Nokia is a kind of company which doesn't like to be dependent on others, or become slaves someone other. For this they had some exclusive deal with MS, who provided them with funds in Nokia's difficult days.

Nokia managed to secure a deal in which they would participate in WP development. As a result you can see Nokia having a spectacular portfolio of apps which are alone can be a great feature to turn things around.

Now if they see MS blocking their path (for example they are blocking the 7.8 update) Nokia would have to answer MS back with some threat. This is exactly what's happening here. Elop is threatening MS here, indicating that they are not dependent on MS, but the other way around.

I honestly think that if WP has made progress, Nokia has a very, very major share in it. MS, you better be afraid of Nokia. An android powered 920 with Nokia's software touch can easily become a bestseller.

I really don't understand why Nokia stuck only with WP-8. It’s different than others that’s good, but puts many limitations on hardware partners like Nokia and HTC (only best deal with dual core and not quad cores, only 720P resolution support not 1080P, Camera tech limitations). WP8 put all focused on the just Home Screen with Live tiles but no interactive apps like Android and IOS, no notifications!! Nokia Go with Android and you can become King Again!!

yea thats one point i hate about Microsoft, where u can find all the phones, having the same hardware specs, and the same user-interface, unlike Android where every OEM can make their own UI or use the latest hardware specs,

It's safe to assume that they aren't. We don't know the internals of the deal and the deal can't obviously be one sided. Nokia may have some aces up their sleeve.

And excuse me, Nokia is the sole mobile phone manufacturer (besides apple) who has most talent in Software field. They developed, used s40, s60, MeeGo and were also developing Meltemi. Don't even try to doubt it.

What the F other did do? Develop crappy half baked OSes like Bada? or the old school Java platforms? All are just used to take everything from google and put skins on it.

Intel and Web os were behind MeeGo dude, and no it's a done deal with Elop, heck symbian phones still sold more than windows and the deal required an exclusivity to Microsoft for 5 years, it's online dude

That's why they depend and rely on MS. This Eflop ex MS employe is taking Nokia down since he took over, he sold Vertu he killed his own platform with along there one and only N series also he killed there 8800 $series, this guy and the board members should fire them right now and Finland should boycott them.....

He just did which was good for Nokia. Vertu wan't profitable already, and selling it raised some funds for Nokia. N series and others were good, awesome in their times, but the fast appearing smartphone era was all set to to take a toll on them.

Nokia could have gone Android way, but past is past. Nokia is doing adequately well and I'm not concerned about any past. I just see the 'positive curve' indicating that company is accelerating. It's just a matter of time.

you sound like MS HELP Nokia, no it doesn't. In fact Nokia and MS struck the deal and MS has to pay Nokia no matter what condition Nokia is in.

Independent Nokia? Just look how MS humiliated Nokia time after time. Look at SS, Sony, LG... they can fork Android at any moment. That what INDEPENDENT companies look like.

Lol nokia WAS a company that doesn't like to be dependent on others, otherwise they would've re build symbian and/or deployed MeeGo, otherwise if they were independent they would've never agreed to go with Microsoft, the only reason I didn't get a 920 was because of the os, instead I got a note II hopefully by next year we do see an android lumia, that'll be a total iphone killer

Nokia + Android = HISTORY

Android will make Nokia go NOWHERE, Android is a crowded market, and not everyone whould go for a Droid Nokia, maybe you, me, and few here on PA would love this happening.

money won't be pouring at Nokia if they adopted Android, and this is not happening now with wp8 either, but the wp ecosystem is growing now, its a safer option.

Actually, Nokia + Android will be a huge success (Provided Nokia would customize Android in their own way).

But I'm more than okay with Nokia with WP. In fact, Android isn't that beautiful to be loaded in a Nokia phone.

This can be a good idea, Android does not mean Google.

But frankly w/o Google ecosystem Nokia can't compete right now. Forking Android can be a good idea when Nokia returns to profitability and strong again.

I'd agree with you, but it's about time you bow to reality. Dream on, I don't think Nokia will launch an Android phone any time soon, and they do have legitimate reasons for doing so. It's the sad truth for some, friend.

Seriously I love that idea too, but I think it's too late now. An ecosystem is not easy to build, just ask MS about that.

Nokia now needs something good, and cheap, and QUICK.

That can only be Android.

or Nokia can re-hire the Jolla team (Ex-Nokians, who made the Meego OS) which I think a better option, than going for Ubuntu or WebOS.
