Nokia has just released its first 8-megapixel camera phone, the N86 8MP, and rumors are now around, going the manufacturer has plans to roll out new camera phones, equipped with up to 12MP sensors and possibly, optical zoom. PhoneReport’s sources with Nokia and Carl Zeiss inform that we should see such devices in either late 2009 or early 2010. The first Nokia camera phone to introduce optical zoom was the N93, released back in 2006. It would be great to see the feature finally come back to cell phones.
Note: Another optical zoom device we have seen recently is a 12MP Samsung phone. It is being referred to as the Samsung Monaco M8920.

Its only a matter of time before Cellphones catch up to Digital cameras in quality. Or at least get close enough, where you barely tell the difference.

there isnt any reason a camera phone wont be as high quality as a digital camera. its all about what they put in for lenses n software. if they see a market for an expencive high end phone/camera that takes awesome pics, it will be done asap.
