Smart move. Mr. Prez should know tech competitiveness starts with the GOV.

the government kills competition, not enhances it, when they enter a space.

Not true, think of how many monopolies there would be if not for gov. We'd all be paying $500 a month to VZATT

Monopolies cannot exist without government force. There is ALWAYS competition without gov't interference. The ONLY monopoly in America today is the U.S.P.S.

So you're telling me there are other companies that are eager to compete with the USPS to deliver your letter from your house to somebody else's private residence, anywhere from 3 miles to 3000 miles away for $0.45? No matter whether that residence is in a crowded urban area or 50 miles from the nearest town? Not likely. Many of the reasons (but not all) the USPS is in such a financial mess is that they are required by the government to do stuff that NO corporation could do profitably, and neither can the USPS.

There can't be companies eager to compete because the government won't let them. You don't think UPS or Fedex could possibly want to send mail? I don't pretend to know everything. I don't know if they could do it for .45. In fact I doubt they could do it for .45 because the USPS can't. I agree with you that it is the government's fault for the USPS's financial situation. All I am saying is that monopolies cannot exist without gov't force, which is true, and that the USPS is one.

The only way monopolies can exist is because of government OR because the PEOPLE CHOOSE only ONE business selling a certain product or good.
"For, in part, the privileges AT&T enjoyed as a government-sanctioned monopoly with government-set prices were understood as being offset by this contribution to basic scientific research, an activity with proportionately more direct government funding in most other countries. Put another way, in the United States, the higher consumer prices
resulting from monopoly amounted, in effect, to a tax on Americans used to fund basic research. This unusual insinuation of a corporation between the government and its goal of advancing American science goes a long way to explain how AT&T, as it matured, became in effect almost a branch of government, charged with top- secret work in the national interest." from Gizmodo

I'd still like to see an app. I know it's not the same as the full site, but in my opinion it's inexcusable for a site dedicated to mobile phones to not have a quick access app.
