Nokia's Stephen Elop reportedly on the shortlist for Microsoft CEO

0. phoneArena 26 Aug 2013, 19:29 posted on

It has only been a few days since Steve Ballmer announced that he would be stepping down as CEO of Microsoft one year from now. There has obviously been speculation as to who would replace Ballmer, but Microsoft doesn't have an officially known shortlist for the job. Of course, that doesn't mean that one name is getting far more attention than most: Nokia's Stephen Elop...

You can tell Bill Gates won't come back. It's wishful thinking.

I'm sure the public/consumers would love for Elop to leave his post at Nokia. They really love hating on the guy!

But anyways it's 12 months... people sure can't hold in their excitement for speculation...

No. it will just mean that you phone are abandon just like a Symbian phone when Elop came aboard Nokia.

There only one reason Nokia stick to Windows phone is because Microsoft pay Nokia one billion per year to make only Windows phone once that stop Nokia is free to choose again.

So your saying a company as great as Nokia is with hardware couldn't build a phone that doesn't lag? With most current flagships there is little to no lag, and the Moto X is a prime example of optimizing android for the hardware. If Nokia can't produce a lagless android phone, then they aren't the great company many male it out to be.

And same logic goes to those who say they can't compete with Samsung for Android. Either Nokia can bring it or they can't. Personally, I'd like to see them do both OS' so more choices as consumers can be made.

no one can ever make a lagless android phone, it;s just how it was made, why nokia doesn't use it...

And that's due to your extensive use of android correct?

I'm not a fanboy of any particular OS, but it irks me when people parrot what they hear from other people. Yes, android does lag on non optimized, heavily skinned, and devices with mid-range hardware. Try something out like a Nexus or the X or the Newest Droids, all of which run android bone stock or very close to it. All reviews on the new Moto phones list them as being as lagless as iOS & WP devices. By that I mean that ANY OS can experience lag at one point or another, but they are bare minimum when optimized or skinless.

you mad?

yes bro, android does lag, so bad...yes, i have tried to own and use android, but i'm not sure how anyone can use it extensively, when it lags so much....unless you're really a fanboy that you will have the patience to go all through that hassle....

i'm not sure why you're so defensive that you have to go all through that...but really, android does lag...and it's not just at "one point or another"(why do fanboys always use this lame line), android does lag...BIG TIME...it just the way it was made......

you may put all those big words here into writing, but everybody just knows....android lags....bottomline...

It is not about how great Nokia is or how fantastic the hardware is. The whole problem is with how Android manages its tasks. The problem is inherent with Android and has nothing to do with H/W manufacturors or custom overlays or number of applications.

yes they can't build something without lag.
my 5800 xm lag
my n8 lag
my c6-01 also lag
my sony m600
my sony p1i
my ipad 2nd gen and ipod touch lag too
same with my fascinate
and optimus vu p985
whatever the names of the manufactures all have LAG.
lumia 1020 also lag in many review videos.
there are no superiority in smartphone world, only needs and features not the BRAND name on it.

It's not a hardware issue. It's the fact that android by its very nature is going to run roughly and need a lot of high-end hardware to create a seemingly-smooth experience, due to the fact it runs on the Java Virtual Machine. The device is pretty much running two systems at once, the JVM and then the interaction OS on top of it. I would not be surprised if google releases a 5.0 version of their mobile OS that would be a mobile iteration of their Chrome OS, just so it could run leaner and be more efficient. Not even sure they'd call it android, or maybe they'd call it Android Chrome?

Probably the opposite, actually. As CEO he would want prior investments to bear fruit, so would likely continue or raise financial distribution to Nokia.

Very interesting! As what i thought Elop will replace Ballmer. For me personally, Elop is a smart guy, very active, challenging and work hopefully. but who will be the CEO of Nokia if Elop leaves? I can see the possibility that Nokia with Android. However, I want Nokia keeps WP as their main OS then android is second. WP is a nice, smooth and fast OS (it is the fastest OS in my opinion) but need to have a lot more apps.

As an Android user, I wouldn't have a problem with Nokia producing WP first, then Android as a secondary OS. As long as they offer quality handsets for both, that's a win for sure.

Android wouldn't happen on a Nokia with Elop at Nokia or at Microsoft, since as the CEO he's answerable to the shareholders and employees, so they would want their considerable investments if time and money to be successful, which means continuing ot increasing the payouts to Nokia.

and all the haters thought nokia was being overtaken by MSFT, but it seems that NOK is taking over MSFT. And for Elop to be even mentioned on that list only proves that he is doing a good job at Nokia. Keep it up Mr. Elop

I predict that Mr Bates will become CEO of Microsoft. He will speed of the development of the new Windows 9 OS to get past Windows 8 or 8.1. He will order the creation of Windows 9 Desktop SKEW which will have no Modern UI tiles/AKA Metro tiles He have a Version of Windows 9 that will be put on Tablets, Touch screen all in one computers, and touchscreen laptop/Notebooks that will be an improved version of Windows 8.1 and it will use Modern UI/ AKA Metro tiles because that is Microsoft's unique touch screen user interface. He will attempt to make MS Tablets cheaper. He will have MS continue to make Windows RT Tablets but MS will only make small quantities of a small screen version of Windows RT Tablets since it does sell as well as the Regular Windows 9 Desktop skew. He will improve and maintain Microsoft's
Enterprise cash cow Software products. Xbox will survive, He will make sure Windows 9 smart phone software improves to make windows smart phones be more competitive in the market place. Microsoft will survive and grow Windows 9 desktop skew sales will be great because many Companies and individual consumers who use windows "XP" will upgrade to it.

You do know there's a desktop on 8 and 8.1, right? The biggest difference between 8 and 7 is that the start menu is a start screen with the live tiles. Much more user-friendly, in my experience with it over the last year.

If Mr. Elop gets the job. I think he will be aggressive and do a great JOB. but he must get past Window 8 or 8.1 and create a separate the Windows 9 Desktop OS that has no modern UI tiles for the Millions of Windows XP customers who have to upgrade because Windows XP is DEAD folks. The desktop only SKEW of Windows 9 will sell like Hot cakes. An
advanced version of Windows 8.1 called Windows 9T will also be available but will be mostly put on Touch screen tablets. All in one touch screen PC's and Notebooks that have a touch screen. MS will make small quantities of Windows Rt tablets since they will not sell as well as
Windows 9T will because windows 9T will run legacy software.
