Nokia to bring its maps expertise to iPhone and Android with HERE Maps
0. phoneArena 14 Nov 2012, 03:27 posted on
It looks like Nokia is looking to expand the user base of its mapping technology, and the way it plans to do so is by announcing a new brand, HERE, and making it available to users of all platforms...

Nokia will eventually become a Maps company during it's dying years..
I was a Nokia user from Nokia 3310 to N8 and now ELOP changed everything and no one wants to buy a Nokia phone.

dont agree with you... even im using android the Lumia 920 is very tempting...

Lumia 920 is tempting, that's true, but if you have read the review of it here in Phone Arena, they mentioned bad call quality issue during phone calls; and what's the use of a phone that can't deliver decent phone calls?

Well we won't know for sure if Call quality is bad or not since the reviews other than that of a certian fruit are biased on PhoneArena, I have a Lumia 800 n call quality is at par of high end phones. Though I've no idea about Lumia 920 but seriously Nokia stands for quality so I doubt they would release some thing like that.

actually, phonearena's call quality test is hit or miss. i have 3 phones reviewed(one x, xperia arc and n8)by phonearena and were (excluding the n8) having total opposite results to phonearena's call quality results.actually the call quality test is absurd cuz its full of variables; human ear variation, phone ear piece quality ,service reception, quality of the carriers, the variation of call quality across different combination of two phones(the caller &the receptor) , angle of holding the phone while talking......etc
results will(will not can) vary from one person to another. and idea of nokia phone having a bad call quality is totally unbelievable and making this test very questionable.through all my history with phones ,nokia phones have the best call quality.most people switched from nokia to SGS3 or iphone 4s do confirm that they miss nokia's crisp call quality( and nokia's bulid quality) .nokia can make an ugly phone, heavy phone,a phone with a bad OS but whats for sure is when u get a nokia,u will the best phone that does phone functions right(no bad call quality. no death grips, no antenna design issues), its not like apple with its antenna gate for god's sake

Sadly i have too agree with you - @ brar.arsh - My son used the N9, not anymore... Nokia was a "Heavy Weight Champ"; But now must tell all and sell all. Things that made Nokia unique are up for everybody now.

Nice move. Good to see Nokia expanding their mapping technology.

That would be perfect if they added offline navigation!
7. Rocksteady (unregistered)
You're right, offline navigation is the most important feature (from my point of view), I'm currently using ndrive on my SGS3 which provides offline navigation, and it works perfectly.
19. amirlukmanhisyam (Posts: 43; Member since: 26 Jun 2012)
If you want offline navigation then you have to buy Nokia phones. They have provided offline navigation since Nokia 5800...
20. aaronkatrini (Posts: 240; Member since: 06 Jun 2012)
I have free offline navigation on my Android phone. I could have free offline navigation on an iPhone or a Windows Phone. I wouldn't choose nokia only for that

Nokia is so friendly to android and apple..SPREAD the love NOKIA...

Apple will never approve this, because they failed with there maps.
So they will just copy Nokia and sue them for using Apple patents!

Just so you know, Apple has a patent license agreement with Nokia, like the one they just made with HTC.

if wp8 fails(which i dont want) nokia will be compelled to move to android
13. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
what so they can fight in a crowded market against samsung, who are the only real company thats seeing excellent profits with android
wp8 is nokia's real chance to come back, android right now would be a disaster
14. shuaibhere (Posts: 1933; Member since: 07 Jul 2012)
atleast two(samsung, htc) are making profits in android camp...
15. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
Htc arent doing well enough to cheer about, face it when people think android they think samsung. any other company just coming into it wouldnt fair well
besides all you android fans keep moaning about nokia not going android yet slate there efforts with the 920....if the 920 isnt good why you want a nokia android phone?
just mindless hate for anything not android and its getting old now
23. shuaibhere (Posts: 1933; Member since: 07 Jul 2012)

24. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)

HTC doesnt do anything to stand out other than shell design of the phone. That's not enough.
If Nokia were to enter the Android space, a top shelf ProView camera attached to high end specs and a lightly to non modified Android OS would make a big splash.
Honestly, I could see Nokia being the #2 Android manufacturer somewhere behind Samsung pretty darn quickly.
Good design, best cameras around, same hardware capabilities, good build quality, and still has a very strong brand appeal... would all give Nokia an edge over most other android manufacturers.

I think Nokia would be more likely to go back to MeeGo/Jolla Sailfish if WP8 failed, but I sincerely doubt it will. There's too much marketing and integration with Windows 8 for it not to do decently.
17. asseek (Posts: 164; Member since: 12 Sep 2012)
in my own opinion i think if wp8 fails, Nokia should work on MeeGo (by buying Jolla which is working on MeeGo OS) i like Android, am not totally against it, but i don't believe Nokia and Google can get along, and MeeGo OS, is the only OS that is capable to go against Android, only if it had some love from Nokia, but too bad they abandoned the OS before it was released...
21. pradeepkchauhan (Posts: 7; Member since: 08 Nov 2012)
I think Nokia should switch to Android otherwise after two years there will no name of nokia because Microsoft or any other company will purchase Nokia.
22. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
seriously can you stop whining about nokia going android, they shouldnt it wouldnt work right now move on.
25. pradeepkchauhan (Posts: 7; Member since: 08 Nov 2012)
My Dear Friend, I am telling a great truth about nokia's future.
Nokia should change it's production policy. Nokia should make many plateform mobile devices like Samsung did------
1. Windows Phones
2. Android Phones
3. Meego Phones
I am a great fan of Nokia since 9 years and I had bought over 42 mobiles in this time. My last nokia mobile was Nokia N8 but when I saw that there is no new nokia's innovative mobile so I purchase Galaxy note and now I hane Galaxy Note 2. But if nokia launches it's android phone then I will again switch to nokia.
26. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
no your giving your opinion not the truth, you can not think your opinion is fact and true
second last phone was the n8 because nokia had no new innovation after that..........so the 808 pureview was what? it was the biggest leap forward in mobile camera's yet you dont see that as innovation really
just because you want a nokia android doesnt mean they need to do it.its like me saying bugatti should make a pickup truck version of the veyron because if they did i would buy it......obviously i wouldn't but im just saying because you want it doesn't mean it needs to happen
if nokia focus on wp8, bring there innovations to it they will be fine, just as long as customers embrace it. id rather see nokia go meego and bring symbian back before android.........there are a sea of android phones to choose from i want more choice in OS's
all we have right now is apple and samsung, there the 2 main ones, others releasing android phones are picking up the scraps left by samsung....android =samsung right now
