Nokia planning more Android phones after the X (Normandy), release tipped for May-June

0. phoneArena 12 Feb 2014, 05:21 posted on

A source from Artesyn Technologies tips that the Nokia X Android phone that will be announced at MWC is not the only green rabbit to come from the Finns' hat this year, and we can expect several other models, including higher-end ones. The source goes as far as saying that those will be revealed in the May-June timeframe, and will cover different price points. Now whether those will be on the same forked Android principle without Google's apps and Play Store, remains to be seen, but that's the more likely scenario...

Windows is the most prevalent OS in the world, so why do people keep saying that Nokia will die because of the Microsoft's acquisition? If you do not think that Microsoft has the time, the money, and or the means to help right the Windows Phone ship and bring Nokia back to prominence, you're sorrily mistaken. I am a religious Android user, and have no problem admitting this nor understanding it.

And exactly why should I buy a Nokia Android phone for about $150/EUR150 with such low end specifications when I can buy, say, a Moto X or Xperia M with much better specifications, more or less the same price and no need to put an alternate distro to have the ggogle apps?

The quality of Nokia in terms of hardware. Moto X and the Xperia M doesnt last even a day. Ashas on the other hand last 1-2 days on average use. Nokia is good on camera too. We all know that.

I guess you don't know Asha runs on 240x320 screens on less than 500mhz processors.

You want android to run for days? Make it an Asha phone by turning off location and sync services.

Oh wait, the Moto G can already do that since it is an awesome phone.

Nokia still has their Advanced Technology division, so catching up will be easy for them.

Furthermore, I'm quite certain Microsoft merely lease the patents, meaning it's not truly theirs. Nokia can always return to them by the time they're allowed to produce smartphones once more.

" what will be left with Nokia after the Microsoft acquisiton, will be the low-end Asha and feature phone department"
Isn't the entire phone, including the the Asha line being bought? Don't they have a stupid agreement, which prevents Nokia from entering the devices business till 2016, in place?

"value added, like the PureView cameras, HAAC mics and ClearBlack displays, will remain with the team from Redmond"
Aren't the rights to those still being held by Nokia and only the rights being only contracted off??

nokia can still use their patents as they're only licensing them to microsoft. and why the hell has anyone not concluded that the reason nokia can't offer google play is that they aren't part of the OHA? they keep on pulling for play services to be bundled but that would require jumping to OHA which would be far off for now.

MS is still not the patent holder, as far as i know. They'll be leasing/getting the rights to use, from Nokia.
