Nokia might officially announce its first smartphone based on Android at MWC 2014 later this month. The handset could be called Nokia X, and should be quite cheap...

Won't happen. Nokia will fail if they make high end Android (Google) devices.

if they can get some market back by introducing affordable ones 1st, i don't see why they won't. i'd trade my nexus for one in a heartbeat if they made a high end phone.

Maybe so, maybe not... It depends on which region you're talking about.. In the US? Maybe not... In Spain, or elsewhere? This device would most likely succeed.. That's probably the only reason why MS would allow this... IOW, it's no potential threat to WP,,,, yet.

Nope, it won't. C'mon, lets be rational, 150m is an insane amount, 20m at most. Nokia has earned a not so good reputation these past few years.
And are you f_kin' kidding me, 1b fans. I think you've confused Nokia for The Beatles. Thats 1 in 7 people.

Had my Lumia 920 not been Windows I wouldn't have ditched it in 3 days.

Nokia designs and innovation are way above any of Apple/Samsung/LG or any such #$%^.

Had Nokia been sensible and gone with Android instead of Windows, none of Apple or Samsung would have been even closer to them in sales!

Do not blindly clinge onto sarcasm.

Lags on Android phones are prevalent no doubt but that also goes to say what each OEMs do to the stock android and lay a heavy ton of customizations on the phone.

I own a Nexus 4 and it runs extremely smooth. The MOTO G if someone might have heard with moderate hardware is one of the smoothest sailing phones on Android compared to the beastly spec'd smartphones from Samsung / LG / HTC or any out there.

Nokia has always been the brand who measures usability / performance & build quality above specifications and hardware components.

@Liveitup: FYI I owned a Windows phone and let me tell you it was super smooth but without any good apps. Even Whatsapp (the universally accepted super messenger) was the most buggiest app in Windows. Leave aside the UI of Whatsapp which always dragged me off Windows. There are tons of other such apps with similar problems.

Bottom line is there is no OS in the world bigger than the apps it has to offer.

Agree with your last paragraph. If you use a high end WP now, you'll find most of your fav apps on it, since most of the popular apps are available in the store. :)

Never had a problem with whatsapp, i prefer its UI over the one on the droid.

Actually now that i think of it, of my 90 apps or so, only one likes to crash and that is 9gag. Maybe i just dont use the apps every two seconds like i see other socialites do.

And yes i would have not looked at nokia if it ran android.

probably not, because the x was probably already 90% done ms allowed it to finish. But now that MS holds the devices division with patents to go. Nokia will not be competitive.

But even if they do it's a win for MS, what is it 25$ or so of every droid device sold goes to MS or something like that.

Nokia and wp8 looks like they are made for each other...loke apple for ios.....lets see what android bring, but my thoughts are that they will only replace asha software with forked android, the leaked ui also suggest the same ui as that of asha....so nokia won't make high end android devices according to me, plus all hardware tweaks are with MS

Choice is great, just like because of choice, my default web browser is so capable, I am not locked into a particular OS because of an app...

I can play dirrectly from the web browser, my google music collection.

Without being tied to android.

No Google services makes the switch from Windows Phone to Android absolutely useless. The main issue is not Windows here, but their disgusting app store. So whats the point? lol.

Do you work for Nokia?

The point of Android is the freedom to do what you want, that's half of the reason people avoid Apple. All the free software is awesome so if we don't have the play store and Google apps and are forced to use expensive MS software then it's just not going to cut it. It'll only really be success if they if they give people what they want. Better than nothing but why can't they just give us stock Android. I guess if they hardware is good we'll all just have to flash CM or something on it.

Maybe i'm just bitter from buying MS Project for $480 today, what a joke, you can buy a computer for that, all for some software that I use a couple hours a month.

Yes I work directly from Nokia ;)
no I don't work at Nokia but I love Nokia, m$ and WP. Matter of fact I've been replacing all my android hardware little by little with windows and couldn't be happier. Last android thing I have is an old Asus and a new nexus 7.

This strikes me as something that was never meant to be an upgrade to any other Android device, or to any Windows Phone device. this is strictly a replacement for Series 40... for Series 40 Asha users, this WILL be an upgrade. This is meant only to drive the move from feature phones to smartphones in the emerging markets, but I fear that the pricing could still have been better.

512mb of Ram? Thats really really low even for a low end android device. We will see how it runs with Kit Kat, but it should really be priced at around $50-$80. Sounds like an Android Version of the Lumia 520.
