vs 16:9 when we put my 24" 1920x1200 next to their 24" 1920x1080 and they realize while its only 20 pixels, its a good 2"~ of vertical viewing area. Not to mention if you visit websites these days... heres a hint, THEY GO UP AND DOWN NOT LEFT TO RIGHT, even on PA I have a good 3" of black striping because websites no longer fill the entire page but squash everything into the center... Stupid media industry...

Narrower but taller, and slight bigger, what do you need more?
Less screen resolution but cripper with RGB matrix, what do you need more?
TF700 is the worst Android flagship tablet ever (or maybe it's still better than his brother TF201), believe me. Asus always shows the external things that making you fancy (FHD IPS+ screen, quick update, aluminum, quad-core,...) but in fact it's CRAP. Cheap Wifi modem (sh*t AZURE in stead of Broadcom), cheap NAND (copying slow as hell), cheap build quality (it's true, aluminum is nothing, 7/10 TF700 tablets have that problem), cheap warranty support and cheap firmware support (you cannot regconize the change after updated, still buggy).
The only thing I love is the keyboard dock.
Tf101 is good enough, but after using tf201 and tf700, I never buy any ASUS tablet anymore.

I dont want taller, I bought a WIDESCREEN device for a reason (the OG Note)!, IE because its WIDE... Reading/Editing a document/book on my old HD2 (and now my GNote) is SOOO much nicer then doing it on my Evo3D, even with a higher resolution its so NARROW when reading in portrait mode, and seeing as Im used to books, this is how I read/work!
Its all a moot argument for the average user however, or if the screen isnt the selling point to you.
As for the TF700, In my brief testing at the local BestBuy:
The WiFi blew away the transfer speed on my TF101 (seeing as you mention it and its what I own)
I didnt get to test copying, but I would guess if your talking about PC to Tablet thats probably not NAND and more of whats used to transfer (MTP vs other protocols), but Ill give you that one since I didnt get to test that.
The build quality on my TF101 is crap as well... side by side I liked the TF700 much more.
I have had WONDERFUL support from ASUS with my TF101, fixed my speaker issue, fixed my dock issue, fixed my screen issue, during the fixing of the screen issue they messed up the bezel and backing, and they fixed those issues as well...
As far as Firmware support, I never stick to 100% stock anyway, I haven't encounterd a device yet that I was satisfied with the "stock" firmware.
When it comes to it, my only disappointment with ASUS at all over the Transformer series is the decision to go with a Mono speaker setup... thats it! Its the ONLY thing I would change on the new TF series. Seriously, who stands behind their devices when watching movies or listening to music?
22. hung2900 (Posts: 949; Member since: 02 Mar 2012)
3mm narrower? What's the point of 3mm? In my opinion the screen is almost identical during using, but for my 16:9 looks nicer.
As I said, tf101 is a good tablet at this time. I had it and i was satisfied. However ICS firmware is pain in the @ss with RR and SoD. It's still a problem even with guevor kernels. 720p video playback is very very bad.
I agree with you about mono speaker. All of us need stereo speaker.
25. Hammerfest (Posts: 383; Member since: 12 May 2012)
Seeing as all I have seen is pictures, it looks more then 3mm, but I still hate the media industry for sheeping everyone into the narrowscreen 16:9 orgy...
Yeah, running ARHD ICS with Guevor v23, havent had a single RR or SoD (not related to my OCing from 1Ghz to 1.7Ghz that is) in the last 2 months since I settled back on ARHD, 720p playback works like a charm!
Yeah... Someone needs to be slapped for the Mono speaker... even more so since it faces the rear instead of the front or side... you know, where you could hear it properly! I feel sorry for anyone standing in front of you :/

Well, widescreen usually refers to the narrower screen since it's meant to be viewed horizontal not vertical
As for your comment about 16:9 vs 16:10, i agree with you there. I prefer the 16:10 aspect ratio over 16:9 but i guess it will be better for content compatibility in the future since most devices are set for 16:9 aspect ratio

THE IPHONE 5 IS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Some people may want a 5" phone so they won't need to buy a tablet or at least have a BIG A$$ SCREEN
47. phonerobbie (Posts: 3; Member since: 26 Sep 2012)
i have always like apple products and was going to get the iphone 5 but the screen size and lack of impressive features has driven me to get the Galaxy Note 2. with its incredible speed, removable battery and micro sd card slot, huge screen and s pen, i dont have a justifiable reason to get the iphone 5 over the note 2. i just hope it doesnt suffer from any lag. that would be a deal breaker.
38. Hammerfest (Posts: 383; Member since: 12 May 2012)
gotta love the HTC Phablet coming is supposed to have a 1080p resolution, despite my dislike for the aspect ratio, I still stand correct on the disappointment in screen resolution increase

18. Wildmanfan (Posts: 238; Member since: 15 Jul 2010)
You seriously want to sell your note? Let me know what you want for it.
41. Jeradiah3 (Posts: 1031; Member since: 11 Feb 2010)

9. ajac09 (Posts: 1481; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
gnote 2 going to all 4 carriers this time around. But I wonder if at the sametime or spread out in the same week or completely different months?
28. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Do you have a citation for the release across all 4 carriers? Not challenging, just curious. I haven't seen anything about a release across all 4 carriers, so your post caught my attention.
31. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
I do believe Samsung said directly during the presentation that it was going to all major carriers.
And so far they still say its exynos. I gots my eye on it. Might have to pocket test one to see if I can stand the size.
33. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
If the Note II doesn't pass the pocket fit test, there is always a fanny pack. Or, get larger pockets added to your pants. :-)
39. ajac09 (Posts: 1481; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
I cant wait to own one!! and looks like the note 2 is leaking on all the carriers but only AT&T has a date which is okay with me since I am with AT&T lol
10. InspectorGadget80 (unregistered)
Another good reason TO ALWAYS WAIT for the good phones to come out. Now I have to decide the NOTE II or the XPERIA T

Wish I had an upgrade available. If people were intelligent enough they would buy the better phone and not the faddish, slick marketing, coolsville Iphone.

i read that smasung would have built in a 13 mpx camera but sony could not deliver it because lg ordered a lot of 13 mpx sensors already for the optimus g.
thats way samsung will produce his own sensors for his future devices
and this sensor will not be ordinary sensors they will be BSI sensors (back side illumination)
damn sammy only u can make it change :D
im already looking forward to it :D
and i read another thing that samsung have started to produce 5.5 inch
FLEXIBLE displays! perhaps there is a mod NOTE 2+ or something on the way
and perhaps it will have a 13 mpx cam :D and an exynos 5250
sorry for my bad english

Now I have a question for all you on phonearena. Would you get the Note 2 on Verizon or would you wait to go to AT&T and get the Note 2? I heard that Verizon is going to get this last. Like in November or December.
34. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
If you already have a VZW account, you have probably done the AT&T vs. VZW decision process. Moving off VZW to get a particular handset opens you up to whatever caused you to switch in the first place. Waiting a month to get the Note II on VZW would seem to not be unreasonable.
I have been asking about the Note II being released on VZW for just such a reason. VZW has waaaay more LTE coverage in the SF Bay area than AT&T. Also, there continue to be problems with dropped calls and AT&T. If getting a Note II on VZW meant waiting until November or December, I can do it. However, if HTC releases their competitor to the Note II on VZW before the Note II, then I will have a hard decision to make.

NOW those specs are GROUND BRAKING WOWOWOWOW...!!!!! Note 2 just took a crap on the iphone 5 LOL.................. Buy buy APPLE till next year you can try agaiin

There is no competition between the Note 2 and the LG Optimus Vu/LG Intuition, let alone any possible competition between the Note and LG Optimus Vu/LG Intuition. I'm looking towards what HTC might be bringing to the table with its phablet, and think that that might be more competition for the Note 2 than anything currently from LG.
30. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
Samsung isnt worried about anything HTC is pulling out. They still havent gotten the message that people like removable batteries and SD cards (as well as batteries that last). They need to worry more about LG who is actively promoing their monster phone months before it comes out to build up hype. If LG gets that phone on multiple carriers, it would be a direct competitor. I dont think it can beat it in sales, but it will definitely take some away.
35. speckledapple (Posts: 892; Member since: 29 Sep 2011)
That just might be my device barring any significant competition from HTC or another company. Though I have considered the windows.
40. Jeradiah3 (Posts: 1031; Member since: 11 Feb 2010)
October 21 could be the release date for the Galaxy Note II??? im loving that because I can hold out until my eligibility date and i can make it my Christmas present to MYSELF lol

42. RyanM4g63 (Posts: 15; Member since: 20 Aug 2012)
Way too big, The 4.8 gs3 and 4.7 evo lte are too big. They're getting really dumb with making phones bigger now. I'm not an Apple clown baby fan-boy but I do appreciate the fact that they want your phone to fit in your pocket. I mean lets admit it you look like a complete idiot holding this phone up to your face. Bluetooth is no excuse.
43. nofear (Posts: 151; Member since: 22 Jun 2012)
Verizon just being retard when comes down on having device like this.

I remember when the original droid came out I was in the VZW store getting my acc # to go to AT&T I'll be honest I was young I wanted an iPhone Secretly. But I remember the sales rep asked me why I was leaving I said I wanted an iPhone; Also at the time I wasn't getting great service with verizon in the areas I was on a daily basis. She tried selling me on the original droid and I always think how far droid has come along since. That phone was s**t. Comparing the 2 these days though is a whole nother story.
