Nokia Maps is probably one of the best mapping solutions out there and with its full offline capabilities it has one notable advantage over all competition…

I am an android user but truth said that nokia map is much better than google map in offline mode and this is based on experience as I used to own a nokia device and nokia map deliver excellent job when you don't have internet connection. How can he says apple map is better? Have he ever used a nokia map. Also don't you know that apple ceo apologies for its useless map and asked ios user to use google or nokia map. Do you even read news before you said apple map is better than nokia map. Again I am not a nokia fan but would love to use nokia map when I don't have internet connection. Now you know why we thumb him down.

Apple maps will work only in iCity ha ha haaaa
15. jlp34876 (Posts: 80; Member since: 02 Dec 2012)
you are probably dead in minutes if you use apple maps.
33. corduroy (Posts: 1; Member since: 20 Feb 2013)
You're right, you can download google maps offline. Oh, do you need to search for a POI? Ok, well, google maps doesn't download any of that data. Has google gotten offline navigation to work yet?
It's pretty sad that Google Maps on the Android is still on the old UI and can do less offline than my old Nokia N85. And this is coming from someone who now uses Android exclusively.

@ajac try Nokia Here on your iToy. Blows apple maps out of the water, on- or off-line. No flyover mode, I'll grant, but better overall.

When I think of Apple maps I always go to that commercial where the old couple almost drive off a cliff because the GPS was messed up!

My N8 has Nokia Maps and the offline service is very useful specially in places abroad where there are no connection.

sadly Nokia maps show only 1 road in some countries
69. Ohrules (Posts: 326; Member since: 11 Jun 2012)
true that. one only needs to look at nakia maps and google maps for lahore, pakistan to know the difference between them
6. alila2 (Posts: 126; Member since: 01 Nov 2011)
Nokia you're becoming more like Apple with your advertisement strategies , bad just bad.
7. tashreef (Posts: 476; Member since: 24 Nov 2012)
this is how it works ..it's not just Nokia... Samsung, HTC,Apple ,Google all are following the same procedures...

What's up dude?
Are you not feeling well? Why jab?
I hope Nokia has an answer to this childish behavior!
...and i expect something BIG at the MWC!

I'd rather use Google Maps at the moment mainly because they still haven't updated my city for years already (over 5 years). Not saying that Google Maps is any better, but at least the map is far more updated than Nokia's offering where a lot of the new roads and shopping centres are missing.
43. -box- (Posts: 3982; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
You can submit reports about that on their website, maps.nokia.com or here.com (I think)
11. andro. (Posts: 1990; Member since: 16 Sep 2011)
Must have been a funny meeting in Nokia HQ : "our sales are bad, nobody likes windows phones, what do we do?" When somebody at the back jokingly shouting "lets attack Google they really shouldn't have listened!

Engadget, Smartphone of 2012: lumia 920 with 43,7% of the votes. It really sucks when nobody likes windows phones...
27. andro. (Posts: 1990; Member since: 16 Sep 2011)
Hmm try making that statement to carriers desperate to try clear 100s of unsold wp stock each month. Let's not forget the Nokia lumia 800 was reduced to Just 140 euro on PAYG and the 610 as low as 79 euro on many carriers in a last desperate attempt to shift the backlogs. The 820 for instance is already proving a slow seller for us.
As for website 'votes' don't pay any notice to that especially ones which could involve Nokia fanboys as 95 % of the general public who come instore on a daily basis to buy a smartphone don't know or use such websites. And the vast majority of those 95% unfortunately for Nokia hate wp live tiles etc.
34. windroid (unregistered)
Just have to wait to the end of this quarter to see the results, until then... everything is speculation.
But one have to admit that WP visibility is now much higher than it was 6 months ago, and I think it's positive if more players enters the Smartphone market "war".
35. Leo_MC (Posts: 751; Member since: 02 Dec 2011)
Tell me a country that has 920s unsold.
Better yet, tell me a store that has as much 920s as it can sell.
39. andro. (Posts: 1990; Member since: 16 Sep 2011)
The 920 wasnt mentioned, its sold reasonable by Nokia's sales standards but in the vast over picture its not recommended to compare it to other top handsets for Nokia's sake. Its also a handset that had many symbian fans waiting for it,not upgrading from their c7 or n8's till it arrived. Its sales are high in Sweden and Finland admittingly but then their its home nations and a screen that works even with gloves has been a highly requested feature on a handset by populations used to minus temperatures for a large part the year. That saying if the 920 is the only handset that can be thought of to mention when talking about windows phones then it really shows you the status of windows phones sales in general that only one handsets can register to mind. I've seen the wp stock backlog on carriers and the drastic price cuts seen at Christmas show that networks simply had to make drastic measures to clear stock from last year and not carrier it into the next financial year

Andro, take for instance the the (big) Russian market whose data just came out:
Samsung’s bada (8%)
Nokia’s Asha (7.7%)
Apple’s IOS (6.9%)
Windows Phone (5.9%)
It there were more WP to deliver iOS would be bellow WP by now. 5.9% is not much but at this rhythm they'll soon be number 2.
40. faisal8708 (Posts: 104; Member since: 15 Nov 2011)
I didnt saw any attack they just showed a cool feature which they hav on their devices they were not degradin google maps or anything to tht effect so my question is r u really tht insecure?
12. papss (unregistered)
The two best maps are google and Nokia so who cares if they jab at each other.. This is normal business for all of them..
to the poster that said he would use apple maps before Nokia is absolutely ridiculous
14. jlp34876 (Posts: 80; Member since: 02 Dec 2012)
Dont hate nokia for making a competion on maps, competion is the one that pushes innovation in technology. At the end consumers will be the winner.
16. DerryAhmad (Posts: 260; Member since: 05 May 2012)
Nokia Maps and Drive+ is one of the reasons I bought the Lumia 920 (aside from the Pureview Camera).
The offline mode is very useful! Especially if you're traveling abroad and don't want to use the data roaming.
23. jsdechavez (Posts: 708; Member since: 20 Jul 2012)
Well, been using Nokia maps instead of good ol' Garmin for my previous research work. Works very well WITHOUT network coverage... Mountains, Islands..
17. iguano (Posts: 101; Member since: 10 May 2012)
Google don't want to give the people offline services because they sell adds, the want to spy what the people do all the time, sad but true
18. brar.arsh (Posts: 184; Member since: 12 Sep 2012)
Could Anyone please upload a Video comparing other features of Google Maps like Latitude, History, Traffic, Speed Cams etc??
That will blow away Apple/Nokia.. :D
19. jlp34876 (Posts: 80; Member since: 02 Dec 2012)
still the point of the comparison google dont support offline maps, which is useful for people who travels alot around the world.
22. jsdechavez (Posts: 708; Member since: 20 Jul 2012)
Nokia maps is also available initially and actually does very well in Symbian.. Well, it's dead anyway..
25. windroid (unregistered)
Used nokia maps in my symbian moments ago...
53. windroid (unregistered)
That's the absolute true... my fateful 5800 never let me down, used to go to a restaurant near the airport, and without any data connection searched for the restaurant, returned the directions and drove me there... just as simple.
29. DerryAhmad (Posts: 260; Member since: 05 May 2012)
Nokia Maps was one of my favorite apps on on my Nokia N95
55. asingha94 (Posts: 295; Member since: 08 Apr 2012)

28. SIGPRO (Posts: 917; Member since: 03 Oct 2012)

30. _Bone_ (Posts: 2150; Member since: 29 Oct 2012)
Nokia maps is atrocious in my area. Google KO Nokia.
31. Bumpingmobile (Posts: 10; Member since: 20 Feb 2013)
Ok, now try to activate/desactivate airplane mode in the Lumia as quick as in the SGS3
44. -box- (Posts: 3982; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
Takes about 2 seconds on my 900, though I have "Settings" pinned on my Start Page. Takes about 4 if it isn't (swipe to pull up app lost, hit letter to pull up alphabet, hit "S", hit "Settings", "Airplane Mode" is third option from top, tap to open, flick the switch, done). On some Androids you have to pull up settings and find it in the network settings so about 4-10 seconds, though most from 2.3 on you can pull down the notification bar, tap "quick settings", and enable/disable there, also takes about 2-4 seconds.
32. SIGPRO (Posts: 917; Member since: 03 Oct 2012)
True Nokia Maps is the best, everyone who denies it is a fool!
36. MartyK (Posts: 732; Member since: 11 Apr 2012)
Yeah, unfortunately no one company can take care of all your needs; with that being said,
you have to compare all the services, and no matter how much you dislike Google, you have to give them credit, when it comes to services and free, no company and I mean no company gives there consumers more free stuff then Google. Some may argue they sell your data/information/site you visit, my argument is who don't?.
46. -box- (Posts: 3982; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
Agreed, but Microsoft is pretty close. If they added a Sky Map to their lineup and their own social network (more enhanced than Live, that is), they'd offer all the services I use: mail, online document editing, storage, maps, etc.
37. MartyK (Posts: 732; Member since: 11 Apr 2012)
Overall, with everything consider, from maps to voice recognition to email services; Nokia, Apple, Microsoft, even BB can't touch Google..they might have a service here and there better then the Google, but overall when you compare all their services side by side, Google destroy them all.
P.A should do one with every services they all offer and compare so we can put some of you fans to bed. :)
